  1. Re-read what I wrote....its most active party members were the city politicians.

    Is not 1/2 the budget, its 1/2 of the 2% or "welfare" money.

    In the mid 1960s Local 274 reached a negotiated settlement with the City of White Plains regarding the distribution of the 2% monies. The funds were to be allocated on a per capita basis to "active" volunteers.

    To be classified as an active volunteer one was/is required to attend a certain number of training sessions per year. Not all the members of Local 274 were in favor of the settlement and felt the union should go for all the money.

    However the majority felt that "a bird in the hand was worth two in the bush" and the settlement was approved. Over the years the training requirement was largely ignored and not welll policed by the cityor the union. I don't know if any of the voluneer companies are classified

    as chartered benevolent organizations. The 2% law is quite clear on what the money can and cannot be used for. A chartered benevolent organization is very limited on it's use of 2% funds.

    Since 1975 or so chartered benevolent organizations have been required to keep records of how the 2% money is spent and are subject to audits by the New York State Comptrollers office.


  2. The 1936 Amercan Lafrance #7732 that ran as engine 62 from 1936 till 1957 has been found in Houston TX. I met with Ed in Port Chester on Thursday thanks to ex2391. Ed is the fire chief/safetymanager for Shell oil who has started a full restoration of this 400 series pumper that at one time pumped to the top of the Empire State Building in a test by Amercan Lafrance to show the the F.D.N.Y.how powerfull this rig was , they didn't buy it ! After we sold it to Boy Scout camp in Dover Plains it went into service after being sold again to the Dover Plains Fire dept. In 1957 we sold the la Lrance and in 1958 we sold the 1937 Seagrave ex engine 60 to Wassaic which they still have. If you look out there some of this trucks are still around. I have been looking for all the motorized rigs from Port Chester for over 37 years now and also recently found the 1928 NS-4 Ahrens Fox that ran till 1948 as engine 64. Three rigs I don't have to look to far as they are in my barn upstate and one Fox that is still on the Cape. If any one from Dover Plains FD. that can get photos or info will help with the documentation can PM me please.

    In his reply Ed. Hass refers to a William H. Odell of Scarsdale, NY. Bill Odell was a career Captain for the Greenville Fire District as well as a fire apparatus dealer. He sold the Fairview Fire District the 1953 Oren pumper and most likely sold the Elmsford FD their 1957 Oren. He did Elmsford their 1965 Oren/Chevrolet pumper.


  3. Partially pictured is 1 of 2 Seagrave engines in service at the time powered by the mighty V-12 motor, it had a 300 gallon booster tank, 1000 GPM pump.

    This rig was delivered from the factory in 1959 with an automatic transmission a rarity for the time. It was wrecked and sent back to the factory for repairs.

    While at the factory the automatic transmission was removed and replaced with a standard transmission..


  4. LETS FACE IT, THERE WILL ALWAYS BE ABUSES. SINCE THE ECONOMY HAS TANKED EVERYONE CONNECTED WITH GOVERNMENTAL OPERATIONS IS UNDER THE MICROSCOPE.

    I SEE THE SAME YONKERS DPW VEHICLE GOING NORTH ON THE TACONIC PARKWAY EVERY DAY AROUND 4PM, WHAT KIND OF SCAM DOES THIS GUY HAVE GOING ON?

    THE COMMISSIONER OF PUBLIC WORKS FOR THE TOWN OF NEW CASTLE HAS A TAKE HOME CAR, HE LIVES ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HUDSON. WHY MUST WE AS TAXPAYERS FUND HIS TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM WORK MONDAY THRU FRIDAY?

    I HAVE SEEN A SCARSDALE DPW VEHICLE PLOWING OUT A DRIVEWAY IN YORKTOWN AN OBVIOUS CASE OF FRAUD AGAINST THE SCARSDALE TAXPAYERS.

    I DON'T HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH A VOLLY FIRE CHIEF USING THE CHIEF'S CAR FOR PERSONAL BUSINESS AS LONG AS IT IS WITHIN REASON. AFTER ALL HE IS VOLUNTEERING HIS TIME AND IS OR SHOULD BE AVAILABLE TO RESPOND TO EMERGENCIES WHEN EVER HE IS IN THE CAR. MOST FIRE DISTRICTS HAVE RULES AND REGULATIONS REGARDING THE USE OF FIRE DEP'T VEHICLES.
