  1. If I was the IC, I would dispatch a second FAST TEAM to the scene and quickly make it a 3rd alarm because of the condition of the building. The 1st due Engine has to start doing truck work I.e. Forcible Entry, Laddering, Ventilation Search & Rescue. Because I Truck company is 10 Minutes out. My 2nd due engine will hit the hydrant and start laying down line to the building.

But Seth I would like to know how many personal you have on each piece of Apparatus responding to the scene

  2. Yonkers F.D. commish apologizes for fiery comment

(10/05/07) YONKERS - Yonkers Fire Commissioner Tony Pagano is apologizing for some fiery comments he made in front of new recruits, including the first female firefighter in the department’s history.

While speaking to a class of newly hired firefighters, Pagano admits he used a common term for the male anatomy when talking about the courage it takes to do the job. Some people agree that Pagano's comment was inappropriate because he leads a department of 400 firefighters, which now includes one woman.

After five years of trying to get hired, Lianne Navedo finally joined Yonkers’ bravest in September. However, it took a court order to end the 100-year tradition of the Yonkers Fire Department being all male.

Navedo accepted the commissioner's apology and just wants to put the whole matter behind her. Pagano confirms there is a complaint on file with the Yonkers Human Resources Department, which is investigating. The commissioner says he will accept whatever the consequences might be.

This is how come news 12 have that poll

  3. NYPD: Student Gunman Bought Rifle At Retail Store

    POSTED: 1:31 pm EDT September 27, 2007

    UPDATED: 5:50 pm EDT September 27, 2007

NEW YORK -- At a press conference Thursday, NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly revealed that the St. John's freshman arrested with a rifle Wednesday bought the firearm for $170 at an area retail store. Kelly also lauded the campus' response to a potentially deadly situation.

Law enforcement sources said they believe the rifle was purchased at Dick's Sporting Goods in Poughkeepsie. When WNBC.com contacted the store to ask if they sold the weapon, a worker there said "no comment" and hung up the phone.

The remarkable events came to a "successful, peaceful close,” said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. " [The] university's response serves as a national model. [it was the] best possible outcome - no one was injured and the response by the police and university was flawless,” Kelly added.

A hero NYPD cadet, Christopher Benson, was given a citation and plaque in congratulations for his efforts in helping stop Omesh Hiraman, 22, who was arrested Wednesday on St. John's campus.

Kelly said the investigation of the incident is ongoing. A warrant was issued for the seizure of Hiraman’s computer, Kelly added.

Kelly said Hiraman bought the rifle last week.

"We are not in a position to identify a motive at this time,” Kelly said. “There is nothing to indicate he had any problem with another student or anything like that."

Kelly said Hiraman flagged down a livery cab that took him to gate five at St. John’s Wednesday.

He was scheduled to attend a business law class at 2:30 p.m., Kelly said.

  4. Eastchester cruiser slams into utility pole while avoiding car

    THE JOURNAL NEWS

    (Original publication: September 27, 2007)

EASTCHESTER - A town police officer crashed his cruiser into a utility pole on White Plains Road trying to avoid a turning car last night, police said.

A southbound vehicle making a left turn across two lanes of northbound traffic at Water Street may not have seen the cruiser in the far curb lane, Eastchester police Detective Sgt. Matthew Kiernan said.

Cars stopped in the northbound left-turn lane may have blocked the 21-year-old New Jersey woman's view, he said.

Swerving to avoid the woman's car at 7:45 p.m., Officer William Bareika struck and splintered a utility pole, Kiernan said, and bounced off into the turning car.

Bareika, 37, injured his hand and was treated and released from White Plains Hospital Center, said Kiernan. The cruiser's hood buckled and the front grill fell off.

The woman's Saturn had a broken front light and she was uninjured.

The accident loosened wires on the damaged utility pole, but power was not lost.

Bareika, 37, a 15-year veteran on the force was going with the green light at a "normal" speed at the time of the accident, Kiernan said. He was on patrol, not responding to a call.

Lindsey Reinert, 21, of Greenwood, N.J., was ticketed for failing to give the right of way to oncoming traffic, a violation, Kiernan said.
