  4. One of the pros of a Fire District is being able to levy taxes. The Board of Fire Commissioners set their own budget and the amount levied by taxes without having to have it be approved through anyone else. One reason this is is because in a Fire District the board is elected by the public and considered its own entity. A Fire Protection District does not levy taxes but gets its money through an approved contract between the municipality and the Fire Department.

  5. EMTBravo currently works quite well on my iPhone 3G.

I have recently (the past 3 weeks) have had problems on my iTouch. When I go to the .net homepage it shows me everything except the recent topics. Everything else shows up fine and works well. I don't know what the problem is, but I think an app like the facebook app would be good. A simple app with such things as recent topics, incident alert live, recent incident alerts, recent photos, a profile section, a search section to search posts and topics that might not be shown, and a way to add your own sections that you want to see (like Upstate NY or Apparatus Photos) so that you can quickly visit the sections that you frequently visit.

  6. Also, OSHA only requires you to have bourkes eye shield while NFPA requires more of a full face shield. I thought that this was the only main difference between the requirements, I was not aware of the two inner shells. Before you purchase anything, make sure your department will accept it. If the helmet you purchase meets of exceeds the departments requirements they have to accept it. However, if it does not meet your department requirements, the department does not have to accept them.

Meeting the NFPA requirements for eye protection will make it safer for you, but not having it is not a death sentence. FDNY uses bourkes eye shields on their helmets.

  8. We have one mini-pumper with an enclosed pump panel. The main problem we have had is that we wanted to put a ball valve on the five inch intake on the drivers side (the only one on that side). We couldn't do this however because the door was in the way. And since there is compartment space on top of the pump, leaving it open was not an option.

Description Of Incident: 4th alarm residential structure fire

    Reporters/Writer: Patch6713

KINGSTON — A fire Tuesday morning destroyed a two-family home on Pine Grove Avenue and displaced seven people, emergency responders said.

City Fire Chief Richard Salzmann said none of the residents was injured, though one firefighter hurt his arm when he slipped on ice as he tried to step down from a ladder.

The chief said the house was “a total loss.”

Salzmann said the fire was ruled accidental, apparently the result of a problem with a natural gas stove.

  10. Wow. That's expensive. State of CT is $60 for a "four year" Class B license. My license was issued 8-1-09 and expires 8-11-12. So unless my math is wrong, the first year was only 11 days long.

You also have to remember that NYS license is good for 8 years. And NYS is broke and looking for money.

  11. Wow...really? Was there a past injury or something that made the department look to avoid the roof?

Do you guys have an aerial?

We do now have an aerial that we use.

As for previous injuries, I believe that awhile back a person (or persons) have fallen off of the roof. We will go on the roof if there is a reason for it we just don't do it just to do it. It works very well for us.

Also to add to our procedure, we always check with the TIC for any extinsion.

  12. 1) We empty the fireplace or woodstove.

    2) We spray a dry chem extinguisher up the chimney until it comes out of the top of the chimney and there is no more fire present.

    3) If step 2 didn't work, we have chains that we will use. It is part of our policy to avoid unnecessarily going on the roof.
