  2. In looking at aerial photos, there seems to be a red tractor trailer parked in what appears to be the Ops/Maintenance area on the north side of the airport. Could this be a water supply tanker?

I do not believe they own a tanker. Do you have a link to the photo? Thanks to Westchester County, some places are blurred in goolge maps, HPN being one.

  3. I think Port Chester, Rye Brook, and Armonk. Maybe Harrison or Purchase too?

Port Chester, Rye Brook, Purchase and Armonk are called to the scene to any major emergency. I also think Greenwich, because they have been to a few drills at HPN. If needed, I believe, West Harrision, Harrison, North White Plains, Valhalla and Banksville go stand-by. Purchase FD covers all minor calls. HEMS and PCRRB*EMS both cover medical calls.

  4. They are private employes for the company that has a long term contract to run the airport. At one pont it use to be Pam Am then it was Johnson Controls I don't know who has it now but they have/had a local? that was/is in the Fifth district.

I believe it is AvPORTS. There is a link to their website on the Airport home web page. AvPORTS

  5. cross trained by who? to what level? are they county employees? is it like the fire brigade for west county? never gave it any thought before now you have my interest, any help

The only county employes at the airport, I believe, are the county police officers, and maybe the airport manager. The airport is managed by a private company.

  6. I was recently at the Westchester County Airport, and took some pictures of the ARFF truck, passing the terminal. The weather was not good in the beginging, but i did my best.

This, I believe is an Operations Truck but, it has red lights, so it may be used in emergency operations.

  7. I thought this was one of the funniest thing i ever saw.

Today's epic airline prank is brought to you by The Manhattan Airport Foundation, which wants to bulldoze Central Park and put up an airport in its place. Yes, you must be thinking that this is a joke, and yes, you're right.

Beyond the sheer implausibility of razing Central Park to make way for an airport, let's look at the details. Their address is "233 Broadway, 58th Floor," which is in the Woolworth Building. But the building, which was completed in 1913, only has 57 floors. Perhaps the 'Foundation' has open-air offices on the building's rather angular roof. They've also secured financial backing from the "Waalwijk Charitable Trust" and the 'Tokyo-based holding company' Yamanote Ltd. Problem is, neither entity actually exists. However, that's not preventing the Foundation from accepting a thousand dollars in return for naming rights to a bench. You could throw in some cash, but you'd end up feeling more burned than a JetAmerica investor.

The Foundation claims that it exists to promote "the immediate development of a viable and centrally-located international air transportation hub in New York City for the benefit of all New Yorkers," claiming that "Central Park squanders 843 acres of the most valuable real estate in the world." It touts Central Park's location as a more convenient alternative to JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark, and even claims that "Environmentalists Rally In Support Of Manhattan Airport."

  8. This is not a new car. It's for the the Auxiliary Police, as is the car next to it. And they are also earlier model Crown Vics.

I did not see that, thanks. However the patrol cars have this paint too. I will try to get a picture sometime soon.

  10. Interensting. Whats next?

NEW YORK -- A runway at John F. Kennedy International Airport was shut down briefly Wednesday morning after at least 78 turtles emerged from a nearby bay and crawled onto the tarmac.

Grounds crews eventually rounded up the wayward reptiles and deposited them back in the brackish water farther from airport property, but not before the incident disrupted JFK's flight schedule and contributed to delays that reached nearly 1 1/2 hours.

"Apparently, this is something the tower has experienced before," said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Jim Peters. "I guess it's the season for spawning."

  11. Intresting. Here is the NYT article..

As the authorities closed in on a group of men they suspected of plotting to bomb two synagogues in the Bronx, they wanted to make sure all avenues of escape were blocked off.

A helicopter flew overhead and a swarm of officers from several law enforcement agencies stood ready. But the Police Department also rolled something a little different onto the scene on May 20: two 18-wheel tractor-trailers.

But big rigs? It does not happen frequently, but there are times, the police say, when a tractor-trailer is right for the job. And when such a tool is needed, the police turn to the elite Emergency Service Unit.
