  1. I've never been so upset listening to the scanner, as I was tonight. Croton Falls fd was dispatched to a report of a piaa involving a motorcycle on fire and into a telephone pole. The first chief on scene reported multiple victims and requested a launch for stat flight. During the opps of the accident/ set up for a landing zone there was a person on 46.26 almost critiquing the entire incident and all of the decissions that the ic was making. Whatever the person was doing on the radio was uncalled for and was WRONG. What if while this JACK--- was talking on the radio there was an important radio transmission that had to be heard by either on scene personell or 60 control.

Somehow this person had a radio of somesort and was able to speak on 46.26, Does that mean that he is a fellow firefighter and just sitting around talking crap. DO ME, THE OTHER OFFICERS AND FIRE DEPT MEMBERS IN THE COUNTY A FAVOR AND STAY OFF THE RADIO DURING AN INCIDENT. There are plenty of other ways to speak your mind without interfering with a serious accident where fellow brothers are trying to help someone live. BY THE WAY IT"S JUST MY TWO CENTS!!!!!

  2. As an officer in the engine co responding to a structure fire, auto alarm or anything involving a building I have the driver of the engine usually pass the building and set up just beyond it. Just like other officers (hopefully) not only do I think of the placement of the rig that I'm in, but the rigs that will be coming in behind me. I have the driver leave plenty of room for the other responding apparatus. The reason that I have the driver of the first due engine pull past the building is SIZE UP of the structure. At least when the rig passes I can see the majority of the building and get a feel for what is going on, as well as what the building is like (ie. size, type, amount of building involved, egress ect....). Then when the ladder comes in they can position themselves acordingly. And if it's a long haul (beyond the 200' of attack line) we have about 400 to 50

0 feet of three in hose with a gate on the end of it to connect any apt pack onto.

  3. While watching tv tonight there was a commercial on discovery about a show called "Firehouse USA (BOSTON)". I believe it is going to air next Tuesday on discovery. If I get the chance I will check the discovery web site for more info. It looked cool with actual footage of on scene fire calls, I guess we will see what comes of it............ [-o<

and I'm sure you all know who I'm refering to......

  5. yes we did, right before the mobil station. One ran out in front of the rig and the driver was able to slow down enough for him to pass in front of us. But then his cousin decided to come out of the woods as well. There was no way of avoiding him without wrecking a expensive rig. We ddin't even run him over he ran directly into the passenger front tire and bounced off the side of the rig. The only one that was hurt in the ordeal was the deer.

  6. I believe there were 4 towers there bedford hillls and ridgefield in the front and two in the rear one of which was dambury and I believe the other was bridgeport? I'm not really sure about the last one was, but all of them were operating. The Building wasn't that huge but it was a good size, I would give the demensions if I could have see it..... From the time I got there in 57 to the end there was so much smoke blowing around you could barley see. In the process of setting the ladder up and getting water the main part of the building collapsed. there were multiple hanlines on the street and all the ladders had master streams operating.

Just wanted to mention that the companys on scene did an awsome job protecting the exposures. Both the bank on one side and the building on the other side were still standing with little damage. Most likely the only damage was smoke and maybe a little water.

  7. NOTHING LIKE A COWARD WHO REREGISTERS WITH A DIFFERENT NAME SO NO ONE KNOWS WHO HE IS........... SOUNDS LIKE YOU SHOULD PACK YOUR BAGS AND LEAVE SO WE DON'T HAVE TO CONTINUE LISTENING TO YOUR BS..... GO CRY TO SOMEONE WOH ACTUALLY GIVES A S---T ABOUT YOUR OPINION

  8. I don't understand what you mean by "too flashy." It's got the same basic stripe that all of our apparatus has with the execption of having the car numbers on them. The lights are really nothing special and nothing that anyone else doesn't already have. The interior is the same as any other chiefs car in the area. As far as us trying to say that we are better then anyone else, I don't know where u get that from. Why???????

I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHERE YOUR COMING FROM :-k

  9. Our mini attack before the one we have now (not sure the make or year) is actually a drilling truck of some sort. I'm not sure what they drill for but when I first joined there was talk that it was on a job site in Bedford Village. So a buddy and I went and found it, I'll try to dig up some photos if I can find them. I wasn't sure if you had meant the 1989 saulsbury or the one before it.

  10. heyIwas unsure of the answer so I figured that I would ask around and see if anybody could answer it. Since I am the person in charge of the fast team training in my department I was wondering if the new fire building (with the propane) can be used without hand lines.

I want to have a fast training with search and rescue but I don't want the team to have to do fire surpression as well just the search and rescue. But I"m unsure of the rules that the county have set up while using the burn building. It's not to often that you get to do a fast training and have heat in the room while conducting a search.

So if anybody has any info just post it for me, and thank you in advance for the help.......

LONDON (AP) -- Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne had to flee their English country mansion last week after a fire broke out in the living room, a British newspaper reported Thursday.

The couple were alerted by a fire alarm and ran into their backyard when the blaze broke out late Friday at their house in Buckinghamshire county, northwest of London, the Sun tabloid said.

A spokeswoman for Buckinghamshire Fire Service confirmed that two fire engines had been sent to a blaze at a house in the area. Two men and a woman were treated for minor smoke inhalation, she said.

Fire officials were investigating the cause of the blaze.

The fire was the latest in a series of domestic mishaps to befall the former Black Sabbath frontman and his manager-wife, who is a judge on the TV talent show ''The X Factor.''

Last November, Ozzy Osbourne unsuccessfully tackled a thief as he raided the house and stole a large amount of jewelry. And in December 2003, Osbourne was in a coma for eight days after breaking his collarbone, several ribs and a neck vertebra in a quadbike accident on the grounds of the home.

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- The state will review the actions of firefighters who checked out a house and found nothing wrong hours before a fatal fire killed four children.

Teaneck officials invited the state inquiry Thursday, two days after a raging fire swept through the house, killing the siblings and critically injuring their mother. Two other siblings survived.

Fire officials blamed an overloaded electrical circuit for the fire.

Hours before the blaze broke out, the fire department had been called to the home to check out a smell of smoke. A dozen firefighters from four companies spent about 30 minutes at the house, The Record of Bergen County reported for Friday, but could find nothing wrong.

The state Division of Fire Safety will review firefighters' initial response to the home and will audit the department's policies and procedures to ''make sure this type of incident never happens again,'' said Susan Bass Levin, commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs.

Teaneck police began the investigation, but township officials asked for an independent review to avoid any potential conflict of interest.

''We want the events that transpired to be looked at in a way that, whatever the conclusion is, it will have deep credibility,'' township Manager Helen Fall told The Record.

The fire erupted at 1:45 a.m. -- five hours after firefighters had checked out and cleared the house -- killing Ari Seidenfeld, 15; his brothers, Noah, 6, and Natan, 4; and a 5-year-old sister, Adira. Their mother, Philyss Seidenfeld, and two siblings Aviva, 7, and Zahava, 12, were injured along with a nanny, Betty Mbaza.

Funerals for the children were held Wednesday, while their mother remained hospitalized in critical condition.

''We are not afraid of any investigation,'' said Mayor Jacqueline Kates, ''because the feeling is that everything that could be done was done. But if the investigation shows that there are some procedures that need to be changed, we need to be aware of that.''

The origin of the fire has been traced to a basement freezer on an overloaded circuit, which caused the appliance's motor to burn out. Deputy Chief Frank Florio has said the condition was not readily apparent during Monday night's inspection.

One question the review could answer is whether firefighters should have used a thermal-imaging camera on their first call to the house. The cameras seek out hot spots that can't be seen.

Acting Fire Chief John Bauer has said the cameras wouldn't have picked up the circuit overload that caused the blaze.

  13. Alright so here I go, I wiill reply to my own post. Of course I'm going to say that the chiefs cars in the hills are best suited for what we need. I like the way the way all three of them are set up. I can actually remember back when I was a kid and my father was an asst. chief, the department only had one chiefs car. It was used from the Bedford pd and was (if I am correct) the old dog catchers car. But enough of that back to the thread I like the traditional red car with white strip. But I would be curious to see a chiefs car with the white over red just like our rigs. (if somebody knows where to look let me know)

The Suburban is a great chies car but I think that we could get away with having a tahoe insted. Now the F 350's that we have are great to an extent. They have many useses but lack one thing. It it by far a hard task to set up command with them. With the burban you can use the rear of it but with the truck you are limited to the cab of the truck. Unless there was a cap on the rear, then you lose the full use of the bed. But just like anything else it all works out in the end. By the way the command boards are a must fot a chiefs car. They work very well and help tremendously, as I learned at the train accident.

If you know me then you know that I am a fan of light shows. But sometimes too many kills the effect and the look of the car. There is nothing better then having a decent light show whith enough warning power for people to see, and for it to look good.

So there it is I'll probablly reply later with more but my fingers are tired of typing.... :D

  14. I figured that I had not seen a thread on chiefs cars that I would start one.

Just wanted to know what everybody thought of chiefs cars? As far as what make and model is best suited for the job, how you would set one up. Which is your favorite around, color, lights :blahblah: I could go on forever just write about anything.
