  1. Amen
  2. I totally forgot to mention about 10-15 minutes after we got let go I was heading towards the hospital in SI when I told my friend who was driving to stop and flag a passing NYPD RMP I told em I was an EMS MOS hurt and they didn't even think twice they flipped up the lights and escorted us straight to the doors of hospital 62 SI university north ER and 3 and half hours later when I was all casted up we took a quick ride over to 7 11 on New Dorp and saw the exact same RMP sitting in the lot we walked over to them ( I hopped with a crutch) and told em what happened in NJ, (my friend is a DSNY worker and he was actually cuffed and put in the back of RMP in jersey because he was begging the female newark cop to let us go and to understand that i was hurt, i dont know what im saying, etc so because she told him 3 times to shut the car off they dragged him out and cuffed him) so we gave the two officers who helped us a brief run down of what happened and they were shocked that Newark PD took it that far. Basically we learned the hard way that having a city job and being outside of NYC ( and apparently being injured) doesn't mean s*** especially in nj.
  3. well no not really step 1 is passing the physical which I did step 2 is meet with the investigator and fill out the packet they hand you at the physical test which requires a SS earnings statement notorized statements regarding whatever happened in your past accident reports pretty much anything and everything about you it wasn't even an interview he just took it from me went over it and saw what I was missing gave me a check list and told me to bring it back to him. To get to step 3 the psych test, the investigator turns over all his work to his supervisor/boss who makes the final decision on whether or not I'll be hired/accepted for the academy (so it's actually someone I never even met who makes the final call) then after the psych test is step 4 a full check up/medical evaluation this is the whole process from what I gathered by asking around.
  4. where on route 9 and what time of dsy
  5. If I'm not mistaken on the EMS side of FDNY there's only one interview with the investigator (which I did and handed him all the necessary paperwork on the incident that occured) there's only a psychological test no interview with a psyschologist (I could be totally wrong) and then after that a full head to toe medical evaluation.
  6. Thanks for the good advice it'll definitely be duly noted
  7. 150$ front and center metallica ticket you'd have to drag me out in a body bag to get me to leave plus i was with a friend and we were separated when the injury occured so he would have been stuck looking for me (he had his phone in the car) plus I'm not familiar with jersey hospital systems etc so all those reasons combined made me feel it would be better to wait until the shows over and hit up a hospital in staten island on the way home... Most painful 2 and a half hours ever making me wonder several times during the concert if the band is really worth the pain just to see them.
  8. I never said it was not my fault and passing the blame etc yea I was fired for not showing up for a day of work but the reason behind is not because I decided to take a day off and go to the beach I had a family emergency that night and had no method of alerting the owner of the pharmacy that I will be unable to come one so there was (i felt ) a good enough reason to not show up ( I did call out early that morning but apparently not good enough) Yea I cursed out a cop for stopping my car while I was trying to get to the hospital with an ankle that was broken for 2+ hours was I wrong sure I was did she overact, absolutely especially since she called for an 10-85 or whatever newark cops use and my car was surrounded by RMP's and then when I identified myself as an EMS her exact words "Shut the *^%& up you're gonna sit there and suffer" (real professional) and then threatened I was gonna be arrested and giving me the summons was letting me off easy. Every NYPD officer I ask whether I know them or total strangers say that was overkill and a slap on the wrist/verbal warning would have been enough but thats the difference between NYPD and cops elsewhere NY police officers actually do work and bust their a** and know the difference between bs and the real deal. So I'm not portraying the victim here but I'm also trying to ration that it was just a series of unfortunate circumstances that I got involved in, but I learned valuable lessons from them which is what life is about and I feel that these petty situations/circumstances shouldn't be the judge of my character and prohibit from obtaining a decent to good job like working for FDNY
  9. I guess you must be one of the people that sees things in only black and white
  10. I got pinched at one job for something stupid which wasn't my fault in Sept 08 I was working in a small private pharmacy I had a family emergency one night and wasn't able to show up for work the next day and i had no way of contacting the owner so i called out in the morning as soon as the store opened. The next time I showed up for work I was fired in a not so nice way. The nj summons I was coming out of a concert in Feb 09 where I just broke my ankle and me any my friend were driving away in my car when we were stopped by a traffic cop or whatever she was, I assumed she worked for the arena and was just directing traffic I just wanted to get to a hospital after sitting with a messedup ankle for 2 hours and just yelled and cursed at her she flipped out and a chaos ensued which ended up with me getting the summons 20 min later. So I wrote all this into different statements with more details had them notorized and handed em in hopefully theyll see past the black and white parts and just see the grey area in this
  11. Great so now all I have to get past is having the investigators supervisor (who makes the final decision for recruiting)to accept me for the position. Any reason why he/she wouldn't? ( In a nutshell I got fired from only 1 job , i was in two auto accidents, and had a slight altercation w/ newark nj police last year after a metallica concert which landed me a disordely summons . I was told to have statements explaining the circumstances behind each incident along with accident reports court dispositions etc and have them all notoroized and hand them in.) Anything stated there that could potentially disqualify me or make the recruiter not accept me for any position?
  12. I was just watching a movie and it showed an Access Ambulance in the middle of manhattan. I googled and looked into them a lil and found they are located in stamford CT does anyone have any knowledge about this company. Good opinions, bad opinions, do they have 911 contracts or are they just transport etc. Thanks for any and all responses
  13. I took the physical and met with the investigator he did all the paper work and said the psych test is in may probably and the ALS academy for incoming outside medics tentative in july ( which according to the investigator only comes once a year usually around the summer they run 1-2 medic basic classes a year and a handful of internal upgrades for EMTs that got their medic outside the dept) depending on budget needs of the dept etc. So, so far I haven't received any letters about the psych test who knows what could be happening there might be an academy and i might not be picked to be in it for whatever reason, there might be no academy due to budget whatever the case I need to have some sort of job to keep me busy.
  14. I'm a brand new medic well since august. I live in nyc and the situation is rough down here our hospitals are deadlocked you either have to know someone or get lucky most want a ton of experience and so many medics take up per diem spots for 3-4 hospitals which takes it away from the new guys and if you are lucky enough to land a spot with a hospital which I was lucky enough to do (Brookdale in brooklyn) 99% itll be per diem work. The FDNY is sort of in a mess with the city budget so I could be waiting for a while before I get called. Transcare has several contracts with hospitals providing them with employees and ambulances and putting them into the city 911 system with the employees wearing all hospital markings patches id etc but paid from TC. I kinda went down that route and it didn't quite work out well mostly because TC sucks and there reputation is known to many. There's always the option to working the handful of privates in the 5 boroughs but I'd rather sit at home and do nothing then be a paramedic and drive grandma to dialysis every other day as most privates in the city don't do a lot of ALS transports they are far and few between so the medics get stuck doing the BLS transports on top of who's buddies with or sleeping with the dispatchers and if its not you then you're screwed. I've expanded my horizon to agencies "upstate" and elsewhere ie AMR in CT MLSS and HV/Regional in Orange/Dutchess Empress in yonkers, mostly looking for a good mix of transport vs 911 as opposed to nyc privates that (exception of TC hospital contracts) do stictly non emergency transport. I just started training with MLSS and will being training with HV/Regional in a few days and my CT reciprocity is pending. Hopefully I'll be able to sort out a decent schedule but I'm still doing my Homework and asking around about various agencies and trying to get the best info there is on them. My only grievance with MLSS HVP and AMR in CT is that they are roughly 80 something miles from my house. Empress would be the best choice in terms of distance because its the closest agency by NYC but theyre on a hiring freeze as I asked in another topic I posted. I actually passed an oppurtunity to work for them in Oct which was when they had there last orientation I was asked to come in for an interview which I did and then enter the orientation but my response was that I wanted to give my current employer (TC) a lil more notice that I was leaving (Empress required me to quite them) and not to burn my bridges make a long story short I parted ways from TC for other reasons and then Empress turns around and says they're not hiring and since then I've been checking in every so often but still nothing.
  15. So no 911 at all?
  16. I heard from a few people that HV medics have 911 services in middletown & florida in orange county through mutual aid and pleasant valley through a contract that once was transcares can anyone confirm or clarify this
  17. When you say private contracts what are you referring to.
  18. What does 56-79 mean?
  19. Now those places in orange county are they contracted like the pleasant valley contract where they are the primary response and have to provide coverage etc?
  20. I checked they don't have an employment opportunities section just an online application to fill out which I did.
  21. Ok I'm sure this has been talked about before and I apologize if it stirs peoples emotions but I'm looking to work upstate I'm currently a NYC Paramedic so I was taking interest in companies in westchester and hudson valley. The two westchester companies I know of are which I also filled out applications are EMPRESS (which from what they said have been on a hiring freeze since october) and Westchester EMS In Hudson Valley I put applications in Mobile Life Support, Northern Dutchess Paramedics, Hudson Valley Paramedics/Regional EMS and Rockland County Paramedics So I know there a lot of people here with several years if not more of experience in some of these companies so if anyone has any insight, opinions, stories, etc whether bad or good do share. Take into consideration I'm looking to do mostly 911 work I don't mind some transport. PS negative opinions are fine as long as they have substance not just oh that company sucks instead of I don't like them because of x y and z
