  1. Let me try this again ! In my opinion, every fire dept, especially where there are water supply problems, the Fire Dept. should have class A foam. You use less water and you have a quicker knock down time on the fire.

The County should hold classes on Class A Foam at the training center to educate the people in the fire service who make the decisions for their Dept if foam should be used or not. I'm not talking CAFS, just add Class A foam (small amount 0.3% to 0.5%)to your hose lines and you would see a big difference in your firefighting abilities. I can't believe no one is even talking about foam, there are extreme water problems in this area. I think the reason people don't want to talk about Foam is because not many people understand the benefits and the ease in which it is used, and that's a Dam shame!

  2. Does anyone know how many gallons of water comes from a well per minute ? If this is the secomd time this house burned down maybe they could have put in a residential sprinkler after the first time it caught fire. You only need a little water in the beginning stages of a fire to knock it down.

Also does anyone know if South Salem FD has class A foam. In my opinion, every fire dept especially where there are water supply problems, the FD should have class A foam. You use less water and you have a quicker knock down time of the fire.

  3. Thats a pretty bold statement. I dare say that anyone that doesn't flow foam more than a couple of times a year is doing their community a disservice if they waste the money on an injection system and foam cell. They need to be used or else the maintenance becomes a serious problem. A 5 gallon pail, eductor, and a half dozen foam cans is just as effective and more versatile. Chicago is a big adaptor of CAFS and last I saw they were till using lots of water for their high rise operations.

Class A Foam should be used everytime you flow water for a structure fire, car fire or if possible brush fires (all class A fires) and training. Then you would be using it more often. It's true, you need to be trained on how it works. Just like any other tool we use. I do not see what the big deal is. Go out and test it and see for yourself!

  4. Someone at the County Level, needs to get in touch with Foam pro or another company and have them conduct a demostration at the training center. Pack a car, truck or bus with wood pallets light it and put it out with water, then do it again with foam. The differnce in knock down time and the amount of water use is dramatic. It's apparent the only way people will believe it is, they have to see it with their own eyes. You do not need CAFS, just add class A foam to your hose lines and you would see a big differnce. Again Every department should have Class A foam, especially in Northern Westchester where water supply is a big problem.

  5. Every Department should have class A foam on board to use on all structure fires , especially if you have water supply issues (Northern Westchester). If you use foam you will use alot less water. It's hard to change the way we think and do things in the fire service because we've always used water. If departments took the time to look into it and practice with foam. I think it would open alot of eyes.

  6. What if a call came in, how can you explain the delay in the chief responding

to John Q Public.  Pranks should NEVER involve members equipment or front-line

apparatus. The nature was meant to be harmless but the act was dumb and unprofessional!

    AGREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:o

  7.

Eeek! Being that it is quite hard for me to shut my mouth or stop typing sometimes....

Up the homework, and take us to Aruba with you! :D Just don't up the homework of my classmates or I am not going to make it back from the road run!!! I'll even do a paper!!

    - Probie 1-3

I wish I had kept a blog of my experiences starting with Day 1 so I could have elaborated more on my highs...and lows during class and during a time where I am lNow, for all those who think I may be brown nosing, I really could care less. I really don't hold back with my feelings. I am passionate about anything I believe in, whether it be myself, LAFD, jetBlue, etc....many of you who know me know this well. Therefore, I love my class, I love the fellow probies that I am experiencing this class with, and I love my instructors....who I hope to be half as good as they are at some point. So, me saying these things shouldn't be percieved as sucking up, just me saying how I feel about everything.:blink::blink:

    W..OW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. I would have to go with Mohegan for most calls, with Somers and Port Chester right behind. Fire wise probably Mohegan or Port Chester as well.

Is'nt Mohegan and Portchester combination dept's ? I thought they were only talking about Vol only dept's

  9. Ardsley is out of logical options for a temporary firehouse.

Here's an Idea. How about building the new firehouse where the parking lot is now and when completed, tear down the old building and build a new parking lot.

it's done all the time. even the NY Yankees are going to do it that way.

    What do you think ?

Question: "how many alarms does Ardsley have a year" ?

  10. Im very frustrated with the FEMA/state EOC "system". My service has ready members of our special operations team. We are self sustaining for at least 48 hours and we can bring our unique capabilities to use in the Katrina Area of Operations. But we are sitting here!!! Does any one know how we can get requested with out having to  go down and free lance...which we would not do any way. Im very ill at seeing our fellow brothers and sisters overwhelmed. Can any one suggest things for me to try?

    SOMEDIC

What service do you and your members provide ? and how did you get dispatched to leave Wednesday ?

  11. Can you tell me you have never taken a sick day which makes "you're real job take a hit, less guys working" so that you could work on the side, play golf, or do something with the family? Don't roll your eyes at what I decide to do on my off duty time.

YES TSull I can tell you I never called in sick to play golf or do something with my family. I never called in sick for any reason in 16 yrs on the job. I don't know where you worked but I am sure glad it wasn't in my dept.

  12. quote TSCULL

I was a career FF in one town who was burned at a fire in my vollie dept. in my hometown. I was covered by my hometown's worker's comp. plan and I went non line of duty medical leave from my career FF job just as if I had gotten the flu or broke my leg skiing.

So whats your point ? Volunteer insurance fund will pay you almost nothing and your real job takes a hit. less guys working while you recuperate.

  13. Umm, no they shouldn't They'd be redundant and waste airtime

Well , it appears to be a problem for some people, and I only made a sugestion

on how to solve the problem, I don't think it would be redundent and a waste of air time. Not everybody is a BUFF and knows every dept. number and if you have to keep saying repeat message or unit identify that's the waste of time.

  14. There is also occasionally confusion when someone calls 60 control using just "60", for us members of engine 60.  It moreoften happens when we radio engine 60 to 60 control they sometimes need to ask to repeat the id.

People should identify their dept. name before their numbers, ie.. Hawthorne 2191 to 6o control, Valhalla 2481, Ardsley engine 165 to who ever . This way it will cut down on any confusion. But to many people take short cuts and try to sound cute.
