  1. Let me get this straight. The chief gets there first, knows that someone is inside and doesn't do anything?
  2. Wrong, the more morons we get trying to prove they can beat the other company in the less morons we will have. As a retired police officer you have no experience with it. They never get rid of cops, they just usually think one is enough.
  3. You can not compare a study that is done outside of your jurisdiction. Tx times to hospital and response times as well as time down all have a huge factor as well as the persons overall health. Having someone who works in a medical icu in a Trauma center the consensus is CPR generally doesn't help anyone unless it is a witnessed arrest. Usually they just waste away at the hospital as they have had such a long period of time with out o2 that they are a vegetable.
  4. Thats an excellent attitude. Now ask him how many Engine company's they had when he worked there and how many they have now? Keep trying to beat the other company in, morons.
  5. Bring your wallet if you want things. And knock with your elbows.
  6. No one in NYC trades patches, we just don't care/cant afford to give out patches that cost us money. No one will let you do a ride along in NYC without explicit permission from the fire commissioner, basically not going to happen.
  7. So lets endanger the lives of almost 3500 people cause one person has a non-life threatening injury!
  8. Who cares! I don't give two sheets. We are going to be inundated with garbage now because of selective hiring we will be like Mt Vernon before we know it.
  9. ESU has them. They are priced way out of the relm of reality.
  10. Wait till that now that they have direction they will be telling you its inside and to the left. In the NYPD stupidity is rewarded.
  11. If the animal PD dispatchers had actually asked the one question that would have been pertinent I wouldn't be getting my class A ready. Where is the fire, the radio run was for a 59 of a residence 2007 Surf Ave, 13th floor. Had they said 2007 surf ave fire in the hallway they would not have done what they did. We hear PD gets 2 weeks off no questions asked for smoke inhalation, thats the rumor. Nothing in the PD academy has anything to do with saving peoples lives when a fire is involved. We now have basically two dead cops, the female is not going to ever return to duty because they thought they could do something. Something would have been to make sure the doors which are sometimes borderline impossible to get open had access and that the elevators were recalled. PD should not ever be using the elevators in fireman service, that is why it is called fireman service, cause its for FD use. You specifically hear on the PD tapes, use the elevator key. When we show up if the men have to hump up 13 flights to save someone its going to take time. Why should the cop who rolls up to the fire before hand get in before us to verify to his dispatcher a fire is occurring and it never be told to FD which is in route?
  12. Bratton today commented that he called several other PD's to ask if they had a protocol for fires, and they did not, because it is not their job. Fire proof MD fires are not like any other animal. Door frames are generally in block walls with steel frames and doors, in other words, you won't be donkey kicking your way in to rescue anyone. This is going to be an extremely unfortunate event that has probably like someone said been done thousand of times. Except this time they went to a rubbish fire in a public hallway and not an apt fire. Hopefully only one casualty from this is the result, although I would venture to guess she is going to be severely disabled from her lack of oxygen as well. You don't respond to fires with the intentions of saving anyone unless you are equipped and trained to do so, and with both being done by your employer. Im glad we had two good trucks on the box who are good at FPMD fires to be the ones to rescue these two. Hopefully a miracle will occur.
  13. If you don't say something to them, you are not helping anything. I say something to the tool bags wearing sunglasses, and the party ribbons on their lapel. I don't give a $h1T if someone gets offended.
  14. Only time I have ever heard true hatred from someone at work was when the alcohol flowed. And it wasn't a secret, and it wasn't in an official function. This guy is a joke. Had probably the greatest job going and he F'd it up. But he has civil service protection, so you know what? He can stay in that position forever. If he thinks donating 750 bucks to some organization is going to smooth things over he is sorely mistaken. The hatred in what he said goes back to Hitler and his animosity towards anyone not of the Aryan bloodline. Insert retarded for Jew, insert Irish for Jew, etc. The ethnocentrism this man displayed is beyond reprehension. If he had any self worth he would hang it up for the people that have worked hard for him. Let the legacy of the current members be his legacy, not his own downright pitiful and disgusting use of the English language.
  15. If you are working understaffed and choose to take a different approach from your life experiences as to how to titrate your patients ability to breath on their own go for it, in the end it will not be able to be proven in a court of law that you were more concerned with what 'could' happen from a person being combative IF they even will be. But like you just said, you can use this opportunity to educate yourself as well. If the advantages of using a drug is so far outweighed by its negatives that they give it to John Q public why do you think it would create a safety issue? My cop friends all take the H users of the PCP guys any day, try and fight one of them, its like trying to get a dog in a bathtub.
  16. BMW and MB both are at 15k intervals. Oil is still cheap enough to do once every 3-5 depending on your driving schedule. More short trips would equal more often changes. I do 90% why driving and I do it at around 5-6k. I only use Mobil 1.
  17. So you had 15 guys go sick, and you lost 2 days pay? Someone needs to get punched in the face, cause they sold you out.
  18. And if your City thinks guys using contractual sick time is a job action perhaps you should have a policy in place that people don't come to work sick, unless of course you are a spineless officer who can't make that determination when you see a guy on the couch for 22 hours cause he is a bit 'under the weather'.
  19. If your union is against a job action that the members are for it is time for new leadership. The only thing that is red or red/white and has three people in it should be an ambulance. As long as guys keep doing what they 'think' is the right thing they will continue to be treated like garbage.
  20. Nassau County PD was giving a class and handing out FREE nasal Narcan applicators. No prior training required. If you are seriously worried about someone being agitated because you brought them back to the living you should quit your job now.
  21. Saw a building in queens the other day, had TJI in the middle, and lightweight steel on the ends, need to go back and do some recon. Couldn't figure out why you would build like that.
  22. If you live in Mt Vernon, don't buy anything that burns. That whole FD is a disaster, half the guys are fresh air firemen and the guys left to do the job kill themselves and only can work for a good 10 minutes before complete exhaustion takes over. I witnessed something similar in New Orleans after Katrina. Half of the NOFD was in the front yard, half was inside, and every guy from NY was inside without a mask trying to get a piece. You see the real difference.
  23. Why? They have some great grant writers there.
  24. No idea what you even just said, but I will guess. Our warranty work goes to NJ, to Seagrave directly. Our mechanics will fix small things in quarters, but like ladder 107 blowing the entire air compressor all over the street in front of quarters, that gets done by them. Small dealers never serviced the City of NY.
  25. How would you know? When was the last time you even rode in any apparatus? Why do you think they have a service center? I bet you it was because it was a requirement of the deal, to fix the problems.
