  1. Storm most likely to hit around Cape May, NJ and will STILL be a Cat-1 when it comes up to Philly. PA EMS Strike Team 11 (Chester County) activated and on standby at Uwchlan EMS. We currently have all three stations staffed 24/7 until 0700 Thursday. Once sustained winds hit 50+mph, we're looking at making go/no-go response decisions.

  3. All I'm going to say is "Rescue 77" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0182627/
  4. Thanks!
  5. I'll have to check a second source, but in Philly a "Pipeline" Engine must have 1500 gpm pumpMinimum 500 gallon water tank (that's PFD standard,..)Minimum 15' 5" soft suctionMinimum 1500' 5" supply line (Most PFD pumpers have 3" supply they dump to deluge guns or other pumpers)
  6. I know TC has a Ford Edge used for organ transport. It was down my way this week for the quarterly GM's meeting.
  7. Who's operating this?
  8. Several EMS personnel injured in rollover. Reports are NONE of the members in the back were wearing seatbelts. http://www.goerie.com/paramedic-serious-after-ambulance-rollover-updated-120-pm
  9. Sigh,....this is the first time after 5 straight years I didn't make it OBX! A little side note about the Currituck County medics and Corolla FD: in 2009, my friend's mother suffered a stroke while we were down there. The medics were top-notch. One of the medics was also a volunteer at Corolla. Seeing as we had 4 young kids with our group, and knowing how much time the adults were going to spend at Outer Banks Hospital, he gave my friend his cell number and offered to give the kids a tour. Long story short, as I was one of the adults without kids, I made contact with him. He was a consummate professional! Great with the kids, he gave us all a ride in the pumper and let the older kids play with the 1 3/4 (with his and my help, BTW). We talked shop and he gave us great advice on surf fishing. I have to look for my letter to the chief to get his name, but from what I've heard from fellow travelers to OBX, that's the normal mindset.
  10. OK,...while I'm at it, what about Orange & Rockland counties? Just curious.
  11. Thanks for the info!
  12. Its always the little stories like this that make life better. R.I.P.
  13. Since I'm up this way for a few days - does MLSS have set stand-by posts in Ulster County? Hearing them a lot second-due or ALS in a lot of places and wondering about status system mgmt,... If anyone has an answer and can't share it for some reason, PM me, please. Thanks!
  14. Full story is here,... http://mainlinemedia...nUt104.facebook Fire Company website: http://www.merionfireco.org/
  15. The pumpers have a lot of service hours. WWFC's response area includes several major shopping centers and two VERY busy highways.
  16. Local trauma center down my way is pushing the same program. 6 months in and I haven't seen a car with the Yellow Dot yet,...
  17. Happy July 4th to everyone, especially those who are serving, have served, or left this world defending the actions of those in July, 1776.

  19. @x4093k - I know some of SCCEMS's management and they take safety very seriously. While just about everyone else threw a couple chevrons on their equipment (new and older stock), 94 is the only service in the area to adopt the Battenberg pattern.
  20. Until I saw the note, I was wondering if anyone came in from PA. Bit o' trivia - the pumper from Greenville is the former Engine 23 from Bryn Mawr, Pa. You CAN'T mistake that color scheme. Hope everyone stayed safe with all the heat!
  21. The official term is "swatting." Sorry, I have the memos on my work computer from our EMA people about this. Google it. Short version: hackers/losers/oxygen thieves use VoIP protocols to hack the phone line of the location they're staging the prank and call in a major emergency. The name "swatting" comes from the usual response of PD "SWAT" units.
  22. SCCEMS is located at Jennersville Regional Hospital in West Grove, Chester County, PA. Their response area is the largest and most rural in the county, so their chase cars are usually stationed at various fire companies in their district, so it was pretty rare to get a shot of one of them at the hospital AND outside. The newest unit, a 2013 Explorer, is behind 94 "A," but I couldn't get a good, unobstructed, shot.
  23. My company just took possession of a new Chevy Silverado pickup. It replaced the old "Squad" 87 and is lettered "Utility" 87. When I asked, I was told ChesCo was switching over for local uniformity. In all of the other suburban Philadelphia counties, as well as in Philly, "Squad" = rescue pumper. Of course, in Philly, Squads 47 and 72 are more specialized, along the lines of FDNY's squad companies.
  24. I was platooned to the South Station today. Fortunately, they had a public appearance event scheduled, so I was able to catch some of the trucks before they left. Top to bottom: MICU 87-6, safely hiding from the public,.... Engine 6-2 (along with its twin, Engine 6-1, they are due for replacement later this year with Spartan/Marion pumpers) Rescue 6 Utility 6 (lettered Squad 6, but Chester County is now assigning the "Squad" label to rescue-pumpers)
