House fire in Beacon under investigation

BEACON — City firefighters spent over five hours at the scene of a blaze at 12 Mountain Lane this morning.

The house was vacant and there were no injuries, Andrew Phelps, public information officer for the City of Beacon Fire Department, said in a prepared statement.

The department was dispatched to Mountain Lane at 4:35 a.m. Upon arrival, Chief Timothy Joseph confirmed a single-family house was on fire and a second alarm was transmitted, Phelps said, summoning an engine from Glenham’s Slater Chemical Company and the Village of Fishkill’s Firefighter Assist and Search Team.

The fire was extinguished after an hour and firefighters began overhauling the structure using heavy excavation equipment, Phelps said.

The department was placed back in service at 9:57 a.m., five hours and twenty minutes after the first units arrived at the scene of the fire, Phelps said.

The fire is being investigated, Phelps said.

City police, Beacon Volunteer Ambulance, Glenham Fire Department, Fishkill Fire Department, Chelsea Fire Department and Rombout Fire Department all provided assistance or coverage for the City of Beacon during the incident.

  2. I was on a call in Beacon one day back in the late 80's when a guy borrowed his brother's brand new car to pick him up at the airport. He stopped for gas and went to put dry gas in and the little tear off tab fell into the tank. The person stuck his finger in to try and retrieve it and the flap on the fill valve came down on his finger and cut into itabout 1/4 inch. We tried everything we could think of including soap, any otherlubricant no luck. We ended up gaining access to the trunk and cutting the fill pipe below the guys finger and pushing it back out the door for the access area. It was cold out maybe November ,December guy had no coat on. Job took about an hour .He was transported to a hospital for eval and released. On the lighter side I'd hate to be him and making that phone call to his brother............................

  3. Jet you probably know more than a fair share of the responders in the picture. I saw my brother in one. I also remember this was why Beacon got a set of air bags and formed there Rescue Company. Beacon also only had a set of spreaders from Hurst that they purchased in 1977 and were kept on engine 1(33-11) until 1987 when they took purchase of their first Heavy Rescue(33-55).

  4. Living right next to the great City of Paterson, I can tell you that it is not uncommon to tape off that much area. They are an active department and most of their fires go to 3+ alarms. Alot of people, apparatus etc....It is also not the best area to walk around in...

Thanks LED I should have known that but in a stupor with pain meds from a recent surgery. I'd like to know if there was a problem withthis photographer and other Police Officers in the past? I'm not accusing the Police of anything so please my brothers in LEO don't take it that way.
