  1. PEEKSKILL — The city will cut about 30 jobs and hike taxes by about 6 percent in an effort to stave off the effects of a higher-than-expected pension bill from Albany, Mayor Mary Foster said.

The jobs will likely come from the clerical and administrative areas of city government and come after the city’s workforce has already been decreased by 10 percent due to retirement and attrition, she said.

  2. The Westchester County Department of Health is giving free treatment for hepatitis exposure to customers of a Dunkin Donuts-Baskin Robbins store in Peekskill where an employee was found to have been carrying the hepatitis a virus.

The employee is being treated, and now health authorities are seeking customers of the store at 422 Washington St. who consumed ice drinks at the shop between April 1 and April 6. The treatment will be offered at Hudson River HealthCare, 1037 Main St. in Peekskill today from 3 to 5 p.m.; tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The treatment can prevent illness altogether or lessen symptoms from exposure to hepatitis A. Most cases of that strain of hepatitis are mild and resolve themselves.

For more information, the health department is reachable at 914-813-5000.

SOUTH BEND - When firefighters are rushing to a burning building, hoping to save a life, the last thing they want is to take another life along the way.

So each year the city's fire department trains them on how to safely drive those massive rigs on emergency runs.
