21Truck

I'm not fond of the van ambulances but it looks like their moving in the right direction. I've ridden in the back of a rig for 4 years and have been thrown around a few times. I hope other manufactuer's start working on something like AEV is

Ellenville first aid and rescue squad ambulance involved in MVA with state trooper call while responding to a possible DOA call. As of right now it is unclear who is at fault but from talking it sounds like the ambulance driver was driving too fast and recklessly

my dept. uses our village dpw pumps and a local gas station as a back up. We also have a diesel pump at our substaion which is out of town for the trucks up there and if we have a call up that way and need to fuel up. We have a good relationship with the village dpw since one of our members works there. our local squad uses our towns dpw pumps.

I finally saw a better pic of one of the completed trucks on fdnytrucks.com. They look really good on a mack chassisand I like the led lights on them. The only thing I noticed which looked odd to me was on the rear wheel what looks to be almost a barrel looking item coming off what I belive is the center of the rim. Any idea what this is and why it's ont eh trucks

coming across this I had heard about a week ago that Pataki had given the ok and passed it so police dept's can now use blue lights again when only a couple of years ago I heard there was a thing passed saying no. I don't know how true this is yet because I am still looking into it more. I know both PA and NJ use blue lights on cop cars and Jersey uses blue ona lot of firetrucks. It does make it confusing though since volunteers also use blue lights

FDNY is one of the greatest depts in the world today with an extensive history. As of late all you see on the news or in the newspaper is something negative about the dept. And your right, not once have I seen anything of the dept coming to the aid of it's members when something happens. I don't remember seeing anything being said from the dept about the higher response times when the commissioner said all the bs he said about it when the members were doing good. The commish has his nose so far up bloombergs a** he is liable to break it if the mayor turns without telling him. The most i've seen is the unions coming to the members aids. I guess a lot of people are afraid of bloomberg and scopetta to defend their own members from the bad press

I'll believe it when I see it. The barracks right down the road from me has just gotten new cars not even a year ago. It's just like the rumor of state police going to l.e.d lighting on all the cars, and that came from the newspaper

What a crock of BS if I have ever heard one that bad before. The city can't afford to reopen 6 engine companies or staff guys with proper equipment until someone has to die but NYPD can spend however much as they see fit to buy something they don't need? Where is the justice in that. FDNY has a highly trained hazmat team, 5 Rescue companies and what 6 squads or so but NYPD needs this equipment? goes to show that Bloomberg is a frigen retard. Thank god his term will be up. Hell i'm sure Fidel Castro can do better then Bloomberg

Who still has or had a Hahn apparatus at one time or another and what did they like about it and if it's missed. Down in jersey where i grew up there were 2 and the one i was wround I loved riding and had a lot of history to it

That is just about a dead match to Port Jervis Engine 6. Looks almost exactly the same

haha gotta baby a Hahn though since they don't make them anymore. I remember when Garfield NJ had a 66 Hahn quad refurbed in 84 but got heavily damaged in a fire at the plant and instead of getting a new truck got it refurbed anyway and kept in until 98. I used to love riding that truck as a kid. Wish they kept it around

Ellenville Fisrt Aid and Rescue Squad has taken delivery of a 2005 Chevy Tahoe state police package for use as a paramedic fly car. It has yet to be lettered and striped but will be next week and in service soon. It has a Whelen strobe/led lightbar, halogen grille flashers, headlight and taillight flashers, corner strobes front and back and a whelen siren. It will be equipped with some more lighting in back and a Motorola VHF mobile in the front and from what I hear one in back along with a lowband radio. Unknown at this time if cabinetry is going to be put in back but it is a nice vehicle. Figured i'd add it since i'm a member here and if anyone comes down this way and wants to see it

perrywinkle? hmmmm thats a new one for a color...if a dept has it somewhere i'm sure it would be in Walden in Orange County. See as a kid growing up it wasn't about the big red truck..it was more about the big white truck since the engine co. some of my family members belonged to ran a white engine and white utility for a while. TO this day the truck is still white and where i'm at now our ladder truck is white. I don't know if kids care much about the colors more then they do about lights and sirens

Normally I would say a color of any fire appartaus shouldn't matter, it's what they truck can do. But on the other hand I tihnk there is nothing wrong with a truck being any color a dept wants it to be. Plus if it's not red like most people want a truck to be it makes for a sharp looking vehicle. I love seeing trucks other then red because they stand out and look good, well most of the time. Plus it gives the buff's something to take pics of and makes for some talk about how interesting it looks

Ah but why buy a tiller to use it as a recruiting tool? I'm all for tradition and would love to have a tiller but the fact is now a days we have to realize that the volunteer base isn't what it used to be. Not many members work in town like they used to. They all have to commute to somewhere for work. Rearmounts, and midmounts are now the way to go as well as towers. Look at a city like Boston. They don't have a single tiller and have some tight as hell streets to manuver through. If you want a ladder to get into the tight streets a single axle rearmount would work. I've seen pics of Rye's rearmount that replaced a tiller and it is a nice looking truck and i'm sure it gets into a lot of places. Unless you have a career staff or enough manpower around during the day will make a tiller reasonable. Like I said before down in Jersey where I grew up they have a tiller and if I remembered correct it doesn't respond as muchduring the day only because the lack of manpower.

I will agree tillers are a very versatile and great piece of apparatus. Where i'm from in jersey our truck co. uses a tiller and has for many years. The only problem I find with tillers is you need 2 drivers to run the truck. During the day a lot of places that are volunteers have a man power shortage. So probably 9 times out of 10 that truck won't respond. I think thats why most dept's have gone to running rear mounts and towers. My current dept runs a rearmount and we can get it in alot of tight spots. I think the only way to get a rear mount to manuver like a tiller is to go with all wheel steering. But tillers are beatuiful pieces of apparatus that are quite enjoyable to look at

The E-One of the Midwest? Nah I think Pierce has a long way to go before the become anything Like ALF or E-One and KME especially. My dept has been all pierce since I believe 86 and There has never really been any major problems with any truck we own. They all get the normal routine problems like any other truck out there but they have held up well for us. Yes OshKosh did buy out Pierce and to be honest I don't see a change in quality, craftmanship, and service to customers. Yes Pierce can be an expensive brand of truck to buy and so is seagrave but my choice will always have to be with Pierce. But hey opinions are like a*******...everyone has one so no biggie..figured i'd reply back to what you said

Well for the price of the truck it should be perfect. I think it should be sent back to ALF and have the problem corrected...But from a picture standpoint it's a nice looking rig and quite unique in color

That is a sweet looking truck for an American Lafrance..The color is really sharp. Since it was said it is replacing an engine and I noticed it has a pump on it, does it carry water? Good luck on the truck though

Every dept by me uses some form of an accountability tag. My dept used to use tages with numbers on them. We used 3 colors each symbloizing something different. White was on scene, yellow was exterior scba and red was interior. We just recently went to a form of picture id accountability tag and use 2. white is on scene and red is interior scba. I think all the local depts might be working on one universal setup so when mutual aid is done we will know what each tag is for
