  1. At the Annual Fire Prevention and Life Safety Educators Conference they had a woman who lost her son in a campus fire, they also had Ed Comeau who is the publisher of Campus Firewatch. They have a lot of info on their site (www.campus-firewatch.com) and are trying to get more colleges involved in making their campuses safer for students. It might be an idea to get the colleges in the area to meet with them and join the fight to promote Fire Safety. A video that was shot at an upstate SUNY school by the OFPC asked College age kids what they knew about fire safety, nearly everyone interviewed said they knew STOP DROP and ROLL....Obviously the message of fire Prevention is not growing with the students past a certain age group!

  2. As stated by x635, why not ask for these tanks to be installed in these areas? I have seen tanks like these installed in parts of NH that are without hydrants as per code. BTW are there any automatic Tanker responses to the non-hydrant areas anywhere in the upper county? or is it as deemed neccessary by the ic?I have seen thes

  3. So the patient has O2, and the EMT/Medic depending on the flycar personel have done all they can do , what do we tell the patients family when they ask why we are not going anywhere? Or what if no crew is available/or no bus is available and now you must wait for mutual aid Time is ticking!

  4. OSWEGOWID: Those are all valid points, I hope one day ambulance companies, get together and get funding that is so desperiatly needed. pay parity with private hospitals, so people wouldn't have to work three jobs, and travel all over to do it. Sufficent units so that meals can be eaten would be great to! Maybe it's time to start lobbying for the cause to Albany, or the Feds? As for the R45..Yeah it doesn't have water, but the Eng is right behind it, so water is on the way!

Dknob17: In no way am I blaming the BLS unit, it's the system. There was no direct communication with units in the field, and units on a job(except for now-Medic has radio and Nexel)...This now gives a unit access to the info they need, to better serve the patient.

  5. ------------------------------------------------------------------------oh & don't forget the crossing guard duty (partially serious)... The duty medic has to be at certain places at certain times (train station, schools, churches etc) and sit for hours on end (this is a pelham thing not Empress')

that is enough not to want to work out there but then there is having to wait for a bus which is an entirely different problem.....

What's wrong with being given a post, you do it with Empress all the time? As for response times of buses, I haven't seen it yet. As I said earlier, there was always a wait when 38A1 was in S. Yonkers doing a job...only thing that has changed is now there is ALS on scene.(YES I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE MAY BE A NEED FOR RAPID TRANSPORT) No bus availble..MUTUAL AID. Residents were under an assumption that whenever they saw the bus sitting IFO the FD, "help was just round the corner!"...WRONG... How many times was 38A1 assigned to calls in Mt. Vernon or Yonkers, and there was no bus available for longer than 20 minutes? there were instances of up to 30 minutes, should that be acceptable? What were the reasons for those times? Distance? Lost? if the second why not call for a police assist? Amazing that people complain about sitting at various locations, but don't complain when they spend a good part of their shift sitting on a border waiting for units to free up!

  6. GOYANKEES: WHAT IS LEASED ON AN ANNUAL BASIS? THE FLYCAR IS OWNED BY THE TOWN OF PELHAM, ALL EMPRESS IS BEING CONTRACTED FOR ARE THE MEDICS. ONE OF THE ONLY CHANGES IS THAT 38M1 WILL BE DISPATCHED BY 60 CONTROL DIRECTLY, WITH EITHER R45 OR PMPD (SIMILIAR TO EVAC)

  7. As FAC911 wrote there will be a delay in the bus, starting 1/1/05, but nobody has stated that there is that problem now. If 38A1 is covering a job in Mt. Vernon or Yonkers, the next available unit for Pelham or Pelham Manor could be in the farthest part of Yonkers. Also after 11pm 38A1 goes out of service, and calls are covered by either MVA1 or another bus. An advantage the flycar is going to bring is increased communication between the scene, and Empress Dispatch. When they took the original 38A1 bus out of pelham, they never replaced the PD/or Fd radios....so nobody could contact the bus except for 60 Control, via Empress Central. It will also mean less calls for "expedites", i am sure the Empress staff will appreciate that!!. In response of Fd doing nothing, PFD responded to over 350 calls requiring medical assistance (EMS, MVA), I can't speak for Pelham Manor's numbers off hand, but I know they also lose calls by not being sent to 95 (which is in their district) and The Hutch above the NYC line, which depending on where the call originates, you may get FDNY, and OLM EMS. As with anything new there will be some scepticism, but let's see how it works, before it's crucified!!
