  3. As promised here are some more photos from the tour this past Saturday. Haslet was the only FD that we went to that was an all Volunteer Fire Dept. Some of guys were at the station and were kind of nice to pull out all the rigs for us. The Ford Engine had to be jump started for us. It took a while, but she finally fired herself up, and lined up for a photo. Haslet, TX. Engine 28 Haslet, TX. Truck 28 (former Richardson, TX. quint) Haslet, TX. 7. Back in 2005. It's a 100' midmount aerial tower.
  8. They run them down here in Houston, Texas. And well Houston isn't exactly a one horse town neither.
  9. Seth, It looks like you did pretty well in the short time you were up here. Nice job on the photos! Did you see a bunch of guys from the other board (FE.net) are coming to D/FW for a photo shoot tour?
  10. Seth, Where is the new Temple Central Station located in relations to the old one? Also, why did you let the air out of the Police cruiser's left front tire?
  11. I can't test anymore. I'm too old! I'm five years pass the cut off age of 36. Engine 2 and 4 have been replaced with Engines that look exactly like Engine 1.
  12. Seth, Has Temple started construction on Station 8 yet? Correct me if I'm wrong, but they currently have 6 Engines, 1 Quint, 1 Truck, and a Heavy Rescue running out of 7 fire stations. That's assuming Station 8 is not open yet. I tested there back in 2002, or 2003. I had worked over night, and then drove down there to take the written test. By the time I had finished the test I had been awake for 22 hours straight, and fell asleep waiting to find out if I had passed. I did pass, but never heard back from them. Maybe because I passed out in the lobby waiting for them to finish grading the tests.
  13. Are you kidding me? They dispatched the HART (High Angle Rescue Team)!! I'm assuming that's what they mean by Firefighters with specialist in height training with four or five strong.
  14. I'm glad they are all still alive. The truck looks pretty bad!
  15. Seth, keep the Texas photos coming!! Now about the 10th photo that you posted, isn't that suppose to be the new Central Station for Taylor? Temple is in Bell County, not to mention you have a picture of their new station. Isn't Temple suppose to replace Truck 1 now that they can fit something newer and bigger in Station 1? I thought I read that they wanted to replace it, but since nothing would fit in the old station, they had to wait until they moved.
  16. I like it. I've always liked the Pierce Dash. As far as the rear seats, I've always preferred to ride backwards sitting behind the driver any way. Part of the reason is I'm 6'7" tall and the rear facing seat always had more leg room for me.
  17. The Star-Telegram reports that the driver of the Honda has been arrested and charged with DWI and unlawfully carrying a weapon. The driver has a previous DWI conviction from August 2006. According to the Star_telegram the driver pulled over to the left side of the ramp against the retaining wall, and came to a complete stop. Then he pulled out into the path of the tanker truck and was hit. The impact has left a 13 foot hole in the retaining wall. TxDot will close down the ramp Sunday to repair the wall. http://www.star-telegram.com/2011/03/24/2948738/firefighters-rescue-truck-driver.html#storylink=omni_popular
  18. Jake, that is correct. Justin use to have a Scope on a Mack CF, but got rid of it a few years ago. Bridgeport's Scope is a burgundy color red. It's not brand new, it appears to be about a mid 90's-2000 model Seagrave. I don't have a photo of it. I saw it at the scene of a MVA as I was passing through about a year ago.
  19. Seth, This is the ramp from westbound I-20 to go onto I-35W. You must proceed up this ramp to go both North, or South on I-35W. This accident occured after where the ramp splits. This is on the ramp to go Southbound toward Waco. directly underneath where the cab is dangling is a grassy hill that leads down to I believe a creek. Just a few feet to the South of that would be the on ramp from Oak Grove Dr. to go West on I-20. The actual lanes of Westbound I-20 were never effected except for onlookers. Nor was this accident at the highest level of the ramp where it goes over both North, and Southbound I-35W. Both Interstates remained open through all of this. For those of you who may not be familiar with I-35. It runs from Laredo, Texas to Duluth, Minnesota. It splits in Hillsboro, Texas and I-35W (the W stands for West) runs through Fort Worth. I-35E (the E stands for East) runs through Dallas. They come together again in Denton, Texas. From what I know Engine 17, 28, Quint 17, Rescue 14, Squad 2 (the Hazmat Team), BC-1, and MedStar were on scene. I've also heard reports that the driver of the Honda may have been DWI.
  20. After securing the cab to the ladder of Quint 17, Fort Worth Fire Rescue TRT crew then rappelled down from the ladder of Quint 17 to remove the truck driver out through the passenger side window. Keep in mind the cab is dangling over the bridge about 100 feet above the ground. Once they got the truck driver out, they brought in two big wreckers to secure the tanker truck so they could begin extrication on the two people in the car. The car was pinned underneath the tanker up against the concrete wall. Rescuers had already made contact with the people in the car who amazingly were both conscious, and alert. The truck was designed to carry water, but the tanker was empty. I know the truck driver was okay. He was very shaken up, but was checked out by MedStar personell and was released at the scene. Both people in the red Honda Accord suffered only minor injuries and were transported to a Fort Worth hospital. Great job by all the rescuers!!
  21. Thanks guys for clearing that up!
  22. Great job as always with the photos, Seth. I like the idea of where they have the crosslays. It looks like it makes for easier deployment, and also easier to reload.
  23. I like the new Engine! It's sharp looking. I didn't think the Quantum was that old. Then again they've pretty much replaced all of the front line units, or about to. So I guess that would make the Quantum the oldest. Seth, what does Station 5, and 6 currently have. I know you told me 5 is getting a new rig soon, but I can't recall what they have right now.
  24. If it's possible, I would recommend you try to get a customized rig. When I was a volunteer a few years ago we had two commercial cab engines that were on a Freightliner chassis. One was from Quality (now Crimson) that was a 2000 model and always having problems. Brakes would go out, wouldn't start, always seemed like something mechanical would be wrong with it. This wouldn't be Quality's problem I don't think as much as it would be Freightliner since that's who the actual chassis/drivetrain/engine was from. The thing was a Freightshaker when it was in service. The 1995 Pierce also on a Freightliner was much better. Never seemed to have problems with it. The biggest problem I had was there is absolutely no room inside a commercial cab. We also had a American LaFrance aerial tower. Since it was an aerial, it be hard to compare to an engine. When I was in the fire academy and rode with my instructor at his dept. They had all Pierce Dash units. I loved those. Plenty of room inside the cab. They seemed to be very reliable. Although their Quint did stop pumping in training one day and had to be towed off by a big rig wrecker.
  25. Got it. I didn't know where the Squads had been moved to. I know I would see Squad 7 all the time when I use to go down there before Station 7 opened. Then when I was down there in November 2009, Station 7 was open and I saw the Engine running Code. If were up to me, I would classify the new trucks as Brush trucks, if they intend to keep the two Squads classify them as Squads, and if the new Chief buys a new rig for the TRT, classify it as a Rescue. BTW...Great job on the photos Seth! Yes, I know how bad the grass fire season is. It's already been crazy up here. Well more like Wise, and Jack county just to the North, Northwest of me.
