He is the Battalion Chief for the area. (Batt. 17)
And a very well thought out post.
I believe E. DiBartolo is the W. Co. Fire Coordinator for Batt. 17, not a Bat. Chief and his job is handling Mutual Aid.

This thread is badly misnamed! The discussion is about consolidation, not elimination! Peters does not want any PO to lose his job, as far as I can determine. I like the level of service they give us now. Hope it stays that way.

Only in America!!! Or the North Pole.

What is the address of the building involved?

One of the PD members on this dizzy thread mentioned that POs are not required to use seat belts. Dosen't make sense to me! Is this a fact? I can only hope that most PDs require their use.

Looks like he is using his personal vehicle for his business. The District Vehicle was just sitting in his driveway in the tv report. Regardless, he should be suspended ASAP!

Any one have an idea why gas prices went up between ten to fifteen cents suddenly? ( Westchester Co.)

Its great being able to hand over our country to a terrorist! God Bless AmericaI guess you didn't listen to John McCain last night. He's going to work to help the new Pres. fix the problems facing us. Calling Obama a terrorist helps nobody! Get over it! Do some good.

Why are the members of the West. Co. Executive's security detail all detectives? Doesn't make sense to me. Same with the River Patrol. Looking forward to some knowledgeable answers from the PD guys.

Democrats favor labor. Republicans favor Corporations. (Haliburton comes to mind). No matter what else, It's your vote to be used as you wish. Just vote! Often!

Does gasoline really go "bad" if you leave it unused for a period of time? Some people are convinced this is just another urban legend, and that people who worry about "old gas" and spend money on fuel stabilizer are wasting psychic energy as well as cash.http://autos.aol.com/article/general/v2/_a...703144909990001
Good question. The web address given has the answers. Gas can definitely go bad. Use of fuel stabilizer for storage time is highly recommended!

Enjoyed the thread. Been retired over 10 yrs. now, but I think that's the first time I heard the beach ball tip mentioned. Makes good sense for certain conditions, but in Westchester I never heard a call for MA like: Request XXXXX FD for their rescue with the beach ball.

Is that Pleasant Valley location the Christmas tree farm with large truck collection? Sad looking old rigs from many places! When HRPC closed down its fire house, all of the apparatus and hose was given to the Fairview Fire District. The apparatus was kept in the back of the firehouse and was eventually auctioned off to the highest bidder. The highest bidder happens to be in Pleasant Valley which is where the apparatus still sits to this day. I am told that the ladder is still in fair condition, although I have also been told it sits outside. The two pieces of apparatus were sold together. The buyer was more of a Mack fan but took the LaFrance when he won the bid. The old cab over ford which was nicknamed "Yellow Bird" sat behind Nichol's for a while. I do not know it it is still there.Hope this helps

My wife being a shrink I just read her HIPPA statement she has her patients sing and asked her and it's all about transmitting and releasing personal information. Sort of like the confidentiality statements you get from your bank. Having a picture in the paper is not a violation so long as no personal info is released. So her patients sing the HIPPA statement. Highly unusual therapy!

Editorial from the Pueblo (CO) Chieftain - October 6, 2007Text of the legislation @ http://www.iaff.org/politics/PDF/S2123.pdf
The article in question here was not written by the media. It was written by a Fellow of the Heritage Foundation, a Conservative Think Tank with an anti union, pro Big Business agenda. They are backed by all the big corporations in the USA and many from other countries. Mr. Shenk, the author of the article is using fear tactics to stir the pot! Don't believe everything he says. One untruth he states as fact is that all 26,000 Vol. Fire Depts. are anchored by a core of Career FFs. when they're off duty. What a heap of BS! Sure, some FDs have a lot, some a few, off duty career guys, but I feel I'm right in saying that a majority have none! Don't sweat it Vollies. You'll be around for a long time.

I have no doubt in my mind that 1.)the survivors didn't tell the police that there were other people in the vehicle and that 2.)the police assumed that they were the only occupants and didn't ask the survivors.I suspect that you're right about the survivors not being forthcoming about all the circumstances including the presence of other victims and the whereabouts of the vehicle. Even if the PD did ask - if they were told NO, what would the FD do if they were called? On the surface it seems like the PD really dropped the ball but I'm skeptical. Until all the facts are in and objectively analyzed - not by a victims family member - I'm not rushing to judgment. There was a situation like this on the Cross County Parkway a few years ago when a victim ejected was not discovered until the next morning and the accusations FLEW blaming EVERYONE who was there for not finding him. Turned out there was no wrongdoing - just a tragic accident.
Fully agree. I doubt any police dept. would call out the F.D. if the survivors said they were the only persons in the vehicle, as long as those survivors acted in a believable behavior. Now if they acted drunk or were falling all over the place or barely conscious I would go with the old time proverb: WHEN IN DOUBT, SEND THEM OUT. Who's it gonna hurt to look around fast with the thermal imager. As for the P.D. in my town, they are usually good with calling out the F.D.'s when there may be even the slightest chance of our victims.Ok well I definately agree with the fact that the survivors probably didn't the anyone about their friends. But what I want to know is why does one article put the distance of the bodies at "about 60 feet" and the other one say "10 feet". This is starting to turn into another "News 12" story where instead of reporting the actual facts they are going to start shooting blame to make up some good news. Now why can't they tell it as it is a tragic accident where two young men lost there lives and let those men rest in peace, instead of smeared all over the headlines for weeks on end!Monday, Gary Police Chief Thomas Houston said Darius Moore, the driver, and the other 17-year-old survivor, DeAndre Anderson, had been drinking illegally, their car was speeding and the boys -- who walked four blocks away from the crash -- had initially misdirected police to the accident location.I think this sums it up. It is unfortunate this happened. Young lived lost due to alchohol and speed. Maybe the police should of called for help but when the smoke clears who is really at fault???
You all "assume" and "without a doubt" a lot. You don't know the facts so why bother. A Good search of the accident scene was not done because someone "assumed" it wasn't needed, but it was. Fact!
