OOPs, that's Lake Mohegan NY, forgot to mention, and the ladders, (3 of them, 55ft, 75ft, and 105ft, I think) Are Quads. Loaded with rescue gear, they are simular to the engines.

All Lake Mohegan Engines are rescue pumpers. Loaded with most of what you'd want. And some things you haven't thought of. But the tanks are 500 gal. max., unless I've missed one Cap!

Good job Y'Town! Considering the weather, the construction of the house, and rehab requirements, well done! As far as M/A questions, WAS965 and others have a right to ask. Want to learn? Ask. I've had over thirty years on the job in Westchester (retired) and M/A still has no set pattern. While in Maryland in the 70's for some fire training I saw a lot about how M/A should go. Chief or OIC sees what he needs and tells the Control Center. That's it! Control takes over. Over 35 years later, we're not there! I can see the local OIC calling for FAST or initial needs right away, but major needs should be handled by 60 Control and the Battalion with M/A charts. Why aren't they? Hiding behind Screen Names? Just about everybody uses them. Who wants unneeded calls?

As an Aviation fan and retired firefighter, I was very interested in an article in the July issue of Air & Space Smithsonian magazine. It's called: Thank You For Not Flying. I reccomend it to all fire & rescue personnel, especially the decision makers. I've always thought the people in charge called for the heliocopter too many times too soon. The article seems to show that is true. Consider the author's credentials and forget the part about vollies getting free pizza. I don't think that has to do with our area. I'm sorry I can't give you a link to the story. The mag is online at www.airspacemag.com. I don't think the article is there.

Are Police incidents a part of a Fire and EMS Forum? About one third of the Incident Alerts on today's page are shootings, pursuits. etc. Most in Yonkers. Of course EMS gets involved with some of them, but not all. Seem to be going away from the stated purpose of this Forum. Am I wrong?

Putting the importance of what we do as firefighters into a rock musical video belittles the job just as most tv shows manage to do. Kentland is a great VFD. Knock off the BS and chest beating. You don't need it!

I just noticed another wreck in the NYC reported in the forum. An ESU truck with serious injuries on July3rd. Pray that all involved survive. Surprised to see no mention other than the original item .

The picture shown in the Post, the one on this forum, shows a vehicle in pretty good shape considering it was supposed to have made three complete rolls. NO WAY! Looks like it laid over on the left side and slid. The ladder section hardly moved. How are the FFs doing? Anyone hear?

I think the most obvious fact that is proven in this incident is that the NY Post dosen't look for truth in a story, just sensationalism! I drove trucks similar to that one for many years. I wasn't there so I don't know what caused the rollover. But "Steve", you were not there either, were you? Hope everyone involved comes out okay.

Good points Hudson 144, Especially about rigs called O/S for a parade staying O/S. Chiefs should have coverage plans that avoid calling parade rigs in all but worst case incidents.

PVFD 113, in your post recorded at 9:12pm, May 31st, You say "It is better than what they had which was nothing". Then in the following post , alsfirefighter thinks you're referring to Mohegan FD. Are you? LMFD is far from nothing. Previously you mentioned, "Lets work together". Well, talk like that will not help the situation. Maybe you're just referring to dispatching. If so, say so. 60 Control is an improvement, don't insult the past!

To PVFD 113 I've got to agree that having 60 Control dispatch Mohegan VAC is good, but the Career FF's usually toned out the VAC within a minute, not five, and not after the Eng. got on the scene. Also the times that the Amb. responds ahead of, or with the Eng. & Utility are rare! Five plus mins. behind is more like it.

Sounds like a good move for LMFD. Good for the VAC, good for the career FF's, and good for business for the Pros at WC Dispatchers' office. It would be nice if it improved response times but I doubt it.

In Mohegan the material used was not sand or speedy-dry but a type of crushed stone grit. It worked okay but chains were the norm on storm days. The grit was great for scooping out of the hopper and spreading on the ice formed at working jobs and it never clogged the drop chutes.
