  1. Yes, 4000 feet of 4 inch supply line on the reel. As for a wetdown, I would think that they will have one...although, as the past few years have shown, it's hardly a guarantee. Seems to be a dying tradition in some areas for any number of reasons. If I hear anything about it, I'll post it either here or in the Events thread (unless somebody else does first).

  2. "Here we go again"? Hey, it's a "free" forum....anyone that wants to post a listing of upcoming drills and training opportunities is more than welcome to do so!

Since the subject line was altered to include "events" as well, let's see some wetdowns, too. I know they're not so common in Westchester, but there's plenty of Dutchess, Orange and Ulster people on here as well.

  3. In some areas, the manpower issue has affected parades as well as normal every day turnout. Large groups in line of march are not as common as they used to be (at least not "up here"), and the days of the apparatus looking like it just rolled out of the factory....well, that's the rare treat in a time when it used to be the norm.

That having been said, I agree with some of the others: If you play "responsibly" and have made sure that your district is adequately covered, then there's nothing wrong with taking a few hours of a Saturday afternoon to enjoy yourself and show some pride in what you do.

  4. Warwick's tanker is now on a Mack Granite chassis.

As for their interest in KME, a friend who's on Raymond Hose told me that what they like about KME is the service. If something goes wrong, all they have to do is call KME (or the local dealer) and a mechanic is there the next day. With 4Guys, you have to take the truck to them, and that's not always convenient.

As for any other department, could be the same thing. Could be preference. Could be those dreaded two words, "Low Bid". Who knows.

  5. Earlier in the thread, a Winona Lake member posted that there had only been two bidders, Pierce and KME. KME was apparently lower cost. I am curious to see if Winona's engine will still be in that cream/ivory color, the exact name of which escapes me at the moment.

Add to the upcoming orders list Washington Heights, seeking to purchase a medium duty rescue.

  6. Is there any specific reason that Silver Lake put the Ferrara engine as 158 since the pierce was 157, future plans to add something else in the future?

Not sure why, but it's not the first time they've done that, nor are they they only department in the county that does. The practice does seem exclusive to engines, though.

When they got the Pierce, it was a replacement for 156. The current 156 was the replacement for 159. I am a bit puzzled as to why they chose 158, as that is/was the number assigned to their antique Mack pumper.

Maybrook and Washingtonville flip-flop numbers around as well. Maybrook's 218 was replaced by 210, and in about six months, if all goes well, they'll have another new engine which will replace 215 and be called (ironically enough) 218. Wash'ville replaced 580 with 583, and the soon to be delivered replacement for 582 is going to be called 584.

Regarding Tuxedo, both new rigs are supposed to be the same manufacturer, and it's whoever got the low bid. So, unless there has been a change of plans, both will apparently be KME.
