  1. I don't see why we can't consolidate ALL the different police and fire departments into one. The people will complain about the lack of 'community policing, knowing your police officers', but I bet they'll be far happier with the 1000 dollar smaller tax bill they'll get. The many fiefdoms of Westchester lead to confusion on so many levels that the consolidation idea MUST be explored again. Yes, we can roll Yonkers and Mount Vernon and White Plains into a Countywide system. Will be it easy? No. Will it be cost effective and safer for everyone in the long run? Yes.

  2. Depending on ESU is a very false sense of security. In situations like this time is essential. If ESU is immediately available fine, let them respond in. However ESU responds to aideds, MVAs, EDPs and a host of other things meaning that usually they will not be immediately available. What has to happen is better training for ALL police officers and a rifle and shotgun (along with O2 and an AED) in every car. Depending on ESU to save the day leads to weaker cops, just as sending a medic to EVERY medical call can lead to a weaker EMT ( he will never have to deal with an unstable patient by himself all the way to the hospital.)

  3. Thanks for the info. My point was this 60 y/o was tazered (I am not questioning the use of the Tazer, (It makes great sense in protecting everyone) the barbs removed. The person transported to the hospital and admitted for psych evaluation (note: not under arrest). The hospital staff found out that the person was Tazer'ed by:

    A) the police dept

B.) EMS unit that transported the "patient"

    C) The Journal News (article 24 hrs later)

    D) All of the above

The answer should have been "D" but in this case the answer was "C".

MVPD has an absolute policy to leave the barbs in for removal AT THE HOSPITAL by hospital staff only and that ALL people tased HAVE TO be transported by EMS. I find it literally impossible for them not to have realised that she had been tased since 1.) the barbs would have still been in 2.) EMS transported her in and 3.) PD would have, without a doubt been transporting with her and would have been at the hospital with her.

  4. The codes are off because of the Bronx. The five NYC Counties do not fall into line, however, for Kings, New York, Richmond, and Queens, the number were sequenced between the County prior and post. For reasons unknown to me, this wasn't done with the Bronx. Broome County, which follows the Bronx was issued "03", instead of "04".

Thereby causing all Counties following da Bronx to be maladjusted.

Police agencies use location codes that correspond correctly, therefore a Traffic Ticket issued in the Town of Cortlandt contains a CTV Code of K6051. "K" for being in the confines of Troop "K" and 6051 for Cortlandt.

We only us the number code, not the K(W), though that is part of the NYSPIN symbolic...

  5. I don't understand why these fire districts don't require a Type I or III ambulance for these contracts? With some of the transport times in Dutchess County, as well as the calls, and safety of the crew, I'm sure a mod would be a lot better off.

You can get a Type III Chevrolet/Wheeled Coach Citimedic for a good price, and they are very nice units.

What would transport times have to do with a mini-mod? As for the safety, I also don't see a difference.

  6. Truck 4,

Are the guys who got layed off eligible to transfer somewhere or do they have to goto the acadamy again??

Technically they aren't certified police officers yet. About 2 years ago DCJS made post academy field training a part of the curriculum. I think they need to do something like 5 or 6 weeks more training to be certified.
