  1. Amber Alert: Rockland Teen Kidnapped

The Town of Ramapo Police Department has activated the Amber Alert system to search for a teenage girl who was abducted by three masked men at about 3 p.m. this afternoon.

Police are urging the public to help locate the girl in what they are calling the crucial next few hours, WCBS 880's Catherine Cioffi reports.

They were last seen driving south on Trinity Avenue in a silver-and-gold Toyota Camry with the New York State license plate CPF 8770.

  2. Recently our Village passed a resolution to adopt the NIMS system of command and control of all incedents. (ABOUT TIME!!!!) Within our F.D. we have set in place guidelines for whom has to get certified (ALL) and at what level. FF must have 100 and 200. Line officer 100, 200 & 700. Chief Officers 100, 200, 340, 700 & 800. The training and exams are free on the FEMA web site & they mail you a certificate within 10 days.

It is also my understanding that by Sept. all first responders within the State of New York must be NIMS compliant. I know it is going to be a factor on all grant applications from now on.

I just wanted to ask if your Dept. has a set of guidelines and how they are implementing the NIMS system.

  4. Every few days somebody posts a LODD, from overexertion/heart attack. Physical fitness is the key!!! As everybody knows we take our bodies from 0-60 in 2.0 seconds. In bed one minute, then within 10 minutes we are placing demands on our bodies that the average person wouldn't dream of doing. I am a member in a not very busy Dept. It is very easy to get complacent about my physical conditioning. That complacency could kill me !!!! (or any one of us)

We are very fortunate in our Dept. The entire top floor of our building is a full size gym. We leave 1/2 as a basketball court/pt area and the other 1/2 is full of cardio,

strength, and other assorted pieces of fitness equipment. Most of the equipment was used and donated to us by residents. We recently implemented a P/T program 3 days a week. Especially targeting the cardio aspects of fitness. We throw on some packs, grab some tools or maybe an apartment pack and do some stairs. (the first time I did this my calfs hurt for 3 days). The turnout has been good and getting better. We keep the workout tough but loose, if you need to take a break, take a break. It is all about getting healthier then you are now, not competing against each other!!! The progam has started to become contagious among the members. We are feeling better, more confident, and never mind the $$$$$ we save on not having to pay for a gym.

  5. In our Department we just ran into a wall when it comes to Haz-Mat training. We have applied to Camp Smith for Several of our members to take the intro to fire officer training starting on Feb 10. It turns out that the old basic, essentials, intermediate and andvanced classes did not cover any haz-mat first reponder ops.

while the newer FF1 course does. It turns out that Haz-Mat first responder Ops is a pre-req for the Intro to fire officer class. We tried to register and take the course at DES, but as allways if you did not sign up within the first hour of the listing - forget about it.

So here is what we are looking for: A certified instructor to come to us. We are willing to pay whatever the going rate is per student or per class. We have a projector and screen set-up for a lap top. Let us know whatever else is needed.

Hope to hear from someone soon.

  6. I was doing a little research on Christmas Tree fires with my 9 year old. After watching the video. We had a discussion on maybe it was in our best intrest to get an artificial tree. She was giving me a hard time so we surfed the web and came up with this test done in Detroit

    http://www.mcta.org/treemyth_mil.pdf

After reviewing this page she promised me that she will check the water twice a day, morning and before she goes to bed. I told her that I will buy a real tree this year, but as soon as the needles dry out the door it goes!!!!!

  7. nice to know the royalties me made off the dvd's i bought are going to defend this useless piece of garbage that should just be left to rot in some corner. this kid isn't worth the time of day defending & should never see the light of day ever again. DIE SCUMBAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    DITTO!!!!!!!! Well said.

They should let MR.High and Mighty spend a day with the family of officer.

Now that Mr. Liberal has joined that punk, watch how the story dissappears from the "news " . I just googled Bail DeNiro Brancato and got just aboutr zip from the major news networks

  8. More importantly...why do they still have them?

Or even better why use them up until a certain time?

In Pelham we still have quite a few dead spots with the pagers. Especially inside certian office structures, schools & a few low lying spots. The horns definitly alert many of the local members of the box. Our horns actually sound out a box location so you can respond without having to call or go to the house. As for the time restrictions----Politics and high taxes, people don't want to hear the horns at late hours, it actually isn't that much of a problem for the members, because at night we are all usaully home and have our pagers in an area that we know will get reception. The only exception in the silent hours are in cases of working fires, some sort of community alarm (haz-mat evacuation) or when personal are needed.

  9. Congrats, I think to celebrate you should try to get out of bed in a good mood. Let one of us screw up your day!!!!!! Ya never give us a chance!!!

Thanks for being a great instructer, whom believes in right from wrong not always what the book says!!!

    RE-ELECT HILLARY------!!!!!

DID I GET YA GOING????? LOL

  10. Groups rally at City Hall to keep BJ’s out of the Bronx

Play the video (11/16/05) THE BRONX - The battle to keep BJ’s Wholesale Club out of the Bronx continued Wednesday as members of organized labor groups rallied on the steps of City Hall.

Critics of the store say it is anti-union and bad for small businesses. Members of the Neighborhood Retail Alliance agree, saying the big box store will decimate the local Mom and Pop stores.

In a letter to the City Council, the president of the Throgs Neck Tenants Association endorsed BJ’s saying it will provide jobs for residents. Union leaders, however, say the jobs don’t support the price of living.

A BJ’s spokesperson says the store is a quality employer with a 20-year history in the New York metropolitan region. Store officials look forward to discussing the Bronx plans with City Council members.

  11. The Chiefs stipend in Pelham is 12,500. He also gets a car w/ins and fuel.

The main reason for the stipend is that he his responsable for the career and volunteer members budget, and every day functions of the Dept. The chief is and has allways been a Volunteer member whom has gone thru the ranks and selected by the Volunteer members and confirmed by the Village Board.
