  3. Haha I like Barry's answer. Not sure where Seth took this picture? However, Con Edison has a Transmission Line crew that operate out of the Westchester Industrial Complex in Buchanan. They are assigned several Jeep Wranglers and other 4x4 vehicles as much of their work involves off road driving. My father retired in 2007 after 44 years of service with Con Edison, spending many of his last years with this crew.

  5. Lt, funny you say that...I keep hearing that their FAST is OOS as well. Perhaps I was mistaken and Castle Point was the initial (and only) FAST?
  6. ARDSLEY The action wasn't just on the football field this weekend at Ardsley's homecoming. As the Panthers took on the Irvington Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon, an 83-year-old man stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest after apparently trying to eat a hamburger, officials said. Luckily for him, two off-duty Yonkers fire lieutenants were at the game, saw the man on the ground and sprinted about 25 yards toward him. Link to the Journal News article http://www.lohud.com/story/news/local/westchester/2014/09/22/duty-yonkers-firefighters-save-man-ardsley-homecoming/16034061/ Hats off to Lieutenant's Hewitt and Hanney for a job well done. 13. A co-worker first showed me this video yesterday and my first feeling was that these Troopers showed great restraint. As 10512 touched on, there is a use of force guideline that LEO's follow. This guideline can and will change somewhat rapidly for LEOs and they must know how to properly escalate and de-escalate through these steps (hands, OC, etc). From what I gather, NYSP units were called to this area for a fight in progress or something along those lines. The subject in the video had just assaulted 2 people with a 2x4, which I believe is assault with a deadly weapon (LEOs please correct me if I am wrong). The subject also appeared to have some injuries and the Troopers first priority was to check his injuries and to assure he was ok. It was only AFTER he refused numerous orders and became combatant that the Troopers went hands-on. I feel like they could have justifiably been more "aggressive," even earlier on, but gave this guy plenty of chances. That right there shows great restraint. Had the Troopers rolled up while this guy was still armed with the 2x4, things may have been different. Had that been the case, they very well would have drawn down on him with their sidearms. Had that occurred and he made the mistake of going toward the Troopers in an aggressive manor and refused to drop the 2x4, he very well could have found himself on the wrong end of 2 Glock 45 caliber handguns. Thankfully for all involved, this was not the case. I say hats off to these Troopers and I can only hope that they were not injured.

  15. I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you sir. While I can respect the idea that taxpayers (voters) should have a say in their municipal services, police procedure should not be one of those areas. Let's face it, the majority of people have little to know clue about the services they receive. So you want the civilian layperson to judge what amount of protection their police officers need? Most people probably have no clue how many police officers even protect their communities. Same goes for Fire and EMS (as has been beaten to death here). The majority of people have no idea what level (or lack of) fire and Ems services they are getting. They may know there's a local firehouse or ambulance corps. Other than that, they don't know if there is paid personnel or all volunteers. I work for a Village DPW. Do you know what the majority of residents are constantly concerned about? Garbage collection. I have family and friends who are LEOs and I want them to come home after every shift. Therefore I want them to have any and all equipment that may give them an advantage. Ask the residents of Newtown or Aurora if they want their Police to be as prepared as possible. 20 years ago we didn't have to think like we do today. Unfortunately we live in a different, ever changing world with an unpredictable society. It sucks, but it is reality. I carry a firearm on an almost daily basis. I know that carrying a firearm is not my only line of defense and may not save my or my loved ones lives. However, I carry because it just may be my only line of defense. I love my life and want to stick around as long as possible.

T482 arrived, put it's bucket to the roof and it's roof team checked for vertical extension which was (-). The interior crew opened up for the engine crew. T484 arrived and it's crew assisted in opening up. E478's crew arrived and it's crew assisted the initial attack crew. After opening up in the paint room, the fire was quickly knocked down. 17. Was hoping someone on here had some tips for cleaning ear flaps on a fire helmet. I currently use a N5A leather New Yorker, in which the ear flaps are not removable. Any ideas, tips or recommendations for cleaning, while maintaining the integrity of the helmet, are greatly appreciated. Stay safe

  22. My sentiments exactly! Sir, these are amazing shots that you normally don't see. I love how you captured the raw emotions of not only the firemen, but the civilians as well. Then there's the 3/4 boots, long coats, fire ball gloves and true leather helmets...now that's history in a picture. Again, great shots and please keep sharing them.
  23. To clear some of this up.... Some of Peekskills career FF's are paramedics. There are fly-cars stationed with E130 and E131. When the FF/Medic goes on a Medic call, they respond in their fly car, thus placing the respective Engine out of service.
