  18. VGFD had (2) Engines and (1) Truck for this fire which came in around 1:30 on a Tuesday (St. Patricks Day). Hate to say it, but that's a hell of a lot more than many Depts can get anytime nowadays. I am in NO way saying that is a good response, believe me. We strive to dump both our stations with full crews. Obviously this doesn't happen all the time unfortunately. As far as having Newburgh come in M/A; They are very gracious. We (VGFD) have them on our boxes as our primary FAST for obvious reasons. It is rare that we would call upon NFD for an additional company because we know the strain it creates for them. We try and release NFD as quickly as possible to get them back into the City.
  19. I have a question regarding one of LoHuds pictures; in picture 5 of 6, I see 4 Career members of the Mohegan FD. I've been out of the Westchester loop for awhile now, but was curious how Mohegan worked as far as M/A with Career members. Will several Career FFs respond to make up a FAST or what not? Again, just curious, thanks for any info.

  22. ...Barry, there you go again with that "c" word, jeez lol. Because it's the cool thing to do? Kidding aside, you make a valid point. Obviously verticle ventilation is important, but how important? We always have to keep that risk vs. benefit thought process in the backs of our heads. I know the guys wanna make the cut, which is great, but at some point you have to realize when the roof is untenable. As for the amount of M/A called; I wasn't there. But ya know who was? The IC...he called the resources he believed were needed to safely operate. Given the time of day and weather conditions, this was probably a good call. As M'Ave pointed out, they can always be released/cancelled. Better be safe than sorry in my book.
