  2. Remember585, I couldn't figure out why nobody had posted that job yet either, i was going to, but there was way too much info for that alarm, and i didn't want to leave out any of the good stuff lol, so bravo on your post, great reporting (guess it helps when you work for 60 lol)! And yes, to all those who participated in this alarm, hell of a job! Not only was it a big fire, but it was stubborn with a lot to contend with, plus it was a long day! BFD1054
  3. I feel that the 10-codes can be a great thing, if they are used properly. In some situations, it is just easier to talk "freely," but it is better to keep radio traffic to a minimum. One thing that really gets me heated is people saying useless info over the radio or people who ramble on. I truly hate when i hear 60 Control dispatch a call, and you get a chief sign on "Car Blah Blah Blah is 10-17 to number 10 Main st. for an automatic fire alarm." That just kills me....60 Control knows where you are going, they just dispatched you for crying out loud lol! That is a prime example of useless radio talk. A simple 10-17 will do! BFD1054
  4. We have had this problem come up in the past as well. I would have to think that i am not alone in saying that departments in Westchester could use as much help as they can get. I don't know about other departments, but i have noticed a downfall in membership in other local departments, fortunately enough, my department has been doing okay in membership, knock on wood. So, i to agree that it is quite silly to not alow people to join if they live out of district. My department has actually extended the area in which you must live so that we could get more members. We allow anyone to join that lives within the tri-village; Buchanan, Montrose & Verplanck and have also let people from Peekskill join. I feel that if someone is willing to devote thier free time to a volunteer department, than they should be allowed to. At the same time, there has to be some boundaries, of course. Hell, i wish that i could join other departments to lend a hand, but that to is a no-no, but thats another issue. BFD1054
  5. I have seen this advertised before and have always been interested in helping out. I will try and talk to my chiefs in the near future and see if we have anything lying around that we don't need, but another dept. could use. I will contact you as soon as i get an answer! BFD1054
