  2. I agree. I hope it is false. My question was basically, will WCPD penalize Village of Ossining PD for this decision? Due to the reference of the Town no longer getting the same level of service, as mentioned in the quote below.
  3. Is it the position of WCPD that they will no longer provide the resources that are available to all municipalities in the County? Such as K9, Aviation, CST, SWAT, manpower during large scale events, etc., etc.?
  4. Can you elaborate on what the Ossining case was today?
  5. The ironic thing is those officers in theory could make contact with VOPD if they are interested in transferring back, no?
  6. No, it would be impossible to know if any OT is used for the existing posts, unless someone from VOPD chimes in here. But, if we assume even a little OT is currently used, having an officer do OT at this rate (once or twice a week) is still considerably less than many LE agencies.
  7. So, according to the VOPD website, they are 57 sworn members. I can't tell how up to date that is. Assuming you have a chief and a captain or two, you have over 50 officers available for the overtime pool. If there are 35 overtime shifts a week to fill (2 day, 2 evening, 1 midnight), it would mean each officer would have to pull an OT shift every 10 days or so?
  8. That seems like a potentially logical reason. How big is the village force? I mean, what is pool of officers that will be dividing up this overtime? The press release didn't really clarify if those five new positions could possibly be transfers as opposed to new hires. That would eliminate that five-month gap.
  9. I'm not suggesting OT shouldn't fill those posts, I couldn't agree with you more. My point is it involves a ton of OT. The underlying reason aside, OT is OT. My question was does it matter much which agency is paying the OT, county versus village?
  10. I'm a little confused why anyone is concerned with the OT. County in general is a high-OT agency, so whichever agency gets the contract, OT is going to be significant.
  11. That's not the case here. There are no Town cops to hire, they all already work for the County.
  12. The local or State police agency agency typically handles the investigation. Often the federal agency involved responds to handle a parallel investigation. If the federal agency operator is charged locally with any crime arising out of the accident, the case can be (but usually is not) removed to federal district court.
  13. Well, I relistened and all I hear is the recorder say "I can record" and the Trooper appears to say "You can" or possibly "Yes, you can." The Trooper doesn't appear to say anything directing him not to record, nor does he even engage him in any conversation, so.... There is no indication the Trooper said or took any action precluding recording. The Trooper is even walking away from the guy recording as he passes him. I'm not sure why some people go out of their way to assume the cops are wrong, when there is no evidence to substantiate that, and even in this case evidence to the contrary. Unreal.
  14. In line with the dangers of this career -- http://www.timesunion.com/news/crime/article/Police-officer-fatally-shot-in-upstate-NY-5732931.php#photo-6811365 While some on this forum probably don't see this as a tragedy, I believe most do and will.
  15. And that basically sums it up. In the eyes of the general public, if the officers act too quickly, they are faulted for not letting the situation self-defuse. If they wait too long to act in hopes the situation self-defuses, they are faulted. It's a lose-lose proposition.
  16. http://www.lohud.com/story/news/crime/2014/09/02/montrose-man-charged-assaulting-troopers/14955227/ Looks like the Troopers were looking to take him into custody after he beat another guy with a 2x4. Four previous felony convictions, and free to walk the streets!
  17. Not a kick to the head, a kick of the hat away so that OC Pepper could be utilized. From the guy who took and posted the video:
  18. I have no idea, maybe someone from MLSS could answer that.
  19. No, that was yesterday's footage. We did have a MLSS unit with us in the motorcade.
  20. There could be reasons even that distance away, but they're few and far between. Lengthy extrication, as an additional ALS unit at an MCI, perhaps others. Hard to tell from today's events, without being there, what might have prompted it.

  22. You cannot FOIL a NYS Death Certificate. They are not public records and you must meet certain criteria to obtain them.
  23. Actually, you keep your HIPPA protections fro 50 years following the date of your death. But the second part is correct, in many, but not all states, Death Certificates are public.
  24. HIPPA generally does not apply to law enforcement and medical examiners. HIPPA is not as broad as many people believe, it actually covers very little information. On top of that, some states have very broad public disclosure laws that mandate much of this information is public.
