  6. That is correct and that is the way it should be taught. However there is a difference in angles when climbing a ladder and bailing out of a window. This ladder was placed in the window for the purpose of FF bailout.

  8. In the NYS FF Survival class we are taught to place the ladder at a greater then "Proper" angle just for this reason. All in all there may have been some problems with the techniques used or the way things were done, but in the end you start to think "Who Cares"... EVERYONE WENT HOME Learn From Our Mistakes.Train Like You Fight.Stay Safe.
  9. Even as a Volunteer I wear my gear to EMS calls. This at least puts me somewhat of a professional looking position in the eyes of the public. Plus, my districts SOP'S state that on any call some form of district apparel must be worn.
  10. Everyone is attached on the whole training and vehicle maintenace. Yes that is extremely important, but what about the personel?? What if you have personel out on a lawn mower all day and just at the end of the shift a major fire rings in?? Fatigued Firefighter + Major Fire = LODD I guess the saying is true "Common Sense ISN'T So Common Anymore"
  11. Hasn't the fire load increased??

  18. The Westchester County Department of Human Resources administers the civil service examination for Firefighters that will be used to fill vacancies in the Fire Departments of the Cities of Peekskill and Rye and those of the towns and villages and Special Fire Districts within the County. At this time, the County of Westchester itself does not have a fire department. The Cities of Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, White Plains and Yonkers each hold their own Firefighter examination. Straight from the link above
  19. First off I did take the test... If my memory serves me correctly I believe that not only did the proctors of the test state that there was a timed section, but in the couple pages of directions that we were told to read stated that there was a timed section. I always rely on the old saying... "Believe Nothing of What You Hear and Only Have of What You See" I will NOT being protesting any questions, there is always another test.
  20. This has been around for quite sometime now... I am actually looking to get my hands on some to run some tests...There are videos out there of a small studed wall burning with the High Impact Wallboard, I unfortunately do not have them, but here is a Fire Department which did some testing Broome County Fire
