  2. As I have done in years past, just wanted to send out an extra special holiday "shout-out" to everyone who is working tonight/tomorrow! Hope everyone has an easy shift.

Thanks for the words of hope... My shift at the PD started out with Dispatch going BLACK and sitting in the dark til the generator kicked on and then ran for two hours. A good portion of the jurisdiction is still out of power

Merry Christmas to all and Hope you Have a Safe and Happy New Year

  4. With all do respect this is why we are dieing. Whether a brother was involved or not the vest is part of your PPE then it should be worn. Would you not put on your helmet because your brothers house is on fire or SCBA for that matter. If its in part of your PPE it should be worn. Yes maybe traffic flow was stopped but how about the multiple ambulance's, fire apparatus, Chief vehicles, Police vehicles and tow truck that were on scene. Do those count? We do not have a bridge in our area but I would imagine that with the 15 vehicle accident that the flow of traffic was shut down and some emergency vehicles might come from the opposite direction. That's a lot of traffic even the though the road is shut down.

Chief you missed the point of my post.

I totally agree with you in the use of our PPE. My post was meant to say that this topic was created by a fellow firefighter, about the fact that he was involved in the incident.

The point of the thread was lost, it wasn't meant to say whether or not units on scene were wearing their vests or not.

  5. Looking at the pictures on www.recordonline.com it appears not everyone is in compliance with the new safety vest laws yet.

23 CFR Part 634 states that the vest must be worn by the worker, which is defined in the regulation, when they are in the right of way. Since there was no traffic there was no right of way.

Secondly, a brother was involved in the accident, why in the world are we worried about if somebody on the scene had a vest on??

50 glad to hear you are ok and hope all involved are okay as well

  6. Firefighter Close Calls E-mail

    Hey...

While not directly related to injuries from firefighting, a Fort Wayne (IN) Firefighter is on medical leave after he became involved in a "push & shove" with another firefighter at the scene of a working fire. FW Chief Pete Kelly told the media that the firefighter's actions can be linked to stress. The Firefighter does not face any disciplinary action...here is the video:

    Fort Wayne News 15 Video

While we don't know the whole story this doesn't put us in a good light especially with the comentary from the cameraman.

  7. I would like to clarify the rumor that Hudson Valley Paramedics has lost their ALS license. They have not lost their ALS license, they agreed with Weschester REMAC to suspend their credentials in the 911 emergency system so that they can credential all paramedics to maintain westchester standards. This is only in effect for the next 2 weeks and Hudson Valley Paramedics will perform all other fuctions as normal. It would be nice if instead of people bashing and spreading unverfied information that they just go to the source.

On a side note they are not involved with any hostile takeover of any kind and hold themselves to a better standard of work ethics and community commitment. From the people I know this company is indeed attempting to successful and not image from the past.

Exactly what I was trying to get at
