  1. I guess you used to never hang out in any fdny houses. It used to be bad in some houses.
  2. No Ang, not a Rye Brook . How about a 100% volly dept? It would work for them.
  3. I am not talking about hiring people just to work AT a firehouse to get a truck out like on LI.
  4. Say for instance a DPW worker that wants to works for the town. Whether it be a combo, or volly dept, if they want a job, the have to get ff1 and 2 certified within 1 yr and would be called to assist if needed. Alot of municipal workers are already ffs, but make it a requirement. It would not cost any more, and alleviate a manpower problem during day hours.
  5. Any dept that needs more manpower. These guys can multitask.
  6. I love the guy, he has a heart of gold.
  7. What about requiring municipal workers to be trained as ff to supplement the fd? Just a thought.
  8. Dont bash good volly depts. This isnt a volly/paid issue. Your profile says you live in Brewster, which last I thought was 100% volly right?
  9. Well said, I wasnt at the call so I dont know where they were giong.
  10. WE know the truck is not 100% safe AND BEING REPLACED THIS MONTH !
  11. The truck is a 1981 and being replaced this month. It is an older video. The days of unsafe open jumpseats and an open tiller cab are over. Let it rest guys.
  12. In a vol dept, Lts should be driving a rig, not responding to a scene. Too many people have car designations. Only the 2 or 3 chiefs, depending on how many the dept has, should have car radios. Just my 2 cents.
  13. I dont think hiring paid staff is the answer. The taxes are high enough in Putnam .They should do what some departments in westchester do already, dual department response.
  14. I think it is about time for this issue to rest. I was a member of the department in question. I know how active the volunteers used to be. Turk was one of the most active volunteers before he got hired to the paid staff. Most of the volunteers got hired. Thats where most some of the volllies went. Some, like myself moved away. They went through a lull in membership. I will not hide behind this website, most know who I am. I am mechanic and fix all of their rigs, work along side a warden in the department, so I know whats going on. I am just stating the facts. Its just good that in this day and age, where volunteerism is on the decline, that they are now supporting their paid staff better now than in recent years. Thanks to all that contributed to this thread. Some how this topic went from Port Chester Ladder 31 to this topic. It will be delivered soon. THE END.
  15. They are qualifying to drive and operate the rig. It will respond to as a second ladder to all schools and large structures when a list is completed. This info came directly from a Warden of the department. You can say whatever you want, but the vollies are getting active and people will just have to deal with it.
  16. I personally know thre qualified driver of Ladder 26 who is training 3 to 4 other drivers at this time. They go out usually every Sunday. This rig will be staffed by volunteers when enough members get qualified. It is good to see the members of Rye getting more active now that both houses have finished construction and the volunteers have their own rigs again.
  17. I feel sorry for those departments, hopefully thet have an escape clause
  18. Thanks for the pic , hope you're feeling better.
  19. I think you mean Ladder 26.
  20. Are the ALF 's still being worked on or are they just sitting there partialy assembled?
  21. Investigate that issue further.
  22. It would better than what they have now! Rye is constantly covering for them because TL24 is always going out of service. Another dept with Sutpen problems.
  23. Rye always had a paid driver and waited for a tillerman. In 2001 ,with the purchase of a rearmount, they dont have to wait anymore. Ladder 26 is a volunteer rig.
