  1. Departments have to be very careful, unless your drafting water from pond, ect... they are probably using a municipal or private fire hydrant. This may be viewed as a theft of water as it is not being used for fire protection purposes. So departments have to make sure they are not "stealing" water to profit from the pool filling and if the department is a fire district where tax money is used to purchase / upkeep the apparatus they should also use caution accepting donations to the company side. This is where careful documentation about "drills" and "donations" must be made. After all, you can't always practice water shuttles...

I'm sure a lawyer would have a field day with this regardless.

  2. What EMS agencies have turnout gear for their members? What EMS agencies have some on the buses for crews to use? What are the SOPs for its use?

Beacon Volunteer Ambulance just got turnout gear as part of the fire grants. each member is issued a helmet, turn out coat and pants and a pair of extrication gloves. We have the Morning Pride USAR rated gear. The gear can be used on all calls.

Mamaroneck village approves $8.9 million for new fire house

    The Journal News

    By CANDICE FERRETTE

    (Original publication: January 10, 2007)

MAMARONECK — The village’s Board of Trustees approved a bond resolution for about $8.9 million to fund a new fire house on Palmer Ave.

The new structure will house the Hook and Ladder Company, currently located on Mamaroneck Ave. in addition to the existing Mamaro Engine Company.

The average homeowner should expect to pay about $112 more per year for an average property assessment of $15,000, village clerk said.

The total amount authorized for the project is $10.2 million.

The 4-1 vote, taken at Monday’s meeting, set in motion plan to raze the old firehouse building on Palmer and Mount Pleasant Avenues to build a larger 23,000-foot building.

Mayor Phil Trifiletti said plans for a new fire house have been discussed for the last 12 years.

“This is a fire house designed for the next hundred years — not just the next 10 years,” Trifiletti said.

Subolo Contracting Corp. of Pleasantville is expected to be hired as general contractor for the project.

The project is scheduled to begin by the end of February and should take about 13 months to finish, Trifiletti said.

The new fire house will have room to accommodate more than four trucks.

The village currently has five fire houses for an all-volunteer fire department of about 220 firefighters.

  4. my sympathy goes to the engineer who has to live with this, not to the victim.

I totaly agree, look at the nightmares he will have the rest of his life! He should sue the family for thepain and suffering that he has because of this.

    (Like that's gonna happen)

  5. you also have at least now Breaking New Network or other pay subscriptions pagers services.

BNN & 1st Responder Wireless News all rely on people with scanners to be able to put jobs out.

I think encryption is what will do scanners in or new laws.

Look at the SWN network NY is having put in place, thankfully most counties are not switching over to that for everyday operations. Most will use it as a inter county communications where they can patch channels together. but the object is these channels is they can not be monitored on any scanner and may never be able too since it's a proprietary system.

    Only time will tell.

  6. the only other added stuff is a Whelen 8 bank power pack for my lights, a MTX amp for my sub-woofer, a Kenwood radio and A Sirius receiver.  I do not get any engine noise through the regular radio, Sirius or the sub amp.

I usually can figure this out but right now I need help and at a loss.

Get rid of the Sirius radio, that thing must draw alot!

    JK...

  7. Great Shots! A friend of mine also got great shots. I am kicking my self for not going, but with my luck and the 45 minute travel it would have been out!

Great job for the 2 guys who documented the job!

A crew from Fairview remained overnight and they were to demolish the building this morning. ohmy.gif

Yea they did have great food and views there.

  8. Wheelchair-bound Monticello man rescued from fire

    By Heather Yakin

    Times Herald-Record

    December 23, 2006

Monticello — Charlie Tate's guardian angels wore dark blue uniforms. They carried radios on their belts. And when disaster struck at Tate's place at Liberty Street Apartments in Monticello, an ambulance served as their chariot.

Just after 8 a.m. yesterday, a burning candle on Tate's nightstand fell over. In a split second, the wooden table caught fire.

Tate, who uses a wheelchair, pushed his medical alert button to signal an emergency to an alarm company.

He tried to wheel himself out of the apartment, but ended up on the floor, the wheelchair wedged in the narrow hallway, as smoke billowed above him.

Meanwhile, Sullivan County E-911 sent Mobile Medic paramedic Svetlana Egorova and EMT Jason Welton to the emergency call at Tate's address.

"When we got there, we saw the smoke coming out of the top of the door," Welton said.

"We could hear him screaming," Egorova said. "He was screaming for help."

Welton kicked in the door and crawled into the apartment, feeling his way through black smoke that filled the rooms to within a few inches of the floor.

"You couldn't see a foot in front of you," Egorova said. "It was thick, thick, thick."

She radioed for fire assistance, and kept talking so Welton could find the way back out.

Twice he had to retreat outside to catch his breath, but then he went back in.

The third time in, Welton found Tate. He wrestled with the wedged wheelchair and dragged Tate toward the door.

But the smoke was too much. Welton had to get back outside to fresh air.

Egorova went in and pulled Tate outdoors. Then she and Welton dragged him away from the building.

By now, the fire department had arrived, and quickly put out the fire. Assistant fire Chief Mark Friedland said it damaged the nightstand, and little more.

The EMTs took Tate to Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, where he was treated for smoke inhalation. Then they went back to work, to finish out their 11-hour shift.

"I'm very proud of them," said Mobile Medic CEO Albee Bockman. "They did a wonderful thing."

Later, outside the apartment, people gathered around Tate's charred nightstand.

One of them was Mattie Anderson, executive director of the Monticello Housing Authority, which runs Liberty Street Apartments. She said Tate was still at the hospital, and that his relatives were there with him.

"He's a fortunate man," Anderson said.

  10. The hub bub on the street is the v.p. of Wendy's was there and this coming week demolishing will begin and a new Wendys will be up by spring.

  11. A request for a 10-35 is a request for off duty career FIREFIGHTERS and volunteer staff to return to the station.  In the Fairview Fire District a 10-35-1 is for 1 firefighter and 1 officier.  A 10-35-2 is for 2 firefighters and 1 officer.

10-35's in other career departments will bring different amounts of manpower depending on each departments SOP.

10-35's are requested when there are incidents that have prolonged scene times, during mutual aid calls in an attempt to cover our own district, etc.

bil14ga is correct, The City of Beacon and Fairview are the only one's in Dutchess that still use the 10-35 code.

Other codes in use in Dutchess are:

    10-4 - acknowledge transmission

Code 1 - drive normal to the call

    Code 3 - lights / siren

Priority 1, 2, 3, 4 levels for EMS response. 1 being critical, 4 being minor

  12. Deputy Chief Monte Fielder said when firefighter Jason Dickey saw the man backing up toward Fielder, he began banging on the hood of his Mercedes SUV to try to get him to stop. Morell then put the vehicle in forward, knocked Fielder down and took off through the back of a driveway and into the field behind a house, looping around Wilson Avenue houses in an attempt to come out on another part of the street, fire officials said.

His path was blocked by a Cohanzie ambulance."

"At the time, there was only one Waterford police officer on the scene and the driver apparently resisted arrest, leading three firefighters to jump on the man to aid the officer in making the arrest, fire officials said."

    %&%**#@#%#$& rich mother #$%^#$^!!!

I hope this guy gets some prison time and then have to scrub every emergency vehicle and fire station!

    Is your meeting that important?

He must have been really fighting the cop if the firefighters had to tackle him.
