  1. I always though the same thing x635. If a Dept. is offering its members Physicals why not make it mandatory or at least offer the flu shot. Makes sense, especially for those Municipalities who b**** and moan about covering S/L with OT.
  2. Where's the "Brotherhood"? Gone!. It all comes down to "personalities" now and to some extent rightly so. If a guy has been a POS from Day 1, who couldn't give a rats ass about the Job or his fellow so called "Brothers" why should they in turn give a s*** about him now in his time of need. I see it all to often even at wakes and funerals for retired members. Nobody comes out anymore either because they didn't work with or know the individual(no excuse) or they were a scumbag while on the Job(justified)! Not saying this is the case here cause I don't know either of the individuals but Im sure many of us don't and shouldn't rush to Judgement. No excuse for the dead animal though that's definitely not warranted especially for the guys family.
  3. Been preaching exactly this for yrs. Snotty! 100% correct and Ive seen it first hand on numerous occassions come back to bite a Dept. and unfortunately the taxpayers they swore to protect right in their arses! Unfortunately once such a great Job filled with "Tradition" has become nothing more then that. A Job! JMO
  4. Your lucky Career Depts. follow the Standards never mind Volunteer Depts. Some Career Depts. should first worry about changing and raising their Standards to get appointed to the Job. You can have all the Standards you want but toss them out the window if 'Incompetence" is throughout your Dept.. and these Standards aren't followed.
  5. And who's implying they shouldn't?
  6. The books are just a guide. Gotta remain flexible and be able to think out of the box on occassion when difficult circumstances arise.
  7. Barry 100% correct, but let's not forget those Career/Combo Depts. that backfill with O.T. to replace those that went m/a to your Dept. or other Career Depts. that are making these cuts. Once again where's the "Brotherhood" and Union Solidarity? Not!!!
  8. Maybe a Jurisdiction shouldn't have to pay for a 207A members medical expenses after they're granted Disability. Right or wrong it's a Business fellows and that's how people look at it.
  9. "QTIP"! Nobody said I was even talking about you. I get tired of the argument of "your taking food out of my family's mouth. Don't like guys Volunteering next to you switch Depts. and don't work for a Combo Dept. Guys I know who Volunteer do so cause their heart is into it and don't want to see their taxes go up to fund a Career Dept. that catches only a handful of Jobs a year anyway. yet these same individuals will run home after their tour and head straight for their neighborhood Firehouse where they Volunteer and then use the lame ass excuse "Well there's no Career guys in my Dept.. Gee I wonder why?
  10. I always like the Career guys who are anti Vollie but Volunteer in their home towns. Why? Because deep down inside they're buffs but won't ever admit it especially once they go "Paid"! Or the other reason is they want to keep their taxes down to which I say "HYPOCRATE!" As I always say nowadays anybody can put an IAFF sticker on their car and call themselves a so called "Professional". "Professional" my balls!
  11. What I can't believe is that there is actually a discussion about this. R U effin kidding me? Who the "F" cares fellows call it as you see it!
  12. Not if they wanted to get back at you for something.
  13. How about if they ask her for her number?
  14. I think this forum should have been titled "Botherhood" then "Brotherhood" it's more appropriate! LMAO! If anybody gets a chance Google Comedian Adam Corollas take on the youth of today it's exactly what we're talking about! He hits the nail right on the head! It's an interview dealing with the Occupy Wall Streeters. He puts it perfectly!
  15. I think Firemoose827 it's because of the World we now live in where like many have said you can't offend anyone anymore and have to constantly be "politically correct" for fear of being sued and labeled a racist. Tradition in the F/S is practically dead which is sad. Like one member posted in the other forum also, everyone now receives a trophy and as a result can not accept failure and to be told their no good at something and if they are will head right to the powers to be to complain. This all trickles down to the moral on the job where nobody wants to participate in anything anymore. Another big reason why I see the Brotherhood disappearing is because of the quality of individuals Depts. are hiring. Depts. now seem to be more concerned with "Quantity" then "Quality" for fear again of being labeled racist/biased towards certain individuals and groups and have lowered their "STANDARDS" to attract these individuals. As a result those members who are 100% dedicated towards their Profession get discouraged having to work with these incompetent individuals who for the most part are just there for a paycheck and don't want to associate with them either on or off the Job, especially when these individuals don't get reprimanded for their unacceptable actions/mistakes on and off the Job but almost seem to be rewarded and left alone. After awhile it gets discouraging to those who really do care and try and do the" right" thing and as a result everyone is out for themselves and the "Brotherhood" is now in the toilet. JMO
  16. 100% correct, and this is also why our new called "Senior Men" are not the "Senior Men" of 20 + yrs ago. Many are just as lazy and don't lead by example anymore or take the bull by the horns and pass their bad habits onto the Junior men and encourage them to do the same. "Tradition" in the Fire Service is becoming a thing of the past unfortunately. The Job has become nothing more then a paycheck!
  17. I know many Career Chiefs that have gotten that position because they were the "popular guy" or the only one who "volunteered" for the Job! How about raising the 'bar" to get accepted and meet some specific standards and not worry as much about 'quotas" and offending certain groups! Let's begin moving forward in this manner by hiring the most qualified to be able to actually carry out that "Oath" we recite! Whatta ya say?
  18. Hey guys one never knows. Id love to know the nature though of the EMS call. It would be pretty sad if it was a b/s run and there was a delay as a result.
  19. Maybe spend less $$$$ on bells and whistles and equipment you really don't need and think of going Career. I think the time has come.
  20. Mant Depts. are lucky if they have enough guys to get the 1st hoseline in operation quickly and provide f/e and adequate and proper ventilation in a timely fashion so I can understand. Maybe if Depts could meet the above, along with hiring competent and able individuals to carry out same, and not lower their standards to meet an objective, "quotas" there'd never be a need for FAST/RIT teams. Let's face it fellows, Im sure if you did a little research many FF injuries and LODs were caused by complacency, human error, and even incompetence. Id rather see guys train just as much on getting the 1st hoseline charged as well as performing proper ventilation and strategy and tactics. I can't understand why so many people are so worried about who and how many ffs are standing by as a FAST/RIT while you have one guy stretching 6 lengths of hose by himself to a 4th fl JOB. But hey everything's Ok we have 4 guys responding in as our FAST/RIT. I've on numerous occassions also seen important jobs not getting done cause th IC is more concerned with having his FAST/RIT out front to cover his ass and have it on record, while the skeleton crew inside whose already taxed is left to perform these vital functions. Now Im not saying it's not needed cause yes there's always the chance of the unforseen occurring, but many times I guarantee it us as ffs that put ourselves and others in a situation that requires a FAST/RIT to be deployed. Stick to your Basics and your SOP's and most importantly put the fire out as fast as possible and everything else will generally get better and there wont be a need for FAST/RIT. Remember, as many FDNY Chiefs have always stated, a properly positioned and charged hoseline will save more lives then and ladder will. JMO
  21. While I agree whole heartedly about this topic I feel it's just as important to have some degree of high standards to be able to even join a Dept. whether it be Career or Volunteer. Do we really need to be working next to a highly trained criminal? It's time to raise the Bar and not turn the Fire Service into a handout Job. Better Sceening and an Interview process is just as important! JMO.
  22. The Horses s*** in the Station cause the Truckies never left quarters and the only time they shut the door after the Engine goes out for EMS is if it's before 11pm! It's all good though buddy!
  23. Sorry Brother but I have to take exception to this post. While covering both Engine and Truck Companies for close to 30yrs I must say "Truckies" truly are nothing but a Fireman's Helper. Your still Loved though! I'm always concerned for my Brother "Ladderman" about the inside stream striking them on the outside when they're taking windows! No seriously you Truckies are awesome you always have fresh cold bottles of water for us Engine Grunts when we come out for a "Blow" and a spare bottle waiting for us. "Tally Ho" Bro!
