  1. Well, it had to happen sooner or later. This weekend, the old blue eyed weirdo will be getting himself married. It's been an interesting trip to say the least. I just hope when all is said and done, it's worth all the aggravation me and my fiance have had to deal with over the past year or so. For you married guys out there, I will see you on the other side of the rainbow. For you single guys out there, I will let you know what it's like. And for all you buffs out there, I will let you know what the Honolulu Fire Department is like. See y'all in a few weeks. And for TBendick, thank you for tolerating my drunk @$$ the other night.

yo man there is always plan "B" I was almost plan B ed myself......congrats

  2. Hello every1 did not realize this topic was here, awesome way to get to know every1 though u never realize who u know.......sup doug......any way my name is Paul Casson Jr I have been an E.M.T. since yes believe it or not the age of 16 ( in nj u can be a tech @ 16) I am currently a member of Monroe Vac in orange county NY and I work for FDNY EMS Division 2 Batt 17 I work the 2 bussiest bus in the bronx and the first only does between 2 and 3 more jobs a month than my unit (17H3) the unit I am on is a haz tach ambulance which means I put on a level A haz mat suit as an emt and carry the decon equipment on the bus, scott packs and all, as of todays date I have an application in to be an instructor @ the FDNY EMS Academy and am hoping to complete the practical test by next week (I Have already passed the written portion) I have past experience as a vol firefighter for 5 yrs but have not the time for it any more due to the fact that some 1 has to pay my bills sooooo thats a little about me I have been on the job w/FDNY about 4 yrs :D

  3. Show a young person respect, and they'll give it back two-fold.

When i'm taught w/ respect i give it back 50 fold as 1 of those past and probaly older "hyper Juniors" and now an instructor I can tell u the "older" members who took the time to "Teach" me and not belittle me got so much more in return, people need to learn: to get respect 1 must give it. Yes i agree people must learn their place but if u approach the situation w/ respect for the individual and the fact that they are eager to learn then both parties will benifit. I tell u from first hand experience that those who gave me no respect got none.......while the end result rarely benifited me i still stuck to my morals and gave what i got AND GAVE IT BACK TEN FOLD AS FAR AS RESPECT so what we all need to do is remember we all are human and make mistakes and the ways of old (chastizing and belitliting) don't work any more, treat junior members as adults and they Will REALIZE THEIR PLACE. O and not every 1 agrees w/ everything that is said, like babies, juniors need to learn from their mistakes in propper fashion You would not yell @ a baby for getting up to learn to walk and falling NO....U help them up and teach them u encourage them in a proper manner.......I believe i have made my point.......

  4. I'm a member of movac in orange cty I believe every corps in orange cty seems to having this problem 1 way or another the last hold out like walkill have paid daytime crews during the day now. I personaly have moved to middletown and volly in monroe 1 time per week and scheduled weekend shifts i cant afford housing in harriman woodburry or monroe town/village it's insane the prices of the shacks that are out there and i work in the south bronx as a paid tech I and my wife who are emt's would love to be back in monroe but it's impossible to start my life in an area w/ the huge home increases so don't think ur alone in this we definately need to come together and fight this @ the local level or we'll never get to be a volly agency's again. every 1 living here are people from the city and assume we get paid anyway other than that i really don't know what to say, set up mtgs with local corps and bring the problem to the newspaper power in numbers u know feel free to mail me personaly

  5. i think the FDNY's biggest problem with their EMS division is the whole promotionary move to Firefighter. From what ive heard personally is that they see anyone from EMS moving to fire as getting a handout instead of having to go balls to the wall in an open competitive. Alot of FFs also feel strongly that the city should bring back NYC EMS because EMS and Fire are very different jobs.

ok where is the hand out?......the only "perk" is that instead of goin on a list w/ 30,000 other people is we go on a list of possible 200 people because we already work for the dept i still needed to pass the same physical i still needed to pass the same written and i still need to pass the same medical stair master heart rate so i am wondering y the fireman feel the emser's are the enemy? all we are looking for is the same pay and job security they have, and if some 1 is goin to bring up the point that u can still fail 2 physical agaility tests and get a bad score on the written i can tell u now now 1 is willing to get on the job @ any less of a score than the last guy because they would be marked for life so the people goin the "back door" are just as respectiful of the job as any 1 else

  6. It's been 10 years since the merge. It really depends on who you ask. From my end, we have a good working relationship. Some units out there have good relationships with each other. Other times it's not so pleasant. I think it will eventually get better, it's going to take a little more time.

What on-scene fight were you referring to??

i'm not sure which borough queens brooklyn where the firefighter spat a racial slur @ the ems employee now i'm sure there's more to the story there always is but it needs to be kept off of scenes and the news paper the dept has enough problems being no raise has been givin to ems employees in 44 months

  7. i myself work in the nyc ems 911 system for a voluntary hospital.  i work side by side with fdny fire dept and ems and from what i see both sides get along fine.  we have different job descriptions.  When it is a high priority call such as trauma, cardiac arrest etc an engine is assigned and the guys are always really helpful.  so in the long run i don't see any problems.

I work the s bronx on a haz tac unit for the majority of the time I have had no problems but a few instances where my ems abality needed to stop the improper practices of a firefighter don't get me wrong plenty of friends who are on the other side some even my old partners and thats where I want to be but seems as if a couple of bad eggs spoil the bunch and I was looking for other peoples experiences

  8. Just wondering how the guys and girls feel about people from the ems side moving over to fire. I know the people working haztac ambulances get lots of respect from fire but can't say thats true of everyone else. I want to hear how everyone really feels, this is a real hot topic considering people have been fighting on scenes and it's in the public eye now and not just an in house thing....
