  1. Yes TurboRich, it is a loaner rescue for the time being and is running as 63-51 till the real unit is done with some much needed repairs and fitting of the newly aquired FireAct Grant provided Hurst Tools. This loaner will be running as 63-51 for a few more weeks.
  2. No Mark, they are just changing his air bottle... You know it is that more hands makes for easier work therory... LOL
  3. Good job, do what is necessary to protect your people, you are in charge of them and responsible for them.... Maybe next time remind the Trooper of his (2) fellow Troopers that were hit on I84 not more than a couple months ago and 1 even serious enough to be flown out to a Trauma center, then maybe he/she will think differently. Be Safe, Stay Safe and of course keep your People Safe.....
  4. All FIRES go out eventually, whether it be a small fire snuffed out by a lack fo oxygen to survive off or the one that goes without the fire department ever responding and it burns up all the combustible materials. All FIRES will eventually go out, with or without fire departments help. Really good thing that the individual that found the remians of that fire didn't maybe open the door a couple hours earlier, or they may have been charcoal today.
  5. Well Plectron, at least your depart. has something and they have it in all riders seats. Here in my dept. the only ones with Class 2 vests that will meet the standard in Nov., when it becomes the law, are the Fire Police, I guess better than nothing but still non-complaint with the new complete standard. I think everyone should have these vests, although I do not believe everyone in the the dept. should be issued them. The best case scenario is that every seat on the vehicle should have one and a few extras in a compartment for use by those that the IC deems to be in a position of need. Remember that the standard does allow for those in active fire supression mode to not need them and anyone with 360 degree coverage of 3" or better width reflective trim on turnout gear to be exempt. Whatever the decision or anyones personnel beliefs, "Let's all just STAY SAFE AND RETURN HOME after the alarm is over."

  7. I think this untaken by the explorer post of the Fairview Fire Company should be commended for their action to retake and restore the old HRPC Ladder truck. The beauty of these old ALF's exhibt the dying breed of good fire appartaus from the early days of firefighting. You guys there in Fairview go, you're doing a good job and keep it up. Looking forward to the completed project. Nice pics FFD941, I will get some newer ones in here soon.
  8. I must admit it was too funny.. I can't believe finally someone found a reason that chiefs have to be first in on calls.

  10. I can't say for sure, I believe that the 10-35 code was originated in Fairview years ago, maybe even before most of the folks on here were even alive. The 10-35 code has changed in Fairview over the years in meaning too. Originally it was as follows; 10-35-1 meant 1 off duty career firefighter return to duty to man the station. 10-35-2 meant 2 off duty career firefighters return to duty ro man the station. The shortly after the beginning of career officers in Fairview the following went into effect; 10-35-1 meant for 1 firefighter and 1 officer to return to duty to man the station. 10-35-2 meant for 2 firefighters and 1 officer return to duty to man the station. Now the 10-35 code is just that only 10-35 (no 1 or 2) and means that the entire oncoming group is called back to duty to man the station or be used wherever needed. A second alarm in Fairview is full recall off any available off duty personnel to return to duty and report in to the officer in charge. Other departments with career personnel have adopted the 10-35 codes as a means to recall their off duty personnel, btu I haven't a clue as to how those depts. work it.

  12. The problem in fire departments in NYS do not have to comply with anythign except what that individual department wants too. NYS is a state that relies solely on the AHJ (Authority Having Juristiction), another the home department deciding everything. For this reason we nothing but difference in every department across the state, or at least here in our county. So, now you also want to bring the departments up to date. I laugh at this, although I am very seriously in agreement with needing to bring depart. up to date.
