  1. There is a Standard for marking of Fire Hydrants... NFPA 291. Hydrants that flow- Less than 500 GPM= Red 500- 999 GPM= Orange 1000-1499 GPM= Green more than 1500 GPM= light blue This code only recommends that the bonnet be color coded. I don't recall, but I believe it recommends the barrell be painted yellow for visability.
  2. 10-4, K..
  3. A Seagrave Lo-Pro may fit, however that would only be 1 and we would rather have more than 1 bid, to compare and look at. The new "Stick" will probally be a center-mount. As far as a "Helicopter" goes 80-Air-1 was around in 1996 (I believe)! The Distorter Reporter (oops- Reporter Dispatch) covered a story of an airplane crashing into the Muscoot Reservoir, striking high-tension power lines and killing 2(?) boaters, during our Annual Inspection, of course. The paper reported Stat-Flight as a Somers Fire District Helicopter! Remind me- I'll show you the article!!
  4. NOT HAPPENING!!! No way 183 can even make it into the woods. To many conversions to make on an 8 year old vehicle! You've been hanging around too many other people with wild ideas!! :-P Not gonna happen either- 1. A rear mount can't fit in 3 out of our 4 houses. 2. We only spec 1500 gpm pumps. As far as a replacement Mini-Attack, I'm not letting the "Cat out of the Bag" yet, as to what we may be looking at. I will tell you that it will be a unique vehicle again, and may look very similiar to the current MA-13 (body wise). Of course, a few people are just thinking right now- committee has not been formed or met yet.
  5. Im working today and tomorrow at FTC, so hopefully I can get them downloaded and sent to Seth, either Tues night or Wed morning. Sorry for the delay, I've been a bit busy!
  6. During the same meeting, a committee was ordered formed to spec a new "initial attack vehicle". This new MA will replace both current brush trucks. Seeing how the politicians in Somers, keep allowing all this construction, our woodlands are becoming non-existant. We no longer have the need for 2 Brush Trucks. For the amount of Brush Fires we have, it is felt that an Initial Attack Vehicle would better suit the growing needs of the town. This vehicle could then function as a source pumper, brush truck, small fire (car/dumpster), EMS 1st Response (if the Ambulance ever separates from the FD). As far as keeping it, we just don't have enough room left in the Firehouses to keep it, with the addition of the new Engine, something had to go!!
  7. Other than the county radios- everything else is ahead of scheduale. Almost all the equipment is in, and what's not here, is ordered and should be here by the time the training is finished, and put in service. I have a couple of new pics, I'll see about getting them posted.
  8. Don't go there with radios!! It was right on schedule with the county's new UHF system to be installed, now the county delayed again!!!!!! So we have to put an old radio in, and wait another 5-6 months for the "New" county radios.
  9. Committee went to KME on Monday for the final inspection. Looking Good!!! The new Engine 185 is expected to be in New York tomorrow night and in Somers early next week! "Westchester's 1st KME Preditor"

  16. Where did Quad 8 go? I saw it in Croton, 2 years ago. I thought the Dept still owned it then.
  17. I saw it on Sunday. Excellent job- Yeah, there's some Hollywood, but overall- great movie, and protrays Firefighters correctly, not like the "Cowboy" Kurt Russell, or the "Drunk-Woman chasers" on Rescue Me. Good Job, worth spending the money to go see!!
  18. I think this posting should be corrected PROBIE, Trashed- meaning what?? This all out of fun, and a tradition that has been around since the 1950's between West Somers and East Yorktown!! There is no damage occuring in any of the Firehouses, or to equipment! I would like to challange West Somers to find, and attampt to retrieve the "KEY to Yorktown" that has been in Somers' possession since the 70's!!! If you even know what I'm talking about- and you get it- I'll Surrender!! :---)
  19. Engine 185- 90% complete- just back from the factory. Final Inspection trip- 10/18. Expected to be delivered to Ruscon on 10/23. Seth was sent Spy shots, I forgot his Ice Cream, so we'll see if he posts them!

  21. The KME All Aluminum. It's the new Preditor, in which the cab is only made out of aluminum. So we decided to keep it all the same materials. We also started a new apparatus replacement program, so the Engines are being replaced every 10 years. We are purchasing a new pumper every 2 years. With this we are able to get a decent trade-in or re-sale value. These bids were for a 1500 GPM with 1000 Gal Booster Tank, MFD Cab, 8kw Hydraulic Generator, all disc brakes, and aluminum wheels, not to many frills! NO FOAM TANKS- we are getting away from them!
