  1. Who cares about the looks? Mid mounts have their purpose; height issues being one of them..... and it isn't always a firehouse issue either...... bridges have been known to create height problems for apparatus too. I.e. they are too low. There have to be some benefits to mid mount aerials.... why else would most companies that build rigs be re-entering that market????? Forget looks, functionality is what matters. Nuff said .
  2. There is no definative list. Try doing a google search with the make and year year of the truck you are looking to find.... you might also type in your departments name with the other info..... for instance: "1959 Maxim" & Yourtown Fire Department Also, SPAMFAA (sp?) Prints a list every year of apparatus owned by members. This spread sheet usually lists the trucks original owner. Send me a Private Message with the info and I'll check the list and I'll send you the info to join SPAMFAA.
  3. I just saw on line that Valhalla sold their 1992 Pierce Lance pumper, the same website had their 1987 Pierce Lance for sale...... are they purchasing two engines?
  4. A really good turnout tonight, thank you to all who came out. Thank you to all the members of the Bedford Fire Department who made tonight possible! Great Job Gang!
  5. As I have mentioned before..... DON"T FORGET TURKEY NIGHT!!!!!!!!!
  6. The airport has to shut down if one fire truck leaves to go mutual aid? Why? Because of staffing? Should there be a centralized foam truck maybe kept at 60 Control? Why would they send the 4th CFR rig to Mt Vernon? Do they have a huge need for a crash truck down there? Maybe it should be kept in Valhalla where it would be easier to get to the Northern parts of the county.
  7. TURKEY!!!!!!
  8. November 22 2004 7:00 Pm till Turkeys Run OUT Sponsored by Bedford FD Village Green Bedford NY 10506 DON'T FORGET TURKEY NIGHT! Keep this thread running.
  9. Don't forget Turkey Night at the Bedford Village Fire House! Please try to keep this thread up and current so everyone sees it. It will mean a lot to this family. Thanks a bunch.
  10. Ummmmm...... They have three trucks right? Are you telling me that if they send one truck to a major incindent that requires large amounts of foam that they then have to stop incoming flights? That sounds obsurd! What are the chances that just as one trucks goes to fight a fire the others will break? I think one of those trucks is a spare..... a back up unit..... a truck can be pressed into service if needed..... I could be wrong. Or fine, then keep the spare there, and send a front line truck for all I care. I hope that they could manage without one truck for a period of time. But I think that if that you are right, and they cannot send a unit then the county needs to consider obtaining a foam unit that could available at a moments notice to go somewhere other than the airport!
  11. I think it is important to remember the CFR trucks at Westchester County Airport as a viable resource for incidents such as this. I think that they have three rigs if I am not mistaken, one rig I think is a spare/back-up unit. That truck could be sent mutual aid to local Westchester County Departments facing large scale incidents.
  12. I am interested in seeing how many departments in Westchester have printed/published journals on their history for anniversaries/or significant events. I think these are great resources for local researchers trying to.... oh I don't know, say list all of the retired fire appartatus (Motorized) in Westchester; but also a great tool to help the community see how their protection has progressed over time. What do you think?
  13. Found this yesterday on line.... I know it says it's a Hahn, but it is an Oren. This was Mamaro's Truck prior to the purchase/delivery of their current Spartan/RD Murray. This truck made it's way up to NH.... not too shaby looking, enjoy. http://www.nefirenews.org/ne/EastonNHE1.jpg http://www.nefirenews.org/ne/EastonNHSta1.jpg
  14. Nice to here some restoration is in order for the Oren.
  15. The engines being replaced are not all that old, what was the cause for such early replacement?
  16. Actually, the 1930 Ahrens Fox, model G-W-60-4, Reg. # 5051 was purchased from Lakeview Long Island at one point.
  17. Thanks for the interest and concern. I'll see what I can find out from the family this weekend and get some info for you and the board posted. Again, thank you for the support.
  18. Just wanted to remind everyone that if you want to buy a lobster dinner, the orders need to be placed by 9/21 (that's tomarrow,Tuesday). This will be a really great meal for a really great cause! I hope maybe some of you like lobster and will help support this cause. Thank you for your support!
  19. I want to know if there was a journal printed for the anniversary, and if so, could someone help me to obtain 2 copies for the collections at the Westchester County Historical Society? Thanks for the help.
  20. That top photo is really great! Yes, that's Larchmont's old Brockway rescue and next to it is Weaver Street's old ALF Tiller! Great shots! I really enjoyed the album! I vaguely remember the musters at the dam... boy they were great!
  21. Purchase has a 1956 Seagrave Quad..... Thornwoods is a Ford Model T Hose Hauler..... Valhalla has a Maxim Patrol........ Ridgefield CT. just across the boarder had at one point a 1927 or 1928 Seagrave Suburbanite City Service Truck.... not sure if they still maintain that unit or not. I suppose the reason more department's don't maintain antique ladder trucks is because of spacial issues...... they are often very large!
  22. Katonah maintains a 1928 ALF Type 75 Pumper (Engine 114) and also a 1874 Hand Pumper that I believe was built by Cowans....... As a side note Katonah's 1935 Mack and 1939 Seagrave are still in existance...... our 1924 Dodge Chemical Car is rumored to still be n the area as well..............
  23. Uh...... Chevy Deluxe 30 I think you mean...... oh, and the answer is false, they jumped.
  24. Has Rye Brooks career fire department been staffed during the evenings in the past? I thought they currently only provided coverage during the day..... or has that changed? Also, how many paid firefighters are on the staff, 4, 5 6?
  25. Mott Haven was in the Town of Morrisania, part of what is now the South Bronx. Begining in 1874 with Morrisania most what was then southern Westchester began voting on annexation by NYC. Our county derives it's name from the Town of Westchester also now part of the Bronx. West Farms a village in southern Westchester formed the first fire company in the Bronx section of Westchester in 1851. Prior to the organization of the West Farms company the closest protection was in Harlem!!!! Morrisanian's formed their first company "Lady Washington" later that year. By 1856 there were fire companies in Mott Haven, Melrose, and Morrisania that were incorporated into a "new" Morrisania Town Fire Department". This bunch was well known for the fierce rivalry that raged between the companies; a factor that would ultimately lead to community leaders decisions to be annexed in 1874 by NYC, in hopes of recieving better protection. Ultimately, Ossining was the first fire company formed in Westchester County dating back to 1812. I have a good deal of info on this subject that I have researched in depth. I will post the dates of organiztion for all W.C. fire companies when I get to work tomarrow. Until then, I hope this helps.
