  3. Good Morning America had Henry's parents on Friday morning. THEY stated that they do not want this to be about race! They just want all the facts truthfully so they can put this horrible occurance in prespective and try as a family to get through it. The father said he does not want people coming forward with half truth's, lies etc. He just wants the truth period.

Well, I guess the search for the truth, much like OJ's search for the "real killers", is over...

Lawyer: Pace student killing was murder

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The police killing of a college football player was "nothing short of intentional murder," a lawyer for the student's family said Thursday as he renewed his demand for an independent prosecutor to investigate the off-campus shooting.

Attorney Michael Sussman's charge was an escalation of his previous comments on the Oct. 17 killing of 20-year-old Danroy "D.J." Henry. Witness accounts of the shooting have differed sharply, and a grand jury is investigating.

  4. Grumpy-thanks for posting buddy. I have visited twice, the first time while my high school band was in Hawaii ( and none of my fellow bandmates understood the significance) and once in the Air Force. While going over to Ford Island to catch a helo out to one of the islands for a range clearance, I passed by the berth where my Grandfather's battleship was anchored during the attack (down by where the Missouri is now). His Captain saved the ship, as it was listing and getting ready to capsize while in the harbor. The Captain ordered all ballast tanks to be blown, causing the ship to right itself from the list and settle on the bottom. The USS California was taken to Washington state for repairs and actually fought a couple of the final battles in 1945,

  5. ‎69 years ago today, a territory of the United States and other land masses and countries throughout the Pacific Ocean were attacked by surprise by the forces of the Japanese Navy and Army. The United States Army and Navy suffered great losses at many bases throughout the Islands of Hawaii. Please take a moment today and remember those who gave their lives that day....

    Rest in Peace:

    BMC Frank Kuhlow

SMN Raymond Kuhlow (Retired as a WO4)

Both survived that day of infamy, and continued to serve their country for many years after...

  6. Some firefighters live out of state

    SALvador, Register

    Orange County Register (California)

    November 28, 2010

If there's a major disaster, officials at the Orange County Fire Authority might have trouble getting all their firefighters to return quickly to their stations.

That's because some active members of the department live in Colorado, Utah, Texas, Illinois and Washington state.

OCFA Engineer Lloyd Pinel, for example, would have to wait for the next available flight from Third Lake, Ill. The 21-year veteran's home is a 30-minute drive from Lake Michigan but more than a three-hour flight from his station in Buena Park.

  10. When Steve Wilcox and the crew from the Hemet Fire Department rolled up to the mobile home on Sept. 20, it seemed like this would be just another ordinary call for one of the busiest fire departments in the area.

Dispatch had informed them that inside, there was a woman who had taken too many pills and was overdosing. There was no immediate danger and no weapons reported when the 911 call came in.

Moments later, Wilcox was reminded that no matter how ordinary a call might seem, anything can happen.

The firefighter, who has been with the HFD for just over a year, became trapped in a room with the patient who suddenly brandished a gun toward the four firemen who were there to assist her. Wilcox, without thinking, jumped on her, preventing her from potentially discharging the loaded firearm as the others escaped the room before he was finally able to do so himself.

  11. Saw this linked on Facebook today, surprised no one said anything...

    They're throwing them a bone.

Some city emergency medical technicians are "turfing out" low-priority 911 calls to nonprofit volunteer ambulance units in Queens, several sources told The Post.

That allows the nonprofits to pick up patients and receive payment -- money that otherwise would have gone to the city.

"Yeah, it happens. Some of the guys are turfing out calls to other guys who work for the community crews," said a longtime volunteer with a Queens community-ambulance team.

"It's only low-priority calls they don't want to take, or if they're really jammed up," the volunteer said. "They'll text or call a 'vollie' and say 'there's a pick-up on this street, you want it?' "

  14. According to the Hometown Heroes Survivors Benefit Act of 2003:

"The law presumes that a heart attack or stroke are in the line of duty if the firefighter was engaged in nonroutine stressful or strenuous physical activity while on duty and the firefighter becomes ill while on duty or within 24 hours after engaging in such activity."

    http://www.usfa.dhs.gov/fireservice/fatalities/statistics/index.shtm

Depending on the State, many disease processes are automatically considered as "job related" due to the nature of a firefighter's job. Cardiac, Lung, Stroke and Cancer are the big 4 that are usually covered due to the exposure one receives due to the job. We just had a firefighter from a local department here pass from Melanoma and it was considered Line of Duty.
