  1. Seems like every time that I go for an EMT refresher they change CPR.

Izz-AHA revises it's instructional standards every 5 years...

As an instructor, I've only heard about the changes, I have not seen the literature. That said, it takes approximately 8 compressions to prime the pump (heart), getting it to full capacity. Any stoppage in compressions you have to reprime the heart. That was the stated reason for the change to 30 compressions some time ago. As to the change to compression only CPR, it is felt that while doing compressions the change in the pressure in the chest cavity you are moving air in and out, rescue breathing only supplements that. It'll be interesting to actually hear about this when I go to the update meeting...

  2. Its pretty troubling that a person would put themselves (and others) in danger in order to heat their homes. Its also a sign of the economic times, which is even more troublesome.

Out here we get folks that think it's okay to use a barbeque to heat the house, not knowing (or not caring) that the charcol put out carbon monoxide, which can kill everyone in the house...

  4. Florida, especially Southern Florida and the Everglades have large problems with all kind of invasive species.

You should have killed it. They are invading the Everglades and destroying them. In a few years you will be snapping shots of many different species of constrictors sunning themselves. Huge problem in Florida now and will spread to entire Gulf Coast States soon. They are nothing more than hairless rats.

I remember watching a television show, it may have been Monster Quest, where the head of the reptile section of the Miami Zoo stated that a lot of these invasive species were lost out of the zoos during Hurricane Andrew due to the surge that basically went across the state. What may be in the Everglades and lower Florida are the "children" of those lost in 1994....

  5. I go to the County airport with my kids to watch the planed on a regular basis and out of all the times I have been there many times the County police have driven by buy NEVER once asked me what I was doing. There presence is known and thats all they can do. I am comfortable with our security but I also think we need to stop being paranoid.

and that type of comment is exactly why terrorist groups continue to attack us. They watch and know that the American public stays vigilant and angry for only a certain period of time, then gets complacient as they believe "nothing" has happened since the last attack. The Government is not going to announce every time one of their agencies thwarts another terrorist attack. The ones that get publicized are like the failed aircraft bombings by the "shoe" bomber and the "underwear" bomber, where a number of citizens witnessed the situation and it will hit the news.

there are many "homegrown" groups wanting to violently take down the United States. It's not just turban wearing prayer mat sitting Muslims. They are one of many groups, so when someone starts talking about terrorist attacks on US soil, they should not be the only ones identified.

  7. Firefighter/Paramedic James M. Owen, 56, of the Orange County Fire Authority died in the line of duty on September 16, 2010.

Firefighter/Paramedic Owen was participating in multi-company training at the Orange County Fire Authority Regional Fire Operations Training Center when he fell ill. Crews on scene immediately rendered care and while being assessed Owen went into a full cardiac arrest.

Advanced Life Support care was initiated and Firefighter Owen was transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana where he passed away from a cause still to be determined.

  8. Yeah, the problem is they have this stupid slot system at the airport to appease all the people who built mansions overlooking the airport who complain about noise. Gotta lov eit, build a mansion near an airport or within 20 miles of an airport's flight path and then complain about noise.

That is like here in San Diego. Airport has been there since about 1930 (the airport is on the land Lindbergh first tested The Spirit of St Louis), and back in the 70s folks to the west filed lawsuits. The airport authority settled, retrofitting many homes with better windows that blocked out sound, and soundproofed the homes. The folks living there still complain, and most of those have bought their homes in the last 30 years...You would think as busy as Lindbergh Field (San Diego International) is that jets would have flown over as they were looking at the home...:rolleyes:

  10. Looks like a sharp Spartan/Crimson tiller is being built for Jersey City. Anyone know what company and apparatus this will replace?

    http://www.crimson-fire.com/delivery.aspx?id=30424

good luck Mr Phelps...your mission, should you choose to accept it....

San Diego FD got one of the first TDAs that Crimson built...it's been out of service more than in service. Anaheim FD got 2, they are having some of the same problems as SDFD...I understand that it may be the specs, but as I understand most of the issues result from the build...

  11. It's the NEW "Top Secret EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle" for the new movie sequel "Stripes 2"!!!!

who would they get to play the 2 female MPs??? They just need to make sure they don't mind an ice cream scoop...

  12. I would guess an APC for SWAT? I doubt it would be military if it's a Pierce. You sure got a lot of good shots for not being allowed to photograph it, haha.

EDIT: The light bars also point towards it being SWAT/ESU and not military.

It's an Oshkosh Defense product-called the "Sandcat"-Tactical Protector vehicle. It's marketed toward LE/Homeland security

almost looks like a newer version of the old "Peacekeeper" that was/is still used by the military and Local SWAT Teams throughout the country. I'll see if I can dig up a photo of the one I drove while in the USAF...
