the explanation I was given when I went to a commissioners meeting after they failed to show up at my house when I had a fire was that Somers has "special situations" that only their dispatchers can understand and handle..oh, and someone needs to be there to watch the security cameras
-
wow..you mean we might actually get trucks at our fires..since cc will send mutual aid after Somers never responds
-
This is uncommon for Somers, I have never heard of them failing to cover a FD call. (I am not listening at ALL times, obviously)
Not as uncommon as you think. I had a fire at my house and they never showed..10 minutes after i called I got a chief with a landscapers truck..the head chiefs excuse..there was traffic..joke!

Not if we're lucky!!! Rangers suck!!! lol

well at least they are consistent..they covered the car too..had something similar to this several years back right across from HQ..lots of people in the house and all stacks covered..could have been ugly

I would tie some strings to him and carry him in the Thanksgiving parade
-
Its the same as some departments that list their response times as 3-4 minutes when that was actually when the Chief in his landscapers truck showed up..the rig shows 10 minutes later or more..or even worse..not at all
-
Remember him well. Nice guy, tough cop. We didnt like seeing him show up if we were doing something wrong as kids
-
bill, i understand what you mean about the misuse of man power... but, remember swift water rescues require many lines for operational use and saftey use...u need just mostly the same amount of man power for this type of rescue as you would an ice water rescue...in the video the reporter does say that the dog was in a hard place to get to.
My point is it never should have been a "swift water rescue" It was a dog. What are you doing dropping a guy out of a helicopter into a rain swollen river, putting his life on the line for a dog. Then to boot, he gets injured by the dog

Sure the number of personnel and equipment was large, but now look at the publicity and the positive light that the department is portrayed as. It may get a person to may make a donation or so to that department.
Good job
Certainly hope you never become an officer

Totally assinine! 50+ firefighters for an hour and a helicopter. Whoever was in charge of this operation should be called in on the carpet and read the riot act. Total misuse of manpower and resources as well as putting people in danger for what? A freaking dog

its a conflict of interest for any volunteer to also be a commissioner
-
Is Denzel gonna pick up the tab? lolNo, its not as important as school sports. How come you dont see anyone raising money for the school EDUCATION programs that got cut or any jobs that were cut

Politicians are the biggest hypocrites going. They tell you what you want to hear and then after they get elected they have short memories. They are all full of s***, every last one of them
-
I would imagine a career firefighter is also a member of the IAFF (although not guaranteed). Therefore, also being a volunteer firefighter is in itself hypocrisy.Well put!
-
Hey LTNRFD, for a retired career officer you sure do sound like one of those bitter quitting vollies from Larchmont. Though you might be a little smarter than that
-
Oh I forgot, that's right Playland only hires scabs, and angry dwarfs.Sounds like I hit a certain persons nerves. You know the old story, can give it out but cant take it
-
Gentlemen, thank you for your interest in Playland EMS. Unfortunately, I will not be able to hire you for the following reasons:
EFD184--Bedside manner leaves something to be desired (not everyone is on drugs!)
KBR359-- we will NEVER find a uniform to fit you
Demps121--the check reports only take 30 minutes and we dont wear hoods
Capt2102--we dont need a fire training center janitor
Fud27- Playland is alcohol free--no whine- and besides we wont make you lieutenant here either
Good luck in your future endeavors

As far as jumping from the cab while moving....yah, its wrong and shouldnt happen, but what was the pt's injuries? What level of care was the captain? BLS? ALS? Again, as is always the case with the members here, you are all making Assumptions that cant be backed up with fact. The point being made here...Was the arrest necessary? Could the officer and Captain have had a chat after the pt was cleared?
It should not matter what the condition the patient is in or what level of care the Captain is. In the video, the ambulance crew is already there rendering care. The Captain jumping out of the rig before it stops is careless, idiotic and should result in disciplinary action. There is NO reason for it, especially by a supervisor. As for the arrest, just plain ridiculous

That "chief" is a jackass
