  1. Buchanan Engine Company No.1 Inc is a private fire company that provides fire protection services to the Village through an annual contract. The apparatus and equipment is purchased with the payments from said contract. We are proud to be entering our third contract in a row with a zero percent increase- despite increased operating costs. Many years ago the Village board decided to set up a "capital vehicle replacement fund"- each budget year money is placed into an account to save for future apparatus purchases- thereby reducing the "shock" of a major apparatus purchase on the taxpayers. This has been very sucessful and will enable us to purchase the new Rescue-26 without raising our budget to the taxpayers once again. We probably have one of, if not the lowest budget in the county and and take pride in that. As for replacing a 40 year old piece of apparatus- does anymore need to be said? And no, NONE of our members are "torn" about it.

  2. This is a valid question. The answers are simple. Maybe some of the people posting and reading here don't known their departments' policy (if any) reguarding this subject. In that case they should ask. The smart thing to do is take this question(and the others that have been asked) and answer them for your specific department- If your department goes to parades or other events and does not have a viable plan to cover its obligations to the community- get one rolling!

  3. I'm not sure what features are not included with Fios, as far as on-screen caller ID it will be available shortly. As for pricing, when you call you just have to ask them to quote you EXACTLY what your monthly bill will be.I find FIOS is quite price-competitive. Internet wireless router is included and up/down speeds are rock solid- I get 35meg down and 32meg up- all day long. Also, Cablevision is slowly losing channels to digital, so eventually you will need a box/digital tuner with them anyway. Disclaimer: I am a Fios Installer!

  4. The whole thing is a liberal abomination. I'm not particularly concerned with the security/threat aspect- it is the fact that we are going to extend constitutional rights to terrorists- non citizen terrorsists at that!If they appear for a Federal trial shouldn't due process have been followed? Mirandized, lawyered up, speedy trial etc? The discovery and release of classified information and sources could be devastating to our security. If we are not going to extend these rights then why bother doing this at all? A military tribunal would be just fine. Are our soldiers going to have to start cuffing and mirandizing these scum suckers on the battlefield? It's sick.

  5. Ok so my second question kinda got answered but not really. There are career departments that run 3000 to 4000 calls a year that update command cars less then the volunteer service. But even though the volunteer service does 1000 calls a year and most milege is put on for non department driving its a justified cost put off to the tax payer to replace a command car!

My first question is still out there! No one can justify this car or any car going to a personal job on the tax payer buck?

    Next question

How many volunteer departments in Westchester have more then 1 Chief with a department car for personal use?

FYI due to the current economy people are losing jobs every day and the unemployment numbers are at there highest yet someone can use these cars to travel to work? Its not just the one I saw its all over in every city, town and village. Eliminating the uses can save dollars and help save jobs! I'm not saying eliminate the command car but don't drive it 20 miles away for your personal job!

So your suggestion would be to park the vehicle at the Fire station for the 8 or so hours that the Chief is at work? I speak for my own Department but we run a tight ship financially- we have one of the lowest budgets in Westchester- we don't pay salary, benefits and retirements to our members so that fuel usage to me is a cost of doing business- as long as it is not excessive distances travelled - i'm fine with it ( and I'm a taxpayer in the same town I volunteer- so it's MY tax money too)

  6. Just go to a meeting and ask the question or file a FOIL request or better yet ask someone from that Department. With new vehicles and what they cost, the days of installing lights, siren and radios in someones personal vehicle are pretty much gone. There is nothing to be afraid of- this is public information. During my days as a volunteer Chief I stopped and provided assistance at many an accident scene on my way to work.

  7. Do you guys really think giving these criminals ( yes they are humans too) drivers licenses is going to drive down insurance rates? Help us (citizens) in any way? This is absurd- now we have to pay for an outlandishly expensive multi- tier license system because we are voiding our current licenses by giving them to illegals- This is a Federal Immigration law issue and a national security issue- that's it! Forget about all of the sob stories- it's certainly not the fault of the United States that Mexico is a corrupt politcal and economic disaster.

  8. Happy to hear things are moving forward a lot of people are watching this and you have tons of support. It's a shame the race issue has to be brought into this- in my opinion the Fire Service is so not about color- you go to work every day to help people- color doesn't ever matter when the alarm goes off, it shouldn't ever matter before it goes off. This political crap has to stop. I've admired and respected you as a firefighter for a very long time and am 100% behind you.

    ps,

I think you're the only one on your block who doesn't have FIOS yet! ;)

(maybe we can wire up the wagon?)

  9. It's obvious there are problems with the system. But even with these problems ours is the best system in the world, mostly because the government doesn't administer it. We definitely need a safety net for those in special circumstances including children. Of course being a legal citizen of this country should certainly count for something when receiving healthcare ,IMOP.

But look at Michael Moore- he looks about 100lbs overweight- why should I pay for someone who abuses themselves over the course of their lifetime? These are the issues we must face

  10. I do FIOS installs and these are typical issues that we encounter on most jobs. Most of us want to make you happy and will do what it takes. We are pretty flexible with the BBU- the power strip that uses the outlet can be located a good distance from the BBU itself for further flexibility. Also consider that the router can utilize existing coax ( as long as its in decent shape). So where ever good coax is present, the router can be used at that location. My house is all plaster and my router is in the basement- I get good signal all over the house. Thanks for flying FIOS
