  1. This question has been posted before, but it seems like people aren't too quick to post their salaries.

I know an EMT-B in Westchester who makes $12/hr.

I found FDNY EMS salaries on their website:

    Starting EMT-B salary: $27,295

    Starting medic salary: $37,346

The salary seems to increase a bit each year of employment.

  2. I think those suicide phones are too hard to find. I spotted them right before the toll plazas and at the entrance of the bridge on the Rockland side. The signs just say "suicide hotline phone ahead" but don't give specific information. If someone is so distressed to jump, they will certainly have difficulty finding these phones, if they choose to do so at all.

  3. 4.Blue light. a. One blue light may be affixed to any motor vehicle

owned by a volunteer member of a fire department or on a motor vehicle

owned by a member of such person's family residing in the same household

or by a business enterprise in which such person has a proprietary

interest or by which he or she is employed, provided such volunteer

firefighter has been authorized in writing to so affix a blue light by

the chief of the fire department or company of which he or she is a

member, which authorization shall be subject to revocation at any time

by the chief who issued the same or his or her successor in office. Such

blue light may be displayed exclusively by such volunteer firefighter on

such a vehicle only when engaged in an emergency operation. The use of

blue and red light combinations shall be prohibited on all fire

vehicles. The use of blue lights on fire vehicles shall be prohibited

and the use of blue lights on vehicles shall be restricted for use only

by a volunteer firefighter except as otherwise provided for in

    subparagraph b of this paragraph.

    b. In addition to the red and white lights authorized to be displayed

pursuant to paragraph two of this subdivision, one or more blue lights

or combination blue and red lights or combination blue, red and white

lights may be affixed to a police vehicle, provided that such blue light

or lights shall be displayed on a police vehicle for rear projection

only. In the event that the trunk or rear gate of a police vehicle

obstructs or diminishes the visibility of other emergency lighting on

such vehicle, a blue light may be affixed to and displayed from the

trunk, rear gate or interior of such vehicle. Such lights may be

displayed on a police vehicle when such vehicle is engaged in an

emergency operation. Nothing contained in this subparagraph shall be

deemed to authorize the use of blue lights on police vehicles unless

such vehicles also display one or more red or combination red and white

lights as otherwise authorized in this subdivision.

Based on this, only a volunteer fire fighter's POV and the back of a police vehicle may display blue lights. So yes, it would be illegal for an ambulance to display a blue light.

  4. I find it interesting that TransCare is not supposed to bill residents of Wappingers; that the taxes pay for it. I have always been told that is called MediCare fraud. The rule being: if you bill one person, you bill them all, and you bill them the same way. Soft/hard, just be consistent.

    Anyone know more on this?

I imagine that you are not charged if the ambulance repsonds to anywhere in Wappingers, reguardless of where you live.

  5. To answer my own question:

(08/31/07) ARDSLEY - A suspected kidnapping scheme that started in New York City and ended in Ardsley was foiled by a quick-thinking pizzeria owner Thursday night.

According to police, a 23-year-old man was forced at gunpoint into a car in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan by men he knew. Police say the victim apparently owed the men money. Investigators say the suspects threatened the victim as they were driving.

Gerry Romano, the owner of Mina's Pizzeria, says something wasn’t right about the four men as they came into his store. Romano says one of the men acted nervous, stared at him from across the counter and desperately asked if he could use the phone. Romano says one of the suspects tried to brush off the pleas of the victim.

When the four men tried to leave, Romano followed them outside and told them to stay put until police arrived. The three alleged kidnappers then fled on foot. Ardsley police combed the streets with K-9 units. They say Jared Barton, of Pleasantville, surrendered.

Police in neighboring Greenburgh picked up another suspect, Christopher Collard, of Armonk. Police say they also recovered a gun. Police are searching for the third individual.
