NYS law defines an emergency vehicle as:
Every ambulance, police vehicle or bicycle, correction vehicle, fire vehicle, civil defense emergency vehicle, emergency ambulance service vehicle, blood delivery vehicle, county emergency medical services vehicle, environmental emergency response vehicle, sanitation patrol vehicle, hazardous materials emergency vehicle and ordnance disposal vehicle of the armed forces of the United States.Perhaps it qualifies under emergency ambulance service vehicle provided the lights are only used when responding to an EMS run?

Here we are in an era where hospitals are going paperless and networking, computers are making their way into the field, and patients are even carrying their entire medical profile on their key chain but here we are still writing out carbon copy PCR's. We need to get into scannable documentation or even better laptop based documentation. Want to know how many of your pt's diagnosed w/chest pain get aspirin, push a few buttons and you can find out down to the provider. The technology is out there. Its been proven to be effective in all fields and is even heading to the battlefield in the next couple of years.I believe that agencies can implement their own electronic PCRs. I don't know exactly how that works out but Empress does it in Yonkers. I have also seen that Transcare has their own custom paper PRC.

How are they dispatched to an EMS call?
-
DOH doesn't care if you have blue lights on the truckAgreed, not the DOH's policy to enforce. Emergency vehicle lights fall under the vehicle and traffic code, which would be enforced by the police. I can't really see a police officer writing a citation to their local EMS agency.

The only drug I'd like to see added to BLS is Albuterol neb w/o med control. You can administer albuterol without medical control as long as the patient does not have history of Angina, Myocardial Infarction, Arrhythmia or Congestive Heart Failure.

Am I missing something?

There are a lot of complaints on this forum about the scope of practice of NY EMTs, but I am recently discovering that NY is not totally behind. In Delaware they do not carry albuterol, aspirin or epi pens. Working as an EMT in DE has made me appreciate NY's protocols.

EMS involves much more than blood and guts. For just one example, A FF could be called on to help someone with a seizure. Even if the skills never get used, its always good to know.

wow! just wow.

Exactly. No one is going to write you a ticket for not wearing your vest. If wearing the vest will put you in harm's way, take it off. You do not need an exemption to practice common sense.

I agree, that this doesn't seem too secure, but this should only be used on a gate, not the door of your home. Furthermore, I imagine most burglars don't have portable radios sitting around.

I can also vouch for Sunny Side. The owner is a volunteer FF and EMT.

I'm pretty sure if the frame is black or yellow, they are just a recommendation.

We've come a long way.

Was that a transport unit?

The relies to this thread are really disturbing to me. For those in EMS, I hope this is not how EDPs are treated on your ambulance. Lets have some compassion as emergency responders, obviously this guy has some problems, but it doesn't appear that he needs to be locked up.

Are hospitals using the trunked system yet?

Also for textbooks check out bookfinder.com they compare prices from a bunch of online sites. I saved a lot of money through them.

Get your facts straight kid. He became a Muslim when he lived in Indonesia with his mother. His father was never a part of his life, not really that shocking either. You should take your anti-American idea's to Canada, preferably Quebec. You are correct, he did live in Indonesia for a time and I have deleted my incorrect post. In reguard to your comment that he became a Muslim, he is and always has been a christian.

Even if he was a Muslim, I know I would not have a problem with that. A close friend of mine practices Islam and he is one of the nicest guys I know. Muslims does not = terrorist or someone who hates this country.

Why does the car say "keep back 200 feet" in the back? That seems a little unnecessary as there is no hose being stretched from it, and there are no 200 foot long backboards. Its a nice vehicle but I think its getting a little carried away to be quite honest!I'm guessing they don't want people to tailgate because they could make sudden stops, etc.

We had a standing rule in my old VAC ... if you were not an EMT, you were not allowed to wear attire with the VAC insignia in public unless you were on duty with the duty crew. The premise behind this was if a non-EMT was walking around Price Chopper in his NWVAC shirt and someone needed assistance, they would be placed in a bad position.I don't think that is really fair. All members of my VAC (and most VACs) are trained in CPR and First Aid. First aid is basically all an EMT can do before an ambulance arrives with supplies and transportation. Before I became an EMT, I provided first aid to one or two people while waiting for an ambulance to arrive and I would think most would do the same.

No hand over heart during National Anthem, Pledge Of Allegiance, or God Bless America! He does put his hand over his heart during the national anthem: http://my.barackobama.com/page/invite/patriot
Took the American Flag off of his Campaign jet! Whats next if he gets elected, changing the flag all together! The American flag is displayed on Obama's plane in the same manor as McCain's: http://my.barackobama.com/page/invite/plane
You have figured it out! Obama is a Muslim terrorist, sent to influtrate the white house and turn over the country to the terrorists!
I can respect someone disagreeing with Obama's policies, but its ridiculous to spread these rumors that he isn't patriotic or is some sort of fanatical terrorist.

This is actually a great idea. Has anyone figured out what the benefit of a paid subscription is yet? I think having the IA is a great Paid perk. You get paid for giving access and they are gonna give it away to someone else. I think we all know that this is going no where fast and for some of us, we just glance quick at the AI before going into the forums. i know you want to run the sting operation but really it is not gonna stop these guys. (or girls) If nothing else you can copyright the paid info since you have to pay a fee to see it then hit them with copyright infringement and that might pay for the site, which is great.Sending a message of an incident's description and location is not a copyright violation, (regardless of weather it is available for free or a fee), provided the page isn't copied word for word from the IA.

I understand that the next closest fueling station is in DC.
-
I agree that this ridiculous.
The paging companies are not violating any copyright laws or ethics. Would it be wrong of a radio station broadcast a weather forecast they read from weather.com? If you write a book and use some information from Wikipedia, is it wrong to charge to buy the book if the information is supposed to be free on Wikipedia?
The people using these paging services should have done their research and found this site. Sucks for them that they are getting ripped off. If you don't like others using your IA for profit, don't post it here. Welcome to the internet.
