Washington H&L Co. 2 (TL-42) 'The Truck', Ossining F.D.

1890 Horse Drawn Ladder

1918 Republic (Purchased from Kahn Bros. of Yonkers. This truck was a second-hand, three-ton dump truck which was converted for hook and ladder duty. It became the first motorized equipment to serve the company; this rig remained in service for ten years.

It's open to the public and our neighbors of the fire service. The residents of Ossining own this equipment. This is part of the comrade we have with our brothers/sisters in the fire service. Here's a great opportunity to see what the OFD recently purchased. Perhaps another department will see something they like or dislike, who knows. Also take in financially what the equipment cost, etc. etc.... On a personal note when I attend Parades or Inspections throughout the year I like to see what other equipment dept's have on their apparatus and how its setup and operational....

Here's a scenario: 1. My Department allows Personal Vehicles to the scene. 2. I'm a driver of an (XX) engine company. Here goes...Dispatch comes across my pager 46.26, I respond to firehouse as a driver. The engine is responding before I make it to the station. If they respond on 46.26 I can redirect and go to the scene. But if they go right to Trunk system to respond where am I going now (still to the station), perhaps I could have been 1 of the first at the scene if redirected, once the engine responded.

Don't get me wrong the Trunking system works well for some departments especially that only have 1 Station where everyone must go to the firehouse to respond.

Unfortunately the decisions are made by the politicians. That's how this country has been setup, their the "voice of the people" they represent us. If we keep them in office every term they believe their doing a fine job. Our membership needs to stick together and put pressure on these representatives. Obviously the system isn't looking out for us and other groups (big business, illegals, etc.) are getting taking advantage. My question to anyone is what are you doing about it. How many attend FASNY Legislative Conferences in Albany or even closer Montrose when Local officials talk about the scorecards for the year. It's the same 75 people attending these conferences year in year out. To vent here on Bravo doesn't get your message to the gov't officials. Do something about. Waiting around for it to happen isn't working for us.

Getting back to the original topic......fortunately I come from a large department but at times we also could get tapped out or thin on man power for Mutual Aid response. Example if neighboring town at first requesting 1 Ladder to scene, plus 1 engine to standby, generally (100% of the time) we can handle this no problem. But then later perhaps the IC might call for an additional FAST from our town to the scene (our percentage will drop to about 90% for response still good just not 100%). With the help of Battalion Coordinators throughout Westchester, IC's need to determine ahead of time what mutual resources are available. This should include Chief's talking to Chief's of other departments knowing how there membership is doing year in and year out. Where could Chiefs get together???? oh perhaps parades and inspections, could be a good way to network..(uh-oh I said the P-word).. Tradition of calling your neighboring town is not the right/only answer. Perhaps skipping a community (yes someone's feelings might get hurt) or calling multiple agencies for response could be a better solution. that's enough for now......

Bad Boys II

The picture I see shows two seperate outriggers on each side of the apparatus. How is that better than just one? My concern is that you need 2 separate openings between cars to place the outriggers. I'm not familiar with E-One towers do the outriggers have to be out on both sides or is there a shortjacking option?

before we say who is right or wrong. Why did they end up using the tool at the scene if it wasnt needed. There could be more info to this article that happened on the scene.
