  1. I AGREE WITH ALL THE ABOVE STATMENTS AND IT IS VERY HARD NOT TO ATTEND A LOCAL WATERING HOLE WHEN THE END OF THE PARADE IS RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET.. I JUST GET A KICK OUT OF THE GUYS THAT ATTEND A PARADE AT 1 IN THE AFTERNOON AND GO UOT AT 11 OR 12 AT NIGHT STILL WEARING THE UNIFORM B/C THEY DONT HAVE TO PAY FOR COVER AT THE BARS OR THEY THINK ITS COOL. I THINK THIS IS ALITTLE REDICULIOUS.

IF YOUR GOING TO ABUSE THE PRIVLAGE AND HONOR OF BEING A FIRE FIGHTER, THEN IM SORRY ILL JUST STAY HOME. ITS VERY DISGRACFUL WHEN YOU SEE A LOCAL FIRE DEPT MEMBER AT A WHITEPLAINS BAR BEING CARRIED OUT BY HIS FRIENDS. I FEEL VERY ASHAMED TO BE ASSOSIATED WITH THIS TYPE OF PEOPLE. HOPEFULLY PEOPLE THINK WITH THIER BRIAN NOT THIER BEER GUT.

  2. I agree training is an on going process. building constrcuation changes, car fire operations change with new car technologies coming out. Also basics must not be forgotten. Dont forget where you came from. Training and experience are a good combination. Also, just because you have fire fighter one doesnt mean it stops there. I have met numerous probies that are all about ff1 and then running into a building. YEs they are young and egar to learn and its up to us seasoned guys to guide them the right way. Traing should be onward and upward, at a ongoing basis

  4. I think there should be more requirments than just FF 1... In the department in the town that i reside in.. there are multiple requiremtns for interior status. One is an annual physical. Two is FF1, the third is mask confidence, and the final is fire fighter survival.. all these elements give a person the common knowledge of fire fighting. Although they should continue in house training. Also in this department, new interior fire fighters are only allowd to go in with volunteer officers, ar a paid guy. This is to break them in a little so they dont become over whelmed. Also it gives us a chance to rate on how good they perform in a real life situation. as appose to the county training center.

  5. CPAT.. Currently im training for it. I think that is the best measure of firefighting endurance and activities. I can name people upon people who take upon the task of firefighter, who wouldnt even get half way done with the test. I think we need to take it upon ourselves to stay fit and get fit. its a good idea for your departments to help thier members in the payments. I juts think that relying on the county to do sothing sems a bit stretched out. Its our lives at stake, and we need to make sure we are fit to save our own or others.

  6. In Hartsdale, Either the first due engine hangs back and allows room for the truck to pass by the engine to get a good position on the corner or the building, Or the engine leaves enough room when it pulls up, that the truck can pull in right behind it and still have an optimum position. Also it all depends on nature or call, Positioning of traffic and overhead hazards.

  7. Yeah,

I was asking around about pruchasing a quint as a back up rig for an engine and ladder. After all my investigating i gave up. the reasons were valid. One reason was that we have one on a second alarm. And two a quint is too big for station 1 and also the tower is too big for station 1. we are pretty resticted to what we can do. A tiller you say?? hmm interesting that would me tl-15 or tiller 15.. wr it would be...would have to be staffed by 2 people.. food for thought... in reality....i dont think there is a chance.... vote yes.. spread the word

  8. Actually brian, if you think a dog day was bad, They are actually looking to open up a dog park som where in greenburgh. Which will also be a waste. I mean yes dogs do need to run around but thats why there is ridge road and web field park and for god sakes there are streets to wlak your dogs on.

Station 1 is falling apart. Yes we got a new roof a few years back. The basic layout is that they will expand the bay door wider. there is no way that they can make it taller. Also if there is anyway that the tl goes dow there, then they will have to bild a seperate bay next to or behind the station. The problem is that the only way to expand the station is back. The hfd property line goes about 6 feet or so towards the diner. And they can not expand the south bay b/c it is attached to a load bearing wall. The engines barely fit in there. Did you know that when the rig backs up, the guys have to get out of the truck otherwise the thing will bottoms out.

Station 2 is no better, it is out dated. Has anyone been in the dispatch room latley. it so needs to be updated. Also with the renovation of station 1, they will expand the bunkroom supstairs, this allowing more manpower to spend the night, but also it will kick the volunteers out of station 1. We have always had a volunteer room up there, ever since the deprtament started. We would have to relocate everything to station 2. But where? ther is no room up there for us. Also at station 2, sleeping qauters are tight. The comissioners room is small. Something need to be done. Im voting yes.

  9. sorry no offense to gfd538, I just said the word friction b/c it sounded good at the time, but you definitley put it better...

pb.. the amount of volunteers varies from all volunteer departments.. i meant was that for the southern departments, it would be a 100% plus change in the volunter response. And yes something would have to be changed about responding....

  10. No i can see whats CAM502 is saying. B/c the reltionships between the piad and volleys are different in all three departments. In Harstdale it couldnt be better. Fairview, im not to sure about. but i think in greenville there is some friction. And how would the merge not effectr the relationships, it would in a way, b/c now you will be getting triple the amount of volleys responding to a scene. Which im not saying isnt a good thing, But how would those people that arenot big fans of volleys feel.?

  11. I agree with fire dawg and remember... In hartsdale We are attempting to swithc over to a differenty helmet policy. The way things were was that we would all have yellow helmets except for the officers. Each helmet had and interior firefighter sticker if you were interior. The things was you had to look twice at the helmet to see if the guy could back you up on a line or not. Now what we switched to, unofficially, is black helmets for all that interio, and yellow for exterior. Our volunteer capatins have blue helmets with white shields, and our lieutenants have black hlemets with white shields. We are also trying to move to change the captains helmets to black with the white shields.

Back in the day the lieutenants had red the captains had blue and the Asst. chief had blue also. This was b/c they wanted to differenciate between a paid and volunteer Assistant chief and deputy chief, and a paid captain and a volunteer captain. These days you never know who wears what and how they choose it, but we all have our different weays of doing things, and if we dont all unify to organize to get one system down, then atleast we should be familiar with the other systems around us..
