  1. . Not 100% sure... You might want to validate the claim yourself... From the horses mouth Stay safe-
  2. SETH, well im glad you pointed out 3 things that are truth... thus proving that you are aware that the other info that you posted or allowed to be posted is false.... awsome.. to gain further information I think you should call over there. Im sure they would love to hear from an ex-employee. stay safe..test your alarm systems and smoke detectors..... kg-
  3. Seth... Thought you only allowed true statements on this website... this entire thread is incorrect, none of the information is accurate. I think discontinuing would be wise.. thank you... KG-
  4. You find a place to stay yet?
  5. You coming back with the family?
  6. The Fire service has changed.... It use to be asses and elbows.. stay low and let it blow.... now its just flip flops and laptops...
  7. I AGREE WITH ALL THE ABOVE STATMENTS AND IT IS VERY HARD NOT TO ATTEND A LOCAL WATERING HOLE WHEN THE END OF THE PARADE IS RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET.. I JUST GET A KICK OUT OF THE GUYS THAT ATTEND A PARADE AT 1 IN THE AFTERNOON AND GO UOT AT 11 OR 12 AT NIGHT STILL WEARING THE UNIFORM B/C THEY DONT HAVE TO PAY FOR COVER AT THE BARS OR THEY THINK ITS COOL. I THINK THIS IS ALITTLE REDICULIOUS. IF YOUR GOING TO ABUSE THE PRIVLAGE AND HONOR OF BEING A FIRE FIGHTER, THEN IM SORRY ILL JUST STAY HOME. ITS VERY DISGRACFUL WHEN YOU SEE A LOCAL FIRE DEPT MEMBER AT A WHITEPLAINS BAR BEING CARRIED OUT BY HIS FRIENDS. I FEEL VERY ASHAMED TO BE ASSOSIATED WITH THIS TYPE OF PEOPLE. HOPEFULLY PEOPLE THINK WITH THIER BRIAN NOT THIER BEER GUT.
  8. I agree training is an on going process. building constrcuation changes, car fire operations change with new car technologies coming out. Also basics must not be forgotten. Dont forget where you came from. Training and experience are a good combination. Also, just because you have fire fighter one doesnt mean it stops there. I have met numerous probies that are all about ff1 and then running into a building. YEs they are young and egar to learn and its up to us seasoned guys to guide them the right way. Traing should be onward and upward, at a ongoing basis
  9. CONGRATS!!!! I GUESS IT WAS ABOUT TIME.. GOODLUCK..
  10. Right i know it is done in the FF 1 class.. im just saying anaually as a refesher, we do osha, survival, mask confidance, and a physical. this is to stay interior.
  11. I think there should be more requirments than just FF 1... In the department in the town that i reside in.. there are multiple requiremtns for interior status. One is an annual physical. Two is FF1, the third is mask confidence, and the final is fire fighter survival.. all these elements give a person the common knowledge of fire fighting. Although they should continue in house training. Also in this department, new interior fire fighters are only allowd to go in with volunteer officers, ar a paid guy. This is to break them in a little so they dont become over whelmed. Also it gives us a chance to rate on how good they perform in a real life situation. as appose to the county training center.
  12. CPAT.. Currently im training for it. I think that is the best measure of firefighting endurance and activities. I can name people upon people who take upon the task of firefighter, who wouldnt even get half way done with the test. I think we need to take it upon ourselves to stay fit and get fit. its a good idea for your departments to help thier members in the payments. I juts think that relying on the county to do sothing sems a bit stretched out. Its our lives at stake, and we need to make sure we are fit to save our own or others.
  13. In Hartsdale, Either the first due engine hangs back and allows room for the truck to pass by the engine to get a good position on the corner or the building, Or the engine leaves enough room when it pulls up, that the truck can pull in right behind it and still have an optimum position. Also it all depends on nature or call, Positioning of traffic and overhead hazards.
  14. In Hartsdale.... We call station one... "the House of Pain" Although im trying to get the slogan fro 170 to officially be "the central avenue express"
  15. Yeah, i hear that smae transmition down in Hartsdale. Sounds like a jamacian guy asking for directions and pick ups... Wierd.. i hope it stops, It cuts into FD activity.
  16. I have used anti fog wipes, and good stuff like that, they dont seem to work, Honestly i just deal with it, its a part of fire fighting. Spiiting might work. ill have to let you know thanx for the tip.
  17. IN Hartsdale we have two tags. One blue one white. the blue one stays on the rig, or if you meet the rigs at the scene in the deputys car. The white ones we use for mutual aide. The blue stay on the rig responding out of district, and the white go to the I.C. at the scene we are responding to.
  18. I agree with fire dawg and remember... In hartsdale We are attempting to swithc over to a differenty helmet policy. The way things were was that we would all have yellow helmets except for the officers. Each helmet had and interior firefighter sticker if you were interior. The things was you had to look twice at the helmet to see if the guy could back you up on a line or not. Now what we switched to, unofficially, is black helmets for all that interio, and yellow for exterior. Our volunteer capatins have blue helmets with white shields, and our lieutenants have black hlemets with white shields. We are also trying to move to change the captains helmets to black with the white shields. Back in the day the lieutenants had red the captains had blue and the Asst. chief had blue also. This was b/c they wanted to differenciate between a paid and volunteer Assistant chief and deputy chief, and a paid captain and a volunteer captain. These days you never know who wears what and how they choose it, but we all have our different weays of doing things, and if we dont all unify to organize to get one system down, then atleast we should be familiar with the other systems around us..
  19. Actually.. GFD was dispatched to a mva south of 300 south central involving gpd, then 60 made a correction and dispatched hartsdale for a mva in front of 90 south central. 170 and 2172 was operating, although GFD did show up they turned around right away. Initially 150 was suppose to standby 1 block south of the incident. thats what 60 said. I thnk they miss understood and went to the mva instead of the stabbing. No offense to anyone, but that is how it sounded and looked to me. greenville was covering all calls south of the mva in hartsdale while central was shut down. 1 women was extricated from a bmw in the grass infront of barnes and nobles. she was complaining of sevear pain to her left leg. Her side airbag deployed.. not the front... the GPD vehicle's fornt air bag deployed.
  20. Also a 1982 .. ford cherry picker know as the line truck also known as the alarm truck It is the "pride of the fleet"
  21. Hartsdale's policy is respond to a relocation is no lights or sirens, but as the rig is alled to the scene or another call.. we respnd code 3
  22. Hartsdale is split, paid and volunteer. All of our volunteer memebers run with their gear in thier perosnal vehicles, unless they are at the fire house or in a depatment car, then it is a given that thier gear is on the rig.
  23. I am a trucky, i would love to say the truck is to roll first. But sorry guys i would have to agree with most of you that the engine goes. Yeha truck is important for search and stuff, but just b/c your on the engine doesnt mean you cant search as you go. Remember the idea is to put the wet stuff on the red stuff..
  24. I think it might be different in each department.. b/c down in greenville i think thier bylaws state that they can only have 2% live outside of the district. In hartsdale it doesn't matter where you live, as long as the chief ok's your residence.
