I believe Pace University is currently conducting a study on regionalizing several career/combination departments in Southern Westchester. I think it makes sense to combine your resources with other departments this way they can pick up where you lack and vice versa. Another benefit is that it would cut down on the duplication of services & equipment. For example it would cut back on two departments that border each other from buying the same equipment and apparatus (ex: 2 identical pieces of apparatus stationed only a few miles apart when they could save money by utilizing their neighbors resources.). Overall, I think it would save money while increasing the level of fire protection being provided for your tax payers.

I went up and applied on Friday. As of around 1PM on Friday they had 600 people signed up. I go to school right down the road and my academic advisor is the retired chief of NHFD. As stated before, there is a big push to hire minorities in New Haven. In fact the results of the last officers exam were thrown out because there were no minorities in the op of the list. A group of guys who took the test sued the city to have the test reinstated and lost.

hey fire rescue question 31 the addres was 9 pease rd..... allthe answers had 29 in front of them , i felt uneasy about that question, and i didnt care for the desirable questions, they really felt like it is a matter of opinion, not an actual factual answer.I noticed that too. Actually, one guy in my room raised his hand to ask the proctor about it so he ended up not being able to finish in the 10 minutes. I'm sure there will be plenty of people complaining about that especially if they don't get the grade they were expecting.

There are 6 Haz-Mat Squads in Southern Westchester comprised of 9 career fire departments.
Squad 1 - Yonkers
Squad 2 - New Rochelle
Squad 3 - Mount Vernon
Squad 4 - White Plains
Squad 5 -Eastchester/Scarsdale
Squad 6 - Fairview/Greenville/Hartsdale
Each Sqaud runs with a donated mini Bee-Line bus and an 18' trailer. I believe all members are trained to the Haz-Mat Technician level.

Todya's (1/14/07) Jounral News has an ad for the upcoming WPFD test which will be held on 6/2/07. Prefernce will be given to White Plains residents.

As Engine 26? Or it was just Engine 6 way back?It was Engine 6 (before county numbering existed). If I remember correctly, Church St had 1 Eng. & 1 Lad., Hugenot St. Had 1 Eng., Station 2 & 3 were 1 & 1, Station 4 had 1 Engine and the North Ave. house housed Engine 6.
When Station 1 was built, Chruch St & Hugenot St. house closed. Also for a while a 2nd engine ran out of Station 1 as Engine 6, nicknamed The Flying Squad because they responded on all box alarms in New Rochelle. They were also the first company in New Rochelle to have SCBA's. There was a picture of it a while back on the front page under "Classic New Rochelle Apparatus".
-
That used to be home to Engine Co. 6 back in the day. Also, I was told that the chuch across the street was a police station at one point.
As a side note, there also used to be firehouses on Chuch St. (now a church) and Union Ave. x Second St. (now a deli I believe). As well as one on Huganot St. where New Roc City is now.

If you want to ride on the back of a truck become a garbage man - otherwise stay in the cab where you belong.
-
I didn't see it mentioned here, but EFD TL-17 & EVAC were added to fill out the assignment shortly after the initial dispatch. I think I also heard E-31(Station 5) reloacted to headquarters along with NRFD E22 & L12.
-
Actually, in case you haven't noticed it seems that recently, anytime a career fireifghter even mentions anything related to volunteer firefighters there's an uproar. Just look at some of the responses so far (yours included).
I'm guessing you probably wouldn't have had a problem if my last post was blamming career firefighters for any tension.............
-
Maybe it's just me, but it seems that the majority of the tension comes from volunteers who fear that their volunteer department will be replaced with a career one. There are plenty of departments in Westchester that should have gone fully paid or at least combination years ago but due to the fear of change it hasn't happened.
-
Great job by all who worked on this.
Nice tribute to both FF Billy Malone of Fairview FD & FF Santo Giampapa of Greenville FD who passed away this year as well.
-
As a current student at the University of New Haven, I would definitely recommend it's Fire Science program. UNH offers concentrations in Fire/Arson Investigation, Fire Dept. Administration & Fire Protection Engineering.
As far as a major that will help with advancement, I would look into either Fire Administration, Public Administration or Business Administration.

If you don't get a full crew (Fire or EMS) off of the first dispatch you should call for Mutual Aid. Then the next question is what do you do when the mutual aid department has to retone, which unfortunately happens too often in Westchester - just listen to 46.26. I remember listening to a department get toned out 3 times for a cardiac arrest call. Then the M/A dept. had to be toned out at least twice. It was almost 20 minutes before anyone signed on.
