get an automotive relay of the proper rating - you can draw power straight off the battery or accessory point, and use a low current off an ignition circuit to switch the relay. be sure to put apprpriate size fuses on both the power draw and ingnition sense lines

Kudos for inventiveness and safety-mindedness!!!

I was watching TV the other night, one of those SWAT reality shows - Dallas, KC, or somewhere, and I could swear that there was a quick shot of a vehicle that at least looked an awful lot like this one in the credits - looked more or less like a large bank-style armored car, with a six or eight sided turret on the top, so I wonder if there have been additional units, or maybe just similar ones built.

Actually, I hated that format too.

a bunch can be cloned with a cable, maybe over the air, but other than the JT1000 and GP2000 series, i know of none that are keyboard. However, don't take that as 100% accurate.

I think I posted on this before in the past, but when i was in college in Tompkins Co. (Ithaca) - their's was pretty straight forward....
First digits: 1...? Town name in Alphabetical order
Second digit: Apparatus type
0 - engine
3 - ladder
4 - rescue / utility
5 - ambulance
6 - officers
7 - portables
( don't remember after 20 years what the others were)
third digit: sequential numbering (ok, not always so sequential...)
so 951 was Ithaca's ambulance (provided by Bang's); 202 was Cayuga Heights' 2nd engine, etc.

Wow EJS... You literally took the words out of my mouth with your "reckless abandon" comment. I used to say that exact same thing - it used to make me crazy...

I know that I moved outta town before a few of the other Hospitals inthe area shut down, but I know that this ED isnt that old - is this expansion needed due to the closures of United and St. Agnes?

About the only thing I can think of that MIGHT justify the L&S follow in is if there was a call holding that required the medic to immediately get back in the truck and go - with no other available coverage.
I spent many years in a system where I would often do the follow in drive, and dont think I ever had to do it L&S.

About a year ago I was talking with an Illinois SP trooper at an accident screen - his Lumina had a similar system - but the cameras/enclosures were much, much smaller than the ones in the photos here, and were actually mounted to the car via the same bolts as the light bar mounting brackets - 1 on each front corner of the lightbar (traffinc cameras), and a third on the right rear corner at 90 degrees (parking lot camera). Being smaller - they were significantly less noticable, and also blocked little, if any, of the lightbar output, particularly at the important intersection angles. On the other hand - it was obviously not "car-to-car portable".
-
the Federal lightbar on that Ardsley squad is the Streethawk, the boxy one you refer to is probably the TwinSonic (the same bar as on Squad 51).

See, now i think the open, plate steps detract from the look - i like either steps covered by the doors, or the flip steps, which i just think are too cool.

my truck might hit that, with a high enough cliff....

wow - thats way kool...
wish i has the green laying around

www.geocaching.com - in 1 sentence - a treasure hunt or hid-and-seek of sorts using handhelpd gps units. people hide a container of vaying sizes, and you try to find it based on the coordinates they post. there are more complicated versions too.

Thought about it for a while last night - think i took the 3 class in '86 at WP... Damn...

Wow - now I have to try to figure out what year I did my class there, damn...

When I was running EMS, I can remember plenty of times where we couldn't fill a 3 man shift to cover the town, but getting 5+ people for a parade, fire works, special event, etc. during the same time period somehow didn't seem to be a problem.
I also recall a (state?) parade in Port Chester about 20+ years ago, where 2 very tall sticks were erected in the parking lot at the end near the beer garden, and what was going on at the top didn't look like a particularly good idea. Now, if, by any chance, I'm wrong about that, then I hereby issue my apology now.

Here's a question - does anyone have dash cams (or similar) on apparatus, chief's cars, etc., other than like on a command post truck?
-
Whoops - quick correction to my earlier - the new diesel is a 6.5 not a 5.5 - which makes much more sense - doesn't it?
Oh, and if it matters, my source is with Medtec which is associated with Pierce - both owned by Oshkosh (as is Jerr-Dan wreckers, McNeilus concrete trucks, and a bunch of other interesting stuff, like BAI (Brescia Antincendi International), maker of Italian fire trucks. http://www.oshkoshtruckcorporation.com/

just spoke to a friend at one of the ambulance mfg. - the F 450 will stay - with a new 5.5 L diesel coming out - it meets emission standards
the e series will no longer have a diesel as the new one wont fit under the sheet metal
there is story of a GAS!!!???!!! E450 ambulance package in the works, he tells me
so, the e450 diesel ambulance is a thing of the past, with any available stock to be bought up in the next couple of days
