  1. The correct lettering is 74-B1. OVAC now has 74-A1 and A2 and B1. The A's are ALS busses and are staffed 24-7 with PAID crews of 2. EMT and Medic on A1 and B1 is the BLS bus is EMT x2. We also run a 24-7 ALS paramedic flycar that is contracted out to Croton and Briarcliff EMS and responds to all calls in those districts and mutual aid to Ossining as a medic as needed. We also house a Paramedic Supervisor who oversees the Operation as well as a Captain and two Lt.s none of whom are paid who keep the volunteers going. In former years OVAC was ALL Volunteer but now due to the economy has lost so many volunteers that it is impossible to staff an all volunteer Corps. Call volumes are pushing 3000 calls per year. It's not the OVAC many of you were associated with....but its still great!

the lettering is 7481, not 74B1!

  2. A few good points can come out of the pictures.

    1. Some would jump the gun looking at the damage to the car and the type of vehicle it collided with and start thinking medevac (although in that location ground is faster to WMC.) Nothing replaces a solid physical exam in conjunction with what the INTERIOR of the car looks like. The car exterior responded the way it was designed to crumple.

    2. Communication between Fire and EMS is imperative. While some don't like it..the main purpose of the FD is to mitigate risks to patients, others (traffic, etc) and to facilitate access to the patient(s) if needed. Its more of a glorified EMS assist, you must be a team..not one in front of the other. If there in no console..which most cars have huge ones today...the passenger side door is still an option. Here through communication they made a decision.

Look at ya lookin all serious with the mic in your face. Guess someone wasn't there today or I'd be reading a medevac IA...lol.

Hey Tommy, from what I understand someone did put the bird on standby...did you see 74-05.......guess who??? Although I don't think he called...

  3. The new Phelps ER is amazing. The first time I saw it, my jaw was dragging on the floor as I was getting the tour from a nurse. Everything is laid out nicely, plenty of space for patients, a nice EMS "lounge" and restock area. They really outdid themselves.

To add on to what Capt Nechis said, Soundshore has also done some recent work to the ER waiting areas. They now have a seperate waiting area for pediatrics off the main waiting room. The new holding beds are nice, 6 in total, but they aren't in view of the nurses station. Other than that, the only gripe I have about Soundshore is the lack of ambulance parking!

Also, White Plains has moved the EMS entrance back to where it used to be at the bottom of the ER parking lot, but inside the ER is still the same.

The new ER @ Phelps is nice, but they didn't thnk about ever having EMS stretchers get in the rooms with the patients...you can barely fit the hospital stretcher and the ems stretcher in the room together...forget about working a code in one of those rooms, you ill have to tell everyone to get out and have someone straddle the pt to do CPR...oh yeah and nice that they put the EMS writing area near the decon showers and away from everyone else...great idea..no place for restock of drugs, and you have to put the hospital dispostion code in to get in and it is in the worst place!

Don't get me started on WPHC, the old/new entrance sucks, security is never there as usual, the automatic doors work some of the time and nothing has changed about the waiting time once you actually get in to the er...

  4. If i understood correctly MKVAC recently became unhappy with their fords, most likely due to service

Just a heads up regarding the "service" end of the 4500 series, I work in Harrison and e have 2 of them and they are nothing but trouble...I can't even begin to tell you how much $$$$$$ has been wasted in service, repairs and overall nonsense fix its...be careful...next time ask those who have them....we will never get those types of ambulance again!
