Eight firefighters escaped injury after a section of a burning house in Waterbury collapsed and nearly fell on them.
Firefighters were called to 307 Bishop St. at 8:19 a.m. and when they arrived found heavy fire in the house, officials said.
The three-story house had been abandoned and was boarded up, Deputy Fire Chief Rick Hart said.
Neighbors reported seeing two teenage boys behind the house shortly before the fire began. Fire officials said the fire is considered suspicious.

Firefighters who answered the call in Waterbury Tuesday didn't battle a raging fire, but instead were overrun by fleas. The members of Engine 2 left the scene of an abandoned house they were investigating on Taylor Street when they began to itch terribly. While on the ride back to the station, they noticed fleas all over them.
"It was thousands of them," Fire Chief David Martin said.

Ladder 51's wetdown/YHFD Friendship Day is going to be Saturday June 10th from 5 to 11 pm - It is going to be at Yorktowns Headquarters (1916 Commerce St)

i used one in a fire and it was alright- nothing great, i didnt find it distracting but i think its useless - everyone SHOULD be more than capable of looking at the gauge on their shoulder
-
Yorktown New Ladder 51 is now in Westchester County . The old Ladder 51 will now have the county number Ladder 68

that would be nice however it is proably going to take a while before the rest of us hear what our personal status is. I like a few other people have said, also heard that they hired 6 who already had their cpat and will hire 12 more later on

I think its important that all members of a department have pagers - without one they will not know what is going on -- however i feel with Juniors who are not of age to respond to alarms they should not have pagers because it would only provoke those members into wanting to come to those calls - which they shouldnt be attending
