  1. I'm not too in tune with Westchester politicians as I use to be, but I thought the new Mayor (Delfino is gone, right?) was in some legal trouble? Has that been resolved, and he still in power?

And when does the city expect to see any tax revenue from all these developments they gave tax breaks to?

It's sad, because I finally thought that White Plains FD and PD were starting to head in the right direction....and now because the politicians didn't plan for the future and let power, greed, and corruption run the city, they are now scapegoating the PD and FD unions for the city's mistakes, who really don't make a liveable wage considering the cost of living.

Bradley has several charges pending against him. He needs to resign. Nice to see Dennis Power still has his head up Bradley's behind. Bradley was bad in the Assembly. Great selection, White Plains!

  2. I am reading this thinking what kind of state of mind someone has to be in to think this? Does this person actually know that unions and contracts exist because of thoughts like this, and they are actually stripping away all the years of progress and fighting for fair working conditions and wages?

Also, does this person realize the UFA and PBA members differ from the Teamsters and CSEA in the Town because they GIVE THEIR LIVES 24/7/365 to keep the town residents safe? And these same members can't even afford to live in the town even though they do get fairly compensated? AND, the arbitration panels are there because these members have no other recourse, as he mentioned, because they can't go on strike like other town employees can because then lives would be on the line in a serious way.....it's like beating someone with their hands tied behind their back to try and disband arbitration panels for those with no-strike clauses due to life safety issues.

This is not "needed reform", especially in this day and age where every government leader is trying to blame the unions for problems THEY created. All of a sudden, it's a problem. Isn't it THEIR role to plan for future and anticpated costs with different scenarios?

From the Town Of Greenburgh email list.....

    Seth,

You sound really suprised. This IS Paul Feiner that we're talking about. The majority of the fine voting citizens of Greenburgh keep electing him. Blame them.

  3. Astorino is trying to make himself look like the good guy, and his workforce like the bad guys (from a remote perspective)

Spano definetly had his faults, and I'm not saying he didn't and don't care for a discussion on that. Time will tell what Astorino does to emergency services in the County, which is my concern, not politics. I could really care less about the politics and trips or whatever....I want to see how he funds and supports emergency services in the long run.

Unfortunately, there are other things to worry about other than emergency services. There will never be a county-wide police force (like Suffolk and Nassau), or fire, or EMS.

And the "I could really care less about the politics and trips or whatever" is why we are in this situation. No offense intended here, Seth, but you don't live here anymore so you don't have to pay the county property taxes. As someone that does, the "politics," as you put it, do matter. However it's actually policy, not politics.

  4. He didn't cut his workforce. Many of Spano's staffers left with him or retired, and he didn't fill the positions. He's also counting the security detail into those numbers.

Although I agree this whole financial crisis has been decades in the making, the County's employee's shouldn't be blamed. Cut fat where needed, but don't place the burden on the workforce and make it seem like it's their fault, which he, in what I have seen, he's been trying to subtely do.

Also, if you look at the big picture...Spano did do a lot. He had his cons, but he had pros to....the fire training center is night and day between him and the O'Rourke administration.

Ok well, since Astorino, as you said, "didn't fill the positions," he cut his worforce. He could have filled the positions, but he didn't. Cutting by attrition is still cutting. What if he had made his staff bigger?

Also, "looking at the big picture" and saying "Spano did do a lot," is a bit, well, ludicrous. There is no reason why he needed to go to China on the taxpayer's dime. The liberals of this county kept putting this idiot back in office until, finally, Spano did himself in by signing the housing settlement.

Think about it by looking at the town-by-town map of the results. It was the housing settlement that did it.

  5. Not for nothing, but why are some people so quick to praise the job MLSS will do Poughkeepsie? By reading some of these posts, one would think that they have had the contract for years.

Now I don't live in Dutchess or have ever had any dealings with them, but mabye we should wait and see how they do with the contract. While it's nice to read that they seem to have a solid reputation, only time will tell how this contract will turn out for MLSS and the city.

  6. Sorry about that I was not yelling. I am new here and i did not know how to seperate my typing from the post. You are right and wrong, i think. I know that Larchmont has there own goverment, village of mamaroneck has there own and the town of Moamroneck has its own as well That is three goverments 2 villages and 1 town within the town of mamaroneck. Then you have the greenburghs. Then there is Pelham. You have Village of Pelham goverment village of pelham manor goverment then the town of pelham goverment . again 3 goverments 1 town I think the City of Rye has 1 and the Town of Rye has 1 then Port Chester and rye brook. All in Portchester.

The Town of Rye consists of the the Village of Port Chester, Village of Rye Brook, and the Rye Neck section of the Village of Mamaroneck. The City of Rye is not in Port Chester, nor is it part of the Town of Rye.

Also remember that there is no unincorporated area (area outside the villages) in the Towns of Rye and Pelham, while there is unincorporated area in Mamaroneck Town. In the unincorporated area, the Town is responsible for basic services, such as Police and DPW.

  7. I understand that people have and are losing support for President Obama. However, he is the President and is not being threatened with impeachment. One possible reason for impeachment is that the Presidents behavior is grossly incompatible with the proper function and purpose of the office. If this was true he would be up for impeachment...he must be doing some things right or be "compatible" for the job. People will always have a difference of opinion. It is what makes forums exciting. IF we all agreed, there would not be much reason for forums.

    What?

    Who said anything about impeachment?
