  1. Ive got 2 pagers, one on 33.96 and one on 46.26 along with a scanner, RS Pro-82. I too though am looking to upgrade my scanner. Ive been looking at the Uniden Bearcat BC245XLT. Anyone have other suggestions or comments?
  2. Bid for the new ladder was approved Tuesday night (12/7). Once i get the complete info, ill let you all know.
  3. Down here in Pelham, the paid guys take in all highway calls. Volunteers are not allowed to bring their POVs onto the highway. As you said though, if they are already on the highway and happen onto the scene, thats a different story. I cant think of anyone who would not stop to make sure things are ok if they happen onto a scene. If the volunteers are at the fire house, they CAN jump on the rigs and respond with the paid guys.
  4. Do all members of the YFD have keys to open the gate located at the entrance? Or is someone sent over when they start picking up the reserve apparatus. Its definitely a smart thing to hav elimited access, but what kind of plan is there when the rigs need to get out and put into service quickly?
  5. Around lunch time today, Yonkers dispatched Squad 11 (Squad 311), Engine 314, Ladder 70, AND Rescue 1 to an MVA on the bronx river parkway. If you ask me, it appears as though "Squad" is just a title. Especially if the unit is going to act as an Engine company all the time.
  6. As far as I understood, the specs were for a seagrave. Also, the height was a MUST and I was told that the only way to fit a new truck into the house was if it had the Low Profile cab (as mentioned earlier). As for length being an issue with a Sutphen mid mount, in my opinion, that could be worked around. Currently, E4 sits in front of L2 in one bay, and R45 sits in front of E5 in the second bay. That configuration was to allow room for the ambulance to fit into the firehouse when it was stationed there 24/7 (that didnt last too long). To deal with a new Ladder truck that is longer than our current one, we could reconfigure the placement of the apparatus. E4 could be placed in front of E5 in one bay, and R45 could be placed in front of the new L2 in the other bay. So, if you were to ask me, I would tell you to expect a new Seagrave ladder truck sometime soon (hopefully). But as for now, nothing is finalized and i have no say in any of the final decisions. If i find out more, i will let you all know.
  7. First: I forgot the water cut in between the park and shore road. Second: Did the City Island units respond, or were they confined to the island as is normal practice (am i right in saying that?)? Third: If you go back, see if you can determine exactly what that building is, or what it was used for. It might hold some significant historical value.
  8. How far into the woods was this fire? Could they have maybe set up the engines somewhere along Shore Road and gone in from there? That would have solved the issue of finding a hydrant to connect to, but dragging all that hose really would have sucked.
  9. E4 and L15 in downtown Manhattan. Also, the two City Island units. Im sure they have some dust on them too.
  10. Has the torcher finally succeeded? If so, then i guess the saying is true, 'Third time's the charm'
  11. Weren't they already the house that was specialized in those things? Are they changing the 'official' title of the unit to make it more clear? In my opinion it is a smart move, it should create less confusion (if there really is any to begin with). Are they still going to respond as first responders to EMS calls in their first due district, or will their first due district be reassigned to other units? I know you said they will act as an engine company unless otherwise directed, but i just want to be clear if the name change is just cosmetic or if it is a real valid change for the company.
  12. The year- 1975. The location- Kensico Dam Muster First Prize for Farthest Stream- Eagle Engine 6, Pelham FD (As stated on card behind photo, and from first hand sources within the department) Eagle 6 is producing the stream that appears to blend with the clouds at the top of the dam. (Please note: Im not trying to out-do anybody with this imformation, i just found it to be exciting. I do not wish to take away from the overall experience of the day. I would love to see one happen again some time soon. We all could use a day of gathering and story telling, along with a showing of various antiques and collectables. It would definitely be a great time for all.) http://community.webshots.com/photo/210084...210085057iFHZbd
  13. Anyone know what happened to this association? I recently aquired the Official Program from the Thirty-Third Annual Convention held in Mt Vernon on June 20-22, 1922. Its got a history of the MVFD up to that point along with some pictures of their apparatus. I'll try to post them, along with the history of that specific company, in the coming days. There is also a history of the Association itself that i will also post.
  14. You have a list of all the current members? Obviously Mt vernon no longer is, due to becoming a fully paid department. The program I have is in pretty good shape except for the cover which has some tape on it. I'll post some pictures of it later along with the history of the HVVFA as printed inside.
  15. I can get my hands on a photo showing another angle of all the trucks. From what i've heard, Pelham's antique could shoot a stream over the dam (that's what i heard, i have no idea how truthful it is so dont hold me to it). I'd love to see the Muster brought back. It would allow us younger generations to experience all the fun.
  16. The specs on the new ladder truck were approved around sept. 21. It was going out to bid during october. Its supposed to be a 100ft rear mount with a low-profile cab (otherwise it wont fit through the door). I believe it will also have 2 rear axles to help distribute the weight. Look for Seagrave to come back with a bid along with one or two others.
