I have seen the talk groups and know that the system is broken down into three zones: A- Fire operations with thirty-two (32) talk groups, B-Fore EMS operations and C-Fireground and battaion operationss. The system is a Smartzone not a Samrtnet system as was published where all of the frequencies are needed to operate throughout the county, not just North and South. Since the system is not fully operational many department are in the C-Zone which is the 453-458 county fireground plus the battalion operational UHF and fireground channels. This is the conventional non-trunked zone.

Driving through Rye my Signal Stalker got blasted with the South Zone control channel (476.2375MHz). Looks like the Port Chester tower is operational.

It sounds like testing of the system has started. Since last Wednesday I have heard activity on the system at different times both North and South Zones. One thing I heard, at various times, was a recording of a man reciting phrases, probably testing the audibility of the system.

Sometime the scanner displayed the TalkGroup ID (in open, or ID search mode), other times I manually advanced through the system freq's. to see if anything was happening. You can also take the scanner out of trunk mode and scan the freq's conventionally to monitor activity should it not come up in trunked mode.

Kind of embarassed to ask this but is this system UHF or VHF? Just need to make sure my scanner programming is right.
