Connecticut State Police Trooper Trainee

Entry Level Salary: $34,142.00 per year 

Academy Graduate: $42,810.00 per year 

Top Pay: $61,800.00 per year 

Job Description

The Division of State Police is responsible for the prevention and detection

of crime, the apprehension of criminals and the protection of lives and

property of the people of Connecticut. In many of the State's towns,

Troopers provide a full range of police services including responding to

breach of peace, vandalism, and similar citizen complaints and conducting

criminal investigations such as burglary, robbery, murder, and drug

enforcement activity. Committed to the concept of community policing,

Troopers may serve in a variety of roles, including Community Service

Officers, School Rescource Officers and Police Explorer Post Coordinators.

The Division of State Police is also charged with providing security for

Bradley International Airport and with the protection of the Governor.

Highway patrol and accident investigation constitute a major portion of the

State Police function. Troopers are responsible for patrolling almost 1,000

miles of limited access highways and more than 3,000 miles of secondary

roads.

We anticipate a Trooper Trainee selection process to begin in September

2004. All interested candidates can apply online during the announced

application period which should begin in July. Check the website at

Requirements

*Be at least 21 years of age by the expiration of the announced application

period; 

*Be a U.S. citizen by the date of appointment; 

*Be in general good health and have sufficient strength, stamina and agility

as required by the duties of the position; 

*Possess a high school diploma or GED by the completion of training; 

*Be free from felony and Class A and B misdemeanor convictions; 

*Have normal hearing, normal color vision and depth perception; 

Candidates must have binocular vision. Distance and near vision (with

lenses) must be at least 20/30 each eye; 

*Prior to academy graduation, obtain or retain a current, valid Connecticut

Motor Vehicle Operator's license and establish residence in Connecticut.
