JFK*EMS

4 posts in this topic

Just doing some browsing around on the web, and found this...

Pretty cool. I always knew PAPD had an ambulance at JFK, but I never knew anything about these "JFK Medical" flycars. Anyone got any further information? Is this staffed by Vinnies?

(I love airport operations and airplanes, so just curious)

(I also love the "This equipment pays your salary...take care of it" sticker inside the cab.)

I don't work at JFK, so I might not get everything right. There are 2 BLS ambulances on duty, staffed by armed Port Authority ESU officers. The medical center on the airport property is contracted out to St. Vincent CMC, they provide the doctors and nurses as well as two paramedics per shift who staff the flycar and help out in the medical center when not on jobs. If the airport units are tied up, 911 units from South Jamaica respond with a PAPD escort.

I did a bunch or rotations at Mary Imaculate Hospital. They always brought in patients from JFK in a PAPD ambulance with PAPD police officers and a medic from an other private agency. St Vincents did not have the medic contract at that time ..2001 02
